Her lyrical subject matter always championed the underdog, the downtrodden and the abused. The eleven beautifully crafted compositions adorning her debut album made her an overnight worldwide superstar, however like many other protest singers, she sold millions of records, tapes and compact discs to an adoring middle class and nothing changed. I often wonder what she thought of William Jefferson Clinton. Never reissued on vinyl, the Tracy Chapman debut album was digitally recorded in Hollwoood CA, mastered at Masterdisk NY - my British copy was pressed by Record Service in Germany.
