If you read Martin Aston's authoritative Facing The Other Way, you'll know of the many artists who either declined the opportunity to sing on Filigree & Shadow, or even allowed Ivo to cover their work. It is best to put those to the back of your mind, if this album, like me, is one of your favourites of all time.

4AD's own Robin Guthrie, Elizabeth Fraser, Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard all declined, however Simon Raymonde, the Rutkowksi sisters, Dominic Appleton, Alison Limerick, Richenel and Peter Ulrich all stepped up to record one of the most evocative covers albums ever.
