Laugh At Your Peril
Killing Joke - Killing Joke [SPINE515292 UK 2020 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC]
Originally released on Malicious Damage Records in October 1980.
When the sad news of Geordie Walker's death broke over the weekend, I thought about a Killing Joke megapost over on Digitalia in tribute. Before that happens (when time allows), I have decided to produce a whole new rip of the band's classic debut album for a substantial upgrade to my March 2021 rip.
I am regularly sceptical about modern vinyl pressings, however the British division of Spinefarm Records have actually done a great job with the fortieth anniversary mastering of the debut Killing Joke album, even if it was pressed at GZ Media. I ripped my original a few years back and it is not in great shape, so I was constantly on the lookout for a better copy ...I am pleased to say that this new black vinyl pressing sounds great.
The almost danceable Bloodsport is always my go to track and the whole album track clocks in at an impressive dynamic response level of between DR12-DR15. I've held the levels in moderation throughout so you can really crank this album up loud, and let Walker's guitar erupt from your speakers.
A1 Requiem
A2 Wardance
A3 Tomorrow's World
A4 Bloodsport
B1 The Wait
B2 Complications
B3 S.O.36

ReplyDeleteAye, the news about Geordie fair knocked the wind out of my sails. Another one gone.
ReplyDeleteMy excitement at seeing the KJ album cover art has been overtaken by sadness as to the reason. A ground-breaking album and a wonderful talent. Vale Geordie.
ReplyDeleteAgreed - another great, original artist from a crowded field of talented late 70s-early 80s guitarists, gone! Thankfully their music lives eternal in our respective ears for generations to come.
ReplyDeleteWhat? Geordie dead? This is a shock! I'm reading it here for the first time. FU"*#! One of my all-time favorite bands - I can't imagine without his guitar. It hurts....
ReplyDeleteFirst I've heard the news of his death. Sad indeed. Looking forward to hearing this great record in a new rip. Thank you! Also looking forward to the Digitalia post. Absolutely love that site. The Tuxedomoon post was unreal. Still haven't made my way through it all.
ReplyDeleteReally appreciate your sharing this one. To say the news was a shock is putting it gently.
ReplyDeleteCheers mate
ReplyDeleteThank you Blogmeister !
ReplyDeleteThis is why I'm going to miss this site.
ReplyDeleteSad to hear of Geordie passing. This sounds most excellent!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the rip/post.
U R Legend.
Saw them that year in Chicago and again in 2004. Had to cut their set short because Ferguson cut his hand. They invented bombast.
ReplyDeleteLast saw them live this March, still sounding great.
