Flashback Friday

Today for Flashback Friday, this week in 2016...

Iza was curled up beautifully on my lap.

And showed her paws.

We had a snowstorm, but the birdfeeders were filled.  The larger birds appreciated that.

The thistle seed feeders were appreciated by the finches too.

I dug a path to the edge of the deck.  The Mews loved that they could get to the edge to watch the birds at the feeders.

It melted fast.  Just 2 days and it was gone.  Warm spell came in.

Sometimes, Winter is like that.

Flashback Friday

Today we return to the thrilling days of this week in 2013!

The Cardinals were enjoying the rebuilt feeder.  I love the one in flight!  The double baffle really did (and still does) baffle the squirrels.  I saw one try again yesterday.

I had quite a large flock of them sometimes...  And these are just the males.  The females were in branches waiting to take their turn feeding.

The Mews all got along well at the time (sometimes it was "iffy" with Ayla and Iza, but the the bed was sort of neutral territory).   And of course Marley was between them.

Iza and Marley often went mousie-hunting together.

Iza loved rolling around in the leaf debris.  She would come in covered with stuff and I had to brush it off her (just by hand) so that I wouldn't find the bed covered with leaf-grit.

I had beds of Hyacinths then.  That was before the voles infested the yard and found them.  Now there are just individual survivors.  I need to get after the moles again.  The moles make the tunnels the voles use to search for roots to eat

And Ayla was enjoying "walking the fence"...

Thankful Thursday

We are Thankful for Birdie TV!  These pretty little fevvers are bright and busy.  We can only watch them through one window or if we walk out on the deck an sit quietly.  They are VERY observant an take off like a shot iffen they see us (or TBT an hes the one who feeds them)!

The feeders used ta be a bit further away, but TBT moved them closer for OUR viewing pleasure an HIS pictures.
Its fun watching them fly from one feeder ta the other.  They act like the seeds are different in each one.  Plus they fuss and fight about the perches, which is fun ta watch.
We think they like the higher perches because birds poop randomly, and who wants ta be the one below?

Thankful Thursday

AYLA:  Today I am thankful for Birdie TV.  I watch from the windersill a lot!

The Goldfinches are  nearly fuly-color.
I love watching them fly around.  TBT was surprised to catch 2 of them flying at the same time.  I like looking at the picture to unnerstand better how they fly.  I would love to do that.
There are 2 thistleseed feeders and they flit between then back and forth, up and down.  The movement is SO exciting!  That they keep changing perches baffles me.  Its all the same seeds.
I dont see all the same colors as TBT.  Well, he SAYS there are more, but sometimes he makes weerd jokes.  But I see these as bright spots.  Unike our black foodbowls he calls "red".
Like this black birdie. Well, if he loves them, fine..
They are really crowding around the feeders lately.  Why do black seeds make them turn bright?
But as long as they move around, I LOVE it.
Rest assured, they are all for watching.  We are mousie-hunters here .  Not that if one deds itself on the deck door we dont want to get out and examine it.  The "thump" on the glass gets us all to come look (even TBT).  And we do catch a couple of sparrows each year, but just if they are REALLY REALLY stoopid and stare at us from a low shrub branch.

I mean, we get birdy-food every day.  Not worth chasing.  But MOUSIES, we don't get those as often as we would like...  And TBT says we have too many in the yard and they eat flowers and his garden.  So we get rewarded for catching THEM!

Hunting

AYLA:  My hunting instincts are expressing themselfs more recently.  I recently found a REALLY GOOD PLACE to sit and watch for mousies.  Its a piece of wood and I can sit there not rustling the slightest of plant.  And talk about a Silent Launchpad for a pounce!  It is great.

It a board TBT put in under the birdie-feeder to make his stepladder level to fill the feeder safely.  Well, thats what it is to HIM.  To ME, its a pounce pad!

Its in the big daffodil bed.  And trust me, I know where every single mousie hole is in the bed.  This is the best spot.   Well, it is right under the birdie feeder and the mousies LOVE the spilled sunflower seeds.

On the other paw, when TBT calls me in for a meal, I don't sit around waiting for a mousie.   Food in the bowl is worth 2 mousies in the weeds...

Birdie TV Special Showing

The birdies having really been putting on a show (heh, heh, we originally typed "chow"; wishful thinking) at the feeders since the snow fell a few days ago.  So for all our friends who dont get the Birdie TV Channel, or who dont get the same one we do, enjoy...

Birdie TV Sunday

We have to love our Goldiefinches when the males all color up.  They are SO BRIGHT...
And yummy-looking, but we cant get them in the high hanging feeders.  And they dont land on the ground much like other birds.
So we just watch an admire them all goldie like that.
Dont land on our deck though Birdies!  We catch the stupid ones...

Birdie-Feeders In The Snowy

MARLEY:  The birdies are LOVING TBT putting seeds out fer them.  And we LOVE having LOTS of them get through the Winter.  This one doesnt show the birdies cuz the instant TBT opens the door even slightly ta get a picture, they all fly away.  It's too close... So just trust us that they are there and happily gorging on seeds while the ground is all covered with snow.
This is the thistle seed feeder fer the finches (gold and purple).  No birdies there right then.
But they arrived soon.  We can only watch them from one windowsill.  But it is a GREAT watching!
Here are some closeups from the flashy-camera.  TBT discovered they dint notice our one window being raised up slightly and slowly.
They are all goldfinches.  They arent colorful much, but the bands on the backs identify them.  Plus, they are eating thistle seeds and not many birds do.
Those are FILLED PERCHES, arent they?
They sure LOVE those thistle seeds.  TBT found a place to buy 50 lbs fer $65, so we have a whole Winter's supply.
No, this picture isnt crooked.  The wind is blowing THAT hard.  How birdies fly in strong winds is beyond us.  Actally, how birdies fly AT ALL is beyond us.
More birdies...
And more...
Some hop on the ground.  That really drives us crazy.  We want to get them.  But not in 2' of snow...
Oh yeah, please survive the Winter birdies and plump up all good.  We will meet a few of you in Spring...  MOL!
