Thankful Thursday

LORI:  I am suddenly thankful for the hammick.  It is usualy Marley's spot, bt he was on the waterbed, so I tried it out.

Soft, comfy.  I see why Marley loves it.

I'll only sit there when Marley is away, of course.  Its kinna really "his" place some other places are "mine".  But sometimes when he isn't using it. I might...

Womancat Wensday

LORI:  TBT often sees Marley drinking water.  And it is from a bowl where we eat.  There is a flowing water-thing nearby, but none of us use it (yet).

But TBT saw me drinking from the regular bowl.

Well, it usually has food crumbs and hair in it.  Marley drinks from the bowl and shed fur into it.  Yuck.  But TBT used a strainer to take all "the stuff" out of it.

Stainless Steel Fine Mesh Skimmer Singapore - Pantry Pursuits

Takes out all furs and crumbs.

And he had tossed some dry kibbles around (which we love to chase).

So I was a bit thirsty.  The nice clean water was just what I wanted!

TBT:  I bought a small bottle of "waterbowl-flavoring" a few months ago.  I keep forgetting to use it but I did yesterday.  Lori apparently likes it.  I've never seen her drink water from the bowl before.  I think that like, most of the previous Mews, she likes the pond water outside better.  And gets water from the canned foods.

But it was nice seeing her drinking inside...

Twofur Tuesday And World Spay Day

TBT:  Loki and Binq are often together.  The TV chair is a favorite place.  Sometimes both are on the top, but most often, one is on the top and the other on the seat.

Binq was napping on the top, but suddenly stood up.  So I got what I could get.  And she looks like a good model for a Halloween pumpkin...  LOL!

World Spay Day

And BTW, Happy World Spay Day.  All The Mews are spayed or neutered of course.  Not to diminish the importance and peace of neutering the Mancats, but I'm glad for spaying the Womancats.  Ayla and Iza had their spats.  Lori and Binq have some hissies too.

But spats and hissies are one thing.  I can only contemplate the household disruption if neither was spayed.  "Hiss" would be "fur on the floor"...

I can't help remembering the difficulty in getting Lori spayed at the previous Vet.  It was an adventure in discovering that Vets are not equally knowledgable.  That Vet said Lori had "low platelet count and couldn't be spayed.  She eventually went to a tech lab and learned (yes "learned" - she must have skipped class that day at Vet University) that cat platelet clumps are routine.

You can read all about that HERE.  I was surprised, and it caused me to change Vets.  When I mentioned the "platelet thing', even the vet tech knew all about that.  That's why I love them.

So, Happy World Spay Day!

Mancat Monday

MARLEY:  I sure love a full laundry basket!

But I cant quite get comfy.  I think there is a pea at the bottom of the basket...

Easy Like Sunday

LORI:  Marley and I have spent most of the day outside.  If it is dry and above 50F, we are happy.  And since Loki and Binq are showing more interest in getting out (and the temp will be in the 60s), TBT is going to walk them around outside.  One at a time, of course...

He is hoping outside time will calm Loki down a bit (he has been peeing on the bed).  Binq is just a ball of energy, so a chance to run around should please her too.  Also, if all The Mews are safe being out, TBT won't have to guard the doors so much.

Of course, we also love to eat.  The kitchen mat is one of the few places Me and Loki can be near each other peacefully sometimes.

Sometimes TBT feeds Marley and I in separate rooms.  Marley so he gets his kidney care diet (Binq likes it too and she can really get her nosie into anny bowl).  Me so I can eat in peace when I need some.+

Flashback Friday

Today is this week from 2011.

The Mews were enjoying sniffies through the deck screen door.  Ayla was really stretching up for it.  Meezers have long necks!

Ayla and Marley were still able to fit on my lap together.

And when that shirt went into the laundry hamper, Marley decided it was a good smell to nap on...

Iza and Marley shared a windowsill, but Iza decided it was "crowded".

But they shared a chair well enough later...

Mancat Tuesday

LOKI:  I went OUT yesterday!  Not free, but "out".  TBT tried to get a harness on me, but I resisted that of course.  So he put me in the PTU and set me outside on the deck.

It was wonderful!  I smellded the air, weather, birds and skweerls.  And it wasnt cold outside.  I got a laundry-cycle of time outside.  Really, he was doing laundry because I peed on the sheets.

Now I know why Marley and Lori like the outside so much!

Next time TBT comes with the harness, I might allow it.

I want more "out". Real "out".  Out out...

Womancat Monday

LORI:  Safe place to watch the Newbies...  I feel pretty safe up here.

I keep hoping they escape outside and leave.

But TBT is careful around the doors.  Drat!

My laser-eyes don't work well enough either.

Caturday Saturday

LOKI:   The chair...  I LOVE it.

Even when TBT gets in the pic.  He's OK.

And sometimes better than OK.  Even if he blocks me someparts.

That one is good.  He is almost growing some fur!  Long way to go though.

Flashback Friday

Today for Flashback Friday, this week in 2016...

Iza was curled up beautifully on my lap.

And showed her paws.

We had a snowstorm, but the birdfeeders were filled.  The larger birds appreciated that.

The thistle seed feeders were appreciated by the finches too.

I dug a path to the edge of the deck.  The Mews loved that they could get to the edge to watch the birds at the feeders.

It melted fast.  Just 2 days and it was gone.  Warm spell came in.

Sometimes, Winter is like that.

Thankful Thursday

BINQ:  I am thankful for this house, TBT, lots of food (I eat a lot), the TV chair ta nap on, and scritchies.  I am thankful for Loki who is a good friend and Marley who puts up with anything.  We normally think of all other cats in the house as Brofurs and Sisfurs, but he is kinna more like an Unclecat.

I mean, he is older than the rest of us.  We are all about almost 3 to almost 4, but he is 14!    That makes him 72 in cat years!  And TBT says HE is just 73.  So they are almost the same age.  That seems like forever to me.

It seems like I just got here yesterday, but it has been almost 3 Big Moons now...

I am thankful I feel I belong here...

Twofur Tuesday

LOKI:  Night-time, an I was nappin.

Binq snuck up and waked me with a head-tap.  She wanted ta play.

I wanted ta nap.

I decided ta move an hope she fell asleep where she was.
I found a tighter place ta curl up in.  I'll play later...

Mancat Monday

MARLEY:  I went to the Vet a few days ago.  TBT forgot the camera, so the whole thing is just whatever I say it is.  But here is a picture from a past visit.  It doesn't look different from this previous time.

I got the temperature probe, 2 hip stabbies, and they stole more of my blood for testing.  They say it is so they can see my health.  I think they sell it.

But whatever, TBT got a complete report about how things have changed for me this past year.

You mat remember that I have developed some kidney issues.  Not serious, but I get sub-Q injections and am on a special diet.  Both seem to be helping me.

So here is what the Vet sent TBT and since I have no idea what it means, I'll let TBT explain that:

                BUN        Crea        Phos        Alb
2/8/24        43.5        2.7          2.7          3.1
9/27/23      46.7        2.8          3.0          3.7
8/30/23      63.7        2.4          3.2          3.6
4/26/23      65.7        2.5          3.3          3.4

TBT:  First, Marley has gone from 16.5 pounds to 14.0 in a year.  That was a goal set by the vet.  But they don't want him to lose more (he is a naturally big cat), so 14-14.5 pounds is the weight I wil try to keep him at.

The BUN numbers are encouraging.  He started getting the Hills and Royal Canin kidney diet food in 8-23 and his numbers dropped well.  The vet wasn't worried about the Crea numbers.  The lower Phos and Alb numbers pleased the vet.

I don't actually know much about what those mean, but if it pleases the vet, it pleases me as well.  It all basically means that Marley has responded well to the kidney diet food and the sub-Q injections.

The sub-Q injections better be helping, because it is a real pain to do it!  Stabbing Marley 2x a week is somewhat upsetting to both of us.  He is pretty good about it.  He stays calm in the carrier while I do it, and the vet says many cats fight and squirm.  So I'm lucky.  He trusts me to do only good things.

At this most recent vet visit, the vet and the assistant spent some time admiring Marley.  They just love his calm nature.  The vet even groomed him just to hear him purr for it.  For a DSH, he has a very thick coat and she admired that.

So when I pointed out his small patch of black fur on his neck, she realized he was unusual.  That makes him a male calico cat.  The chances of this happening are only about 1 in 3,000.  He isn't XY, he is XXY.

I seem to have luck finding unusual cats.  Skeeter was a spotted orange guy (not really tabby).  Iza had a Siamese pedigree certificate, but was actually a Tonkie.  Lori came from a championship breeder who closed down right after I got her.  Ayla was the runt of the litter and the breeder couldn't wait to get rid of her, yet she lit up my life all her many years.

It isn't always good to have "special".  Laz was a problem.  I thought I got him "mentally regular" but he went nuts eventually.  The newbies from the Shelter (Loki and Binq) came with problems.  Loki had a head infection causing eye goops and he had abdominal muscle spasms.  Fortunately, those went away.

Binq had real pants clawey and hand-grabby habits.  Those are much reduced now, though I still wear heavy jeans these days.  She is also getting better at spending time on my lap or near me.

Things gradually get better...
