Garden Tour Thursday

LAZ:  Welcome ta this week Garden Tour!  I'm the guide today...  Lets take a look around...

The Coreopsis Moonbeam blooms every year.  Ayla says it has been blooming as long as SHE has been here and that is nearly forever.
The regular yella daylilies are blooming.  We know not ta chew the leaves.
The meadow bed has Queen Anne's Lace everywhere.    Good bugs like them, so TBT leaves them ta grow.
Around them, the Black-Eyed Susans grow well.  TBT dug up a few and stuck them around and they are spreading.  Since they are native to the area, they thrive and spread.
The Hydrangeas are still blooming well.  TBT has kinna ignored them fer a few years, but they don't mind.
Our Stokes Asters bloom again.  Like the Coreopsis, they are older than Ayla is.  In fact, she thinks she remembers Skeeter mentioning them.
Our Coneflowers are blooming.  But they move around.  Most are not where they were last year.  But they did that on their own.  TBT wants some in the meadow bed, and since some are growing in the garden paths, that seems to be good for both.
Ya can see some small apples here.  Sadly, they wont last.  The Evil Skwerrels pick them green and run away.  TBT is gonna cut them down an use the wood in the smoker.  And plant more flowers there.
A few more colorful daylilies are showing up.  There will be more colorful ones soon.
The other side of the daylily bed.  Same yella.  TBT is gonna dig some up and mix the colors more.
The last of the Star-Gazer Lilies.  These are in the shadiest place they will grow, so they bloom last.

Well, that's the Garden Tour for THIS week.  TBT and Ayla are bringing snacks and drinks on to the shady deck, so lets go up there and relax after all this running around and see what they chose.

Wow, we seem to have poached minced shrimpses and come chicken (both unspiced).  Way ta go Ayla!  And TBT crushed Nip Leafs into a mild (low-sodium) beef broth.  And there is a bowl of crunchies for those who like them a lot (as I do).

Thank you fer coming along on our Garden Tour!

Garden Tour Thursday

AYLA:   Well, we finally have enough to start Garden Tours again.  It was a cold dry May, so it took a while for some flowers to show up...

Please come along with me as I guide you around the yard.

First, we have some nice yellow flowers in the meadow bed.  I dont know the name.
There is a rose in the veggie bed.  TBT says he should move it to a more "formal" spot.
This is a Tithonia.  We planted them 2 years ago and they are finally blooming.  Some flowers take a while.
Our 1st purple coneflower of the year.  There will be more.
I don't know the name of this shrub.  The label is buried.  I think the flowers open yellow.
The Stargazer lillies are beginning ta open.  More later, but one has to come first.
The backyard Stalla D Oro are getting ready ta bloom.

The deck Mums are growing nicely.  But flowers fer them come much later.
The lettuces and such are loving the deck.  They get clipped daily for TBT ta eat but they grow back.  I mostly just admire the colors.  Not like I'm gonna eat lettuce...
The deck bin of Star-Gazers are blooming.  It will be FULL of flowers soon.
The mailbox Stella D Oro are blooming.  They get more sun out there.  And they do good there.  They can take dryness.  TBT doesn't ezactly water the mailbox often.
Another view of them.  And our fishie sign.

So that's the Tour for this week.  It was nice ta do it again.  Iza used ta do it better, but we are gonna take turns ta decide who is best at it now.

Now lets go up on the shady deck an just sit around an meow.  TBT and Marley are decidin what ta bring out.  Marley chose fresh-crushed Nip leafs and who can object ta THAT?  TBT chose some minced ham, some minced shrimp, and ooh, some turkey.  I think he is tryin ta empty the freezer but those all sound good.

Thanks fer comin along on out Garden Tour!

Garden Tour Thursday

AYLA:  Looks like I get the Tour Job.  So while we dont have a lot ta show, I will do my best!

The Black-Eyed Susans are doing well.  They should, as they are native here.
They are thriving in many places around the yard and we like them a lot.
A 3rd place...
Our original butterfly bushes (older than me even) have been slowly dying.  But a volunteer grew.  It looks as good as the old ones.
It didn't get prined back last Winter because TBT was afraid of killing it so he could take cuttings.  That dint werk...  But it grows, so he likes it.
Thats all we have right now.  The constant rain isn't good for flowering.

But we allus appreciate visitors on the Garden Tour (such as it is this week), so I asked TBT ta help Marley and Laz choose better snacks than usual.

Well, look at this.  We have SHRIMPS!  And some Ham and some fancy drinks...

A Nip Smash!  Nip with Toona juice and bubbly water!  New ta me too.  The bubbles are fun in yer nosie.

Thanks fer coming along on the Garden Tour...

Thursday Garden Tour

IZA:  We haven't done that for a while.  It has been a hard Summer.  We got less than 2" of rain in August and .1" so far this month.  September is usually a rainy month...

We try not to waste water here, but TBT has watered a lot of the flowers and veggies (yuck)  each week.  I learned this thing about drilling a small hole in buckets and setting them near plants he want to save the most.  The water drips out slowly and gets down deep to the roots.  That helps them a lot I guess

So there are some plants doing OK, and I want to show them...  Let's go around and see what we can see.
The Asters are doing well...
This is some kind of weed.  But for a weed, it is pretty impressive.  And the flowers are COVERED with  small waspy incests we think are native and declining, so we aren't going to bother it.
Not everything went well.  The meadow bed completely failed. TBT says he will till it up and try again.
The Bee/butterfly/hummer bed didn't do too well either.  TBT raked the soil loose in early Spring and spred seeds.  He even put some seedlings in.  They died.   The funny thing is that he accidently spread Niger seeds meant for the goldfinch feeders.  THEY grew!
They have some nice orange flowers.  He may spread some in specific places next year.  Almost anything that grows here is appreciated.
We had a great crop of Pokeberries here this year.  Seriously, TBT is sharpening a sword to hack them down.  Don't ask me where he gets stuff like that.  We don't want the pokeberries though.
We also grew a great crop of thistles.  We don't want them either.  But the pokeberries and thistles are easier to deal with than the wild blackberries, so things are getting better back there.
The Mums are beginning ta bloom.  We have orange, red and yellow.  And one that is red with a yeller center.  He will move them to the flowerbed later.  That tree in the front is a Sourwood.  It gets burgandy leaves and gold small flowers in Fall.   TBT has 2 planted in the back yard, so this one will go in the front yard.
The gold zuchinni have done well and they look great.  Dad mixes them with onions, tomatoes and oregano.  That sounds pretty evil to me,  but iffen ya like vegables, at least they look inneresting.
The small pond is doing well.  Lilies and Sweet Flag.  There are 2 happy goldfish and a bunch of frogs.
The Autumn Joy Sedum is beginning to color up.  Those things seem to last forever.    Good, Dad needs some plants like that.
This one is new.  It's called Tithonia.  The flower looks a bit weird, all waxy and harsh color.  But it survived when most of the Zinnias and others around it died.  And it self sows, so maybe we will bet more of them next year.   Any flower that comes back on it's own seems good.
A few Purple Coneflowers made it through the hots.   Bugs like them and I like bugs sometimes.  Works for me...
Well, lets go up on the deck.  The air is sort of cool and the deck is warm but not hot from the sun on it earlier.  So what does Ayla have for us today?

Interesting.  "Beyond" Trout and Catfish and poached chicken!  And Niptinis.  An excellent choice, thank you Ayla.  And ooh, she was hiding some turkey crunchies!

Thank you all from coming along...

Thursday Garden Tour

AYLA:  I'm doin The Garden Tour again this week.  Iza an I tossed toy mousies and MINE went higher...

So first, note the nice white hydrangeas behind me.  That's why Im starting here.  And while we start on the deck, we will end here too.

So lets go down and take a look at what there is to see!

First is the best flower Ive ever seen.  TBT says it is a Cleome.  Notice that it is about 3' tall too.  Dad says it self-sows, so we are hoping for more of them next year.  Who wouldnt?
The daylilies of better colors are starting ta bloom.  Like I said last week, they will be moved to the front yard this Fall.  We never touch them, but he says better to remove risks.

So after the Yellows of last week, now there are corals...
multicolored...
butters...
Hmmm, maybe THIS is coral...
Yellows...
The purple coneflowers are back again.   There are fewer this year, but Dad says he could divide them and move some around...
The volunteers actually have better color.  Should I tell Dad to divide these instead?
The "Leftover" bed is starting to grow.  They were tall but in little tiny growing celpots, so if they got THIS big in those, they are pretty hardy.  I can't wait to see them in a month!
The Stokes Asters are still blooming (they are my favorite flower).  Well, so are the coneflowers, but dont tell either of them that!
Here is a longer view of the daylilies...  Lots of yellows.
But some of the others are good.  In fact Dad says he should put bamboo stakes with labels in the better colors and use them in the front yard...
The hydrangeas are looking purrfectly white...
So let's go back up on the deck to get a better view.   The daylillies look good.  Dad has to mow the weeds and cover the area.  You might not see it, but trust me that there is a NIP plant between every daylily.  We always go for the NIP.
Now, back up on the deck, the Coreopsis Moonbeams are doing well.  They are older than me.

Now lets see what Marley has chosen for snacks...

Ooh, the last of the crunchy Roo treats, some Rabbit Stinky Goodness, some cheese bits (for those who dont have problems with it), and NIPTINIS!  And rainwater, of course...

Thank you all for coming along on our Garden Tour this week!!!
