Snow, Part 2

TBT:   So, a few days ago, Taz and Binq experienced 1" of snow.  Yesterday, we ended up with about 10".  OK, that's not much compared to other places, but Washington DC rarely gets much.  We are somewhat protected from storms from the West by the Appalachian Mountains.  The bad ones come up from the South (full of moisture) and hit standing cold air.  This one came from the West.

We were predicted to get 3-5".  But this was a real "Arctic Express", moving fast.  It went over the Appalachians like they weren't there.  So I have 10" on the ground and some local areas have 12".  First real snowstorm in 3 years.  And it arrived with 30 mph gusts which will continue several days.

Marley has experienced "deep" snow before (2' once).  But Lori, Taz, and Binq certainly have not (they are just too young).

I took some pictures of them looking at it all...

I mentioned Marley and the previous Mews have/had some experience with deep snow.  But that is only after I have shoveled a path from the deck door to the far edge so they can get out and watch the birds at the feeders.  And laugh at the Evil Skwerrels struggling.  I haven't done that yet this time.

So they just sort of stood at the open door and stared.

Lori finally stepped out on the shallow snow near the house.  She is a very fearless womancat!  She pawed at it.
She walked back and forth near the house a few times (you can see her paw tracks..  So Taz, not wishing to seem afraid, went out too.  But he found a snowless place to sit.

But he sure didn't want to walk on it again!

The most he wanted to do was just look around for a place to run around.  But no luck there!  Everything is covered.

They both came inside soon enough.  Marley and Binq never even put a paw outside the door.  LOL!

Womancat Wensday

LORI:  The Ceiling Monster hasn't moved for 2 days.

But I am still worried.  Laz and Marley sat under it several times to show me it wasnt dangerous.  So now I unnerstand.  It wants to grab only Womancats.  Well, Ayla doesn't go in that room either (much).   So that kind of proves it.

I wont go out the deck door because thats through where the Ceiling Monster is (even when it is sleeping).  Thankfully, TBT is letting me out and in through the basement door.  That gets a bit difficult though, cuz TBT can't see me waiting at the basement door when he is upstairs.

TBT picked me up (which I don't like a whole lot - I'd rather sit on his shoulders) and carried me through the TV Room ta show me it was safe.  I kept looking up at the Ceiling Monster and then away and squirming to be set free!

Inside, I spend a lot of time in the bedroom.  Now I know why Ayla likes ta be there. It feels safe.  Outside, I don't want ta come in.

TBT says that when the new cool-maker is installed Friday, The Ceiling Monster will go back to sleep for a looooonnngg time.  And that would be good.  But it will still be there.

Thankful Thursday

TBT:  Our current vet clinic seems to be trying to "go out of business".  The Mews were cared for by a wonderful vet for 30 years but he retired and we got transferred to this practice with 3 vets.  Apparently, only one remains and she doesn't seem to be there often..  They are closed all this week and it not the first time they have done that.

So I looked up other vets nearby.  I talked to one for an hour.  They seem to be good (asked about the cats before discussing costs). Very friendly and had a good Yelp review.

Lori needs her annual shots and we have an appointment for Jan 16th. We'll see how that goes.  Meanwhile, the new vet office is getting the medical records from the previous one.

I hate to change vets.  I know they all mean well, but maybe some are better at it than others.  But Lori is just going in for a few routine shots and anyone can do that well enough.

What I'll really be looking at is the waiting room, the exam room, and how they handle Lori on the table.  I wish it was Marley; he's calm but tough. But it is Lori's turn for shots and I can't change that.

I sure miss Dr Miller, but he did 30+ years and that was enough for him.  Time to establish a new vet relationship.  I hope this one lasts.

Thankful Wensday

LORI:  Laz was late coming in last night.  I was worried.  TBT says bad things can happen out at night.

He went out and called a lot.  Even walked around in the dangerous dark.  Laz didn't return when he should have (he did later, so don't worry).  But I was uoset.  I don't like to be away from Laz.

I kept looking out the deck door for him to return.  I was really worried...

He finally returned.  I was so happy ta see him, I whapped him for being out so late!  He deserved it.

Twofur Tuesday

Actually, a Threefur...  Its good fer US lately.

TBT says that anyday we are all around happy together, it is a GOOD day.  And we are getting better at that.  An he says there will be a new MEW joining us here in a few weeks and we better be all good together or we will get crummy food fer a week!

He says it will be a little Tonkie girlcat...

We'll see how that works after she arrives.  She better be polite!
