[Ayla, it is a blue plastic tarp that was buried for years until the tree people pulled it loose. So it smells of dirt. And bugs. And, well I guess that WOULD be pretty interesting!]

FOOD DAY!

LC: Every 5 Big Moons or so, TBT goes out an scores a major hunt of our can food. We get so ecited ta see so much of it an know we will have indoor food fer a long time. Well, today was the day he did it again! We asked him ta stack it all up on the kitty tower.

We first got Ayla ta get up there and sniff at the cans to find out which flavors we will have fer the next moonths. But she sniffed too low an all ya see is her backside. She usually has better camera sense than THAT!

So we also got a picture of the whole stack. An of course, this is jus the dinner stuff. We gotta a whole cabinet of Fancy Feast fer our breakfasts, and there mus be a squillion flavors of THAT!

This time, The Big Thing has made some adjustments fer Ayla's taste for non-fishie stuff. I am not pleased about that, being how I loves fishies, but fair is fair. Ayla isn't that fond of fishie. So this time, we got 3 fishies, 3 non-fishie, an one combination. Skeeter will eat anything, so he doesn't care.

We get one differnt dinner flavor fer each day of the week (and of course a whole buncha differnt Fancy Feast breakfast flavors), so we dont get bored or used ta just a few flavors. This time, we are having (Friskies except for Tuna; 9 Lives is much better tuna):

Mon - Turkey&Giblets
Tue - Chicken&Salmon
Wed - Ocean Whitefish
Thu - Turkey in Gravy
Fri - 9 Lives Tuna
Sat - Beef in Gravy

New Sunday Cat Food Review

AYLA here:
Skeeter and LC have reviewed efry canned cat food they efer ate. Ive been here fer 8 big moons and dint have any say in it. So they haf agreed (reluctantly) that its MY TURN!

I've talked ta The Big Thing about they way they did it, and he agreed (reluctantly) that there were some "flaws inna system". Fer example, as I so gently pointed out, the "premixed" and "oils" allus balanced out. So I am eliminating those. If the food has oils init, it hasta be mixed an iffen it has no oils, it doesnt.

So I'm gonna go through the whole list "our way". We will all 3 of us judge the food, but on the basics. First, if it is served to us, I will presume it is "healthy" enough (The Big Thing wont even TRY to feed us junk food). And I will be insisting on some of the "really healthy" foods too. I grew up on Evo...

Given all that, I will be judging foods entirely on what we kitties care about; flavor/taste, smell, lapability, and chew-pleasure!

Skeeter and LC will still be part of the measurements, so it will be based on "6 paws" (highest rating). Flavor/taste counts triple, smell double, lapability and chew each once (Skeeter will lap any sauce, so I can't count that too highly).

I need a week to get it all organized (with The Big Thing's help), so my first food review will be next Sun Day. It will be differnt!

The hard part is convincing The Big Thing to go hunt all those flavors again...

I Dare You #4

We couldn't come up with "one creative, fun, useful way to save the environment". We are a bit weak on "creativity". So we decided to just mention some of the things we do that are "environment-friendly".


1. We clean our food cans and recycle them. The Big Thing keeps a box for his own recyclable stuff, and we add ours!





2. We go outside ta "do our business" whenever possible. The picture isnt very detailed, but it is a pile of the brush we scrape over our "stuff". The Big Thing says the plants like it so long as we don't go directly on them. So we find spaces between them.

3. We soak up as much sunlight as we can in cool weather and bring it inside the house with us quick. That reduces the heating requirements in the house.




4. We lick our bowls as clean as possible. That reduces waste. When there is anything left (not often after Skeeter is done eatin) it goes in a "compost bucket" The Big Thing keeps for his veggie scraps. It all goes in the compost bin.

5. We compost! Yeah, we know ya aren't spossed to compost meat stuff, but that's cause it attracts varmints. He has a closed system, though (a "tumbler bin"), so thats OK. It amazin, corn husks, carrot an potato peels, an stuff go in and dirt comes out!

6. We help drag plants to the reglar compost bins. Ayla especally likes ta drag sticks around an those go on the pile. Skeeter an I let TBT know if groundhogs get into it. One time we found cute little snakes in it...

7. We are organic. The flowers and veggies TBT likes grow in natural stuff. That's why we haf ant lions, an ladybuggies, and honeybees, and flutterbyes. The only exception is poison ivy. TBT has some nasty stuff fer that, and we arent allowed out for a day after he uses it. As if we were gonna EAT the poison ivy... MOL!

8. We catch mice to reduce the amount of cans TBT has ta hunt for us. An that avoids a lot of can food processin an shipping an stuff!




9. Speakin of processin and shippin an stuff, we grow our own Nip, too. Same advantages. An, like live mousies, it taste better.






10. In good weather, we leave the deck door open ta let the breeze in in Spring an Fall. That saves aircondionin warmth or coolth energy.

Arr! Our fancy scheduled post fer today seems ta have dissappeared. So we're just gonna drink our grog an wait ta see what crawls outta t' bung hole. It better be good or t' cook be goin inta t' bilge water.

Kitty Tag 2

SKEETER:

Well, we left off the kitty tag game report yesserday with Ayla trapped on the roof with LC waitin patiently at the bottom of the laddr when The Big Thing called out "DINNERTIME". That's the one thing Ayla cannot refuse ta respond to. A terible dilema!

Well Ayla is no silly kitten! She went halfway down the laddr, then jumped ta the deck rail and was inna house inna flash. LC hardly efen knowed what happened!

Ayla was "safe" inna house (no taggin there), she (and I, I'm no slouch at dinner) were already eatin by the time LC figured what was up. She came in glarin, outfoxed (out-Aylaed?) She whapped Ayla's tail, but Ayla dint efen stop eatin cause she knew that dint count.

LC finally went ofer to her own food bowl and ate (annoyed)... Tag game OFER!

Kitty Tag

SKEETER:

We hadda ecitin game of kitty tag outside today. As reported by ME (up on the deck):

Oh Ayla whapped LC's tail in passing "Tag" and ran off. LC chased her good, Ayla jumped a tree, scrabbled around it an went running off in a new direction. LC was taken off guard by that, but gave chase ta where there were no trees. Ayla went up the fence but LC was right behind her an got a tail whap in. TAG!

LC used her expertise by jumpin ofer the posts like a squirrel (no insult intended LC). She knows Ayla isnt so good at that yet, so she got several posts advantage afore jumpin down in the soft ground she knows best and racin across the yard...

But Ayla is a champion runner and made up lost ground fast. She caught LC with a paw ta the back leg. TAG!

and turned tail and ran. Oh wow, straight up the fence, around a tree jumping OFER LC as she ran past and

Oh mouse-droppings, Ayla went straight up the laddr onta the ROOF! LC cant get her there... Game OFER!

Wait, LC is sitting patiently at the bottom of the laddr. Whats goin on? Ooh, The Big Thing has come out and said "DINNERTIME"! LC knew, sneaky experienced kitty. Ayla is in a real dither. She MUST respond to the DINNERTIME call, but LC can wait.

An Awardie!

AYLA: I get ta answer this one!

PB&J gave us this awardie a few days an we dint get to it real fast. We been havin the SLOWS on our puter... It is wunnerful, though, an things are werking good tonite!

We Gotta Prezzie!

SKEETER:

Well, we aktally got it a WHOLE WEEK AGO but just found out today. The Big Thing set it aside thinking it was a book he ordered, an when he looked at it he was SO embarrassed. When he turned it over, we could see it had OUR NAMES onit!

It was the prezzie from The Cats P! We guessed right that their Beins wouldn't finish a homework project on time, an our names got drawn from all the other kitties who knew that would happen.


But never mind all that. We got real ecited abut gettin a Prezzie! Efen if we should had it a WEEK ago when it arrived. We're gonna lick his toes for messin up, cause he hates that (he goes all squiggly/twitchy).


So, he finally opened the box.









The first thing we saw was paper with kitty paws all OFER it. That was cool. Ayla sniffed it all ofer.






Then she checked in the box ta make sure efrything was taken out. Ya dont wanna toss annything away inna prezzie box!. Oh, this is me, Skeeter talkin. I'm taking all the pictures too.


The first thing they noticed was the magic seal that held alla paper together. It say "Siamese Cat Rescue 10th Aniversary 1998-2008". Cool!







Then they found some cool edukational papers about the group (which Ayla read carefully).







Ayla was REAL suprist ta see a frigermater sticky thing wif her picture on it. The Big Thing put it way low on the cold box so she can see it lots! Like she isnt all full of herself as it is... (ahem).


But then the actual prezzie came inta view out of the pretty paper! Its a softie purring pad!







LC checked it out first an seemed ta like it..













Then Ayla brought a squiggle to put onit. I think she liked it too But of course, I will sit on it first (but I'm stuck with camera duty fer now). Nefer you mind, I hissed at them both ta say it was mine WHEN I get away from mr flashie camera!

[Ayla: We are jus bein kind ta the old far-, uh I mean, "Grand old guy". Cause old or not, he can still land on me like a box o' magazines, iffen ya know what I mean]

So, we are all loving the purr pad an expect ta all be usin it soon, takin turns, with ME first, of course. We decided ta put it on the ottoman.


And I WAS first ta aktally nap on it. I WAS nappin, but I sat up as soon as I heard The Big Thing turn on the camera. He surprised me though by not standin BEHIND the camera when he took this picture!

Who can pass up the chance ta roll in nice dry dust on a warm patio floor? Its one of the few chances The Big Thing has ta get a tummy shot, but hes not fery good at it. Im too quick!



On the other paw, I dont mind posin fer a glamour shot from time ta time. This one with Black & White shadows on cement with me (Black & White) jus seemed purrfect!

In remembrance of the events of 9/11/2001, we are just stayin quiet today...

Ayla's Stairway To Heaven...

Ayla: I jus hadda show my laddr up ta the roof! It is so cool it bein there. The Big Thing is leavin it there until he gets a good picture of me up there, so I figure if I move fast an dont let him get a good picture, then the laddr stays. Right?

I love havin it there. Its better than a tree!


An here I am at the bottom thinkin about goin up. But I dint, cause The Big Thing got upset the first coupla times I did. So I only go up when he aint lookin.

Skeeter: Wow, I sure nefer expected THIS from all the tree-removin activity. Whodda thunk it?

Sunlight in the affernoon where I nefer saw it afore! WOW! The Big Thing's veggie garden is all lit up an he seems real pleased about it. I useta nap in the shade there...

But at least it is all calm again an there is still lotsa shade...

Goodbye Trees, Part 2

LC: I went out the next morning. The whole yard looks so different! There are trees gone, light where it never was before, an rfen new patterns of shade!

Ayla says she saw it all but Skeeter an I dont beleef her cause she was hidin unner the bed "lots", though I will admit that she did leave sometimes ta peek out the windows. It must haf been a bit scary to see cause I noticed she dint use a litterbox until real late at night. MOL!

And fer once, she wasn't real ankshus ta go outside first thing. She jus sat on the kitty condo top looking out the front windows an duckin her head efrytime a car drove by. Skeeter an I know to hide unner the bed when weerd thins are happnin. Ayla can go watch an get nervous fer days after iffen she wants. WE know how ta avoid that!

So I was shocked ta see weird short stumps where there useta bein trees! Here's what I found:
















































And then there was this one spot where a old stump got pulled out roots an all leavin this huge patch of sand it grew in! Wow...
