Thankful Thursday

We re thankful for challenges in the house.  We mean, outside is great.  Mousies, Birdies, Skwerls.  Great sniffs and smells!  But inside the house, it is mostly restful.  Oh TBT tosses kibbles and toys around but he cant do it all day.  And we do have to nap.

But we sure love The Puzzle Box!

And The Egg.

Easy Like Sunday

BINQ:  More fun with the egg...

Lori and Marley were outside, so we got some practice at it by ourselves (they are more experienced with it).  But they got their own time with it refilled later.  Sorry, no pics of that.  TBT went out with us when Marley and Lori came in.

Flashback Saturday

We here were all a bit busy yesterday, so this week's flashback is today.  So we go back to this week in 2011...

There was grooming.

There was scratching.

There was wrassling.

There was cardboard tube destruction.

There was playtime.

There was puzzle time.

Good times were had by all!

Easy Like Sunday

We got both the Evil Puzzle Box and the Egg last night!

Marley watched, but left us womancats to both of them.  Taz was napping.

It took some werk, but we both got of yummy kibbles!

Easy Like Sunday

TBT:  The Puzzle Box and The Egg...

Years ago, I glued an Amazon box shut, spray-painted it green (because cats see green best), and cut holes in the top and sides.  I put a handful of kibbles in there.  Some Mews love it (Ayla especially).  Lori and Binq enjoy it a lot (is this a female cat thing?).

Marley just wants to wait for loose kibbles.  He knows I will eventually put a few under his nose.

Lori and Binq also like the Egg.  Lori is better at knocking it around to get kibbles to fall out, but Binq is getting better at it.

Taz just doesn't seem to understand either one.  I doubt he is stupid.  But different cats catch on to different things faster than others.  But he is not a "puzzle-master", LOL!

For example, once Taz was allowed outside free (after a week of leash-walking around the yard), he "caught on" to the pleasure of wandering the yard (and understood what "our territory was").  It took Binq nearly a year to understand that the grass was safe to walk on (and she still doesn't go off the deck much).

On the other paw, Binq is a toy-master.  She plays with toys (on her own and when I toss them) very actively.  It will be interesting to see what happens in Spring.  In late Fall, she was starting to sit at the bottom of the deck stairs and a couple times wandered a bit further.  Perhaps this Spring, she will become bolder.

And perhaps Taz will see enough of Lori and Binq at the puzzles to realize he can get food from them.  You just never know...

Happy Easy Like Sunday!

Birthday Surprises (Taz's Today)

TBT:   Not too far back, I posted about not knowing Taz and Binq's birthdays and I decided to let them share mine.  Well, apparently early this year, I must have found some document from the Shelter with their actual birthdates on it.  Because at the beginning of this year, I wrote down all the regular milestone dates on the new cat calendar.

So, imagine my surprise when I turned it to September and saw I had written Taz's Birthday for today and Binq's for Sept 24th!  I must have been some document, because I wouldn't have just chosen those dates at random.  I'll have to correct the sidebar soon.

So Happy Birthday Taz!  I think it is his 4th.

No time to plan for a lot of visitors, and we are out of fancy foods anyway.  But Taz got real poached chicken.  He does love real meat.  When I am preparing any cooked meat, he stands next to me for bits and pieces (and he gets plenty).  Chicken, beef, pork, ham, bacon, shrimp; he loves them all.  He even loves bits of bread crust!

And he got a chance to play with the "kibble egg" by himself,  (I had lured the other Mews outside).

And I tossed some toys around for him.  He wasn't too interested in the Nip I offerred (some cats just aren't).  I also gave him LOTS of scritchies.  So he at least had some birthday things to enjoy...

I'll do better next year, now that I know a real birth date.

And I have to smile.  Last week, I posted about Labor day too soon.  Now I have a better post on Labor Day.  LOL!

Flashback Friday On Saturday

Because yesterday was Blog For Peace Day...

It is always a fun experience looking back in time.  I never know what special pictures I will find in some past year or another at this same week.  But this time, I was really surprised about this week in 2010!  It was a weird week...

Ayla and Iza were getting along together then.  It wasn't routine like Laz and Lori now, but it happened sometimes.  Looking at them both together then, it is easy to understand why the breeder (who originally bought Iza to be a Queen) thought she was a Siamese!

Meanwhile, I had decided I needed more space for fresh foods .  I bought a no-freezer refrigerator (planning to buy a small dedicated freezer for the basement).

Plenty of space!

But after I discovered that small freezers didn't work well, I returned it in exchange for a bottom-freezer refrigerator.  I was much happier with that.  Still have it, but am planning to move it to the basement (where I have a hideously in-efficient 35 year old one) and buy a new (more energy-efficient and better temperature-managing) one.

It holds all I need, but the temperature-control is poor.  And actually, it is fun to see how I have changed my storage arrangements since then.

And Ayla and Iza were having fun with the "egg".  You unscrew the top and fill it with small kibble.  They learned to bat it around and make the kibbles fall out the hole for treats.

Ayla used to love sitting in the master bedroom (fake-marble) sink.  The sun shone in at midday and warmed it up well.  Being small (and me liking a cool house) she really appreciated that.

Happy Flashback Friday!

Flashback Friday

Today, we go to this week in 2010.  Ayla and Iza were introduced to the "treat egg".  They had to figure out how to get the treats out of the small hole by batting it around.  Iza was very straitforward about it.  Once she saw a treat come out, she beat it around hard until the good stuff came out.  Iza was always very direct about things.  Ayla was more delicate about it and tapped it a lot gently.  But she got her share.

Iza was Master at the egg.  Ayla was never too sure of it.  So Iza got more treats.  Marley never showed any interest in it.
