Thanksgiving And Flashback Friday

Well, this year, TBT didnt cook a turkey.  This kitty was luckier...

But he did poach a no-spice chickie breast and we all shared it!

Back in this week 2014 though...

Iza was giving us the raspberry.

Marley could still get on top of the fence.

And Ayla was posing bootifully.

Happy Thanksgiving

THE MEWS:   TBT dint cook a real turkey this year, but we had Turkey and Giblets Stinky Goodness fer dinner!  We enjoyed it!  Laz dint even demand kibbles sprinkled on top...

Ayla ate separately, but then she allus does.  TBT spent time with her as she did, though, which was good.

We all purr our thanks today fer good food, good shelter, good health, and TBT!

We hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving Dinner (where it is celebrated on this day).

PEE ESS:  Friends FurEver posted a picture of a cat looking like a turkey.  We have one of Skeeter sort of looking like that.

So we thought we should show it...  MOL!

Flashback Friday

Today we go back to 2014, because we dint GET a turkey this year!  TBT just couldnt bear the thought of the long lines at the grocery store this year.

So this is what we SHOULD have seen this year but dint...

On the other paw, we DID get canned Turkey With Gravy, Turkey And Giblets, Chicken In Cream Sauce, and Chicken With Liver.  Those were all pretty good.  And we got frequent treats!

But he better do better next year...

Thanksgiving Day

THE MEWS:  TBT says today is Thanks Giving Day in our place where we give thanks to the bounty of nature and (for us) mousies.  Sometimes a birdie, but that is rare.  But on our own, we would be very hungry cats.

So first we want to thank TBT for the food he gives us every day several times.  It is GOOD STUFF.  We get fishie food and birdie foods every day.

Second, we want to say TBT is a GOOD FRIEND.  He scritches us in places that we have trouble getting at,  He takes Sticky Seeds out of our furs,  He takes loose furs off us. He lets us sit on his LAP and feel loved.

He pays attention when we meow.  Sometimes that just means we want attention and sometimes we want to go out,  He seems to know.  We are thankful for that,   He doesn't speak The Language, but he guesses pretty well.

He talks to us all day.   We love to hear him talk to us.  It means he knows we are there around him.  We all talk back.

He stays outside with us ta protect us when we are out,  and that makes us feel safe.  We love being out.  It is very exciting.  And so, when he has to go IN to like make his complicated meals, we come back in.  Because we know he and we will go out again the next day.

We know we are lucky kitties,  TBT says so.  And we agree.  It is a GOOD PLACE.  Marley and Ayla knew from the start (well after a few days).  I Laz, had a trouble trusting it at first, but I know now,

We are showing it by getting along.  Yeah, we used these pics a few days ago, but it still counts.  We are getting along.

We are all thankful and happy here...

We are thankful to be here...

Flashback Friday

MARLEY:  This is not a usual flashback.  It was this week in 2011.  I was unhappy.  TBT dragged me to a strange house with lots of strangers.  He thought I was SO laid-back, I would enjoy it.  I dint.  Laid-back at home is not laid-back away.
There was a womancat who lived there and SHE was not happy I was there.
I stayed quiet and peaceful.
She hissed.  Its not like I WANTED to invade her space.  TBT brought me there.
It was worse when he pulled me out of the PTU.  Quite frankly, I would have stayed there...  But we met.
I hid as best I could.
She even glared at TBT.  I think she knew he brought me.
But even a stranger kitty like me gets to claim a corner...
She accepted that.  I mean, fer all SHE new, I might be a new brofur!
Though she wasnt thrilled.
It was an uneasy situation.
The Beins all had a grand time eating.  I was offerred some, but I dint wanna upset the womancat by eating food in her home.
She got some turkey though. Well, it WAS her home.
Pictures were taken all around me.
And the smells were pawesome.  Turkey, shrimps, gravy...
Just LOOK at all that stuff!
I sure did.  TBT tried ta get me ta eat.  But you dont do that when you're hiding.
And especially not when yer bein watched!   Lucy had some SERIOUS lasers.
I was glad ta get home.

THEN I ate!  We ALL did.  TBT brought home good stuff.

Thanksgiving

We are thankful for our food.  Especially when it is unspiced turkey thigh.  With gravy (but not too much).

We are thankful for sunpuddles in the growing-colder days.

We are thankful for The Lap.

We are thankful for the heated waterbed and TBT who makes it even warmer unner the blankies.

We are thankful for our friends who like us enough to visit.

We are thankful for clean litterboxes.  And, may we say, enjoying using them immediately just "because".

We are thankful for tossed treats.  Any chase that results in great tastes is good.

We are thankful for a backyard full of mousies.  Dad is not so thankful, but does appreciate us keeping the population down.

We are thankful for toys.  We each have our favrits.

We are thankful for the Cat Blogosphere.

We are thankful for the computer that lets us tell our friends what we are doing and lets us see what they are doing.

We are even thankful for The Bridge.  Not because we want annyone to leave, but because we know that what starts must end.  And The Place Past The Bridge is where we will meet old friends, the Cats Who Came Before, and someday, Dad...  And that will mean our circle is complete.

Happy Thanksgiving to all...

Flashback Friday

MARLEY:  2011 Thanksgiving Dinner was bad.  TBT took me to a strange house with a angry cat in it.   She hissed and spit.  I stayed hidey.

The ladycat of the house was NOT friendly.
I hid.  Well, I WAS barely 1 year old...

After that, TBT promised me he would never drag me a strange place again.  And he never has.

But TBT liked the visit.

No, he isn't in the pictures.

The No-Turkey No-Ham Thanksgiving

THE MEWS:  Well, dint get real turkey or even ham for Thanksgiving Day!  On Thursday, we thought mebbe we got the day wrong, but it dint happen yesserday either.  So we all sat on the otto-man last evening and stared at TBT.  He KNEW what the problem was, so he had ta explain.

Afterwards, we meowed among ourselfs and decided it had just the right blend of care and Being-dumbness to be true fer him.  An here is his story...

He went out hunting fer turkey Monday.  He dint want a whole turkey (them things are HUGE), but wanted turkey thighs.  We arent sure how that works, but mebbe he gets together with other hunters and they catch one and chop it into pieces to share.  Annyway, he came back with thighs but threw them away.  And then threw away some ham.  We were afraid he was losing his mind (such as it is, but we trust

TBT:  STOP!  This is impossible for The Mews to explain, so I will just take over...

Monday I went shopping to buy turkey thighs.  There were only 2 packages left and neither was as chilly as I would have liked.  But I put the colder one in my cart and looked at the whole frozen ones.  I could thaw a small one by Thursday.  But I decided that a whole one was too much (and I don't like most of the other parts).  And I was concerned about the safety of the package of 2 thighs.  So I went to put the thighs back.

I guess I got distracted, because I still had the thighs in my cart at checkout and didn't think about my initial concerns.  Arriving home, I was annoyed to realize I had bought them.  But I figured if I cooked them right then, they would be safe (and thighs stay moist up to about 185F).  So I cooked them.

Later, I decided it was stupid to take a chance with them and put them into a special box in the freezer that I keep meat waste (skin, steak fat, etc) to put in the garbage the night before pickup.  And I did so knowing I had a center cut 1/2" slice of ham to use instead.

Thanksgiving Day, I pulled out the ham.  The package was marked "use by Sept 10th".  Yikes!  So I added that to the freezer trash box...

Which left me pulling out some chicken thighs I had cooked and frozen the week before.  And they weren't exactly traditional American-cooked thighs.    This batch was from a N African recipe with shallots, lemon wedges and green olives.  Sounds weird, but "try it, you'll like it".  I like it.

The rest of the meal was standard stuff.  Smashed potatoes with gravy, sweet potatoes with brown sugar and butter, seasoned green beans, etc.  Not much The Mews would like though.  So they got canned minced turkey and a promise...

I'll buy (properly-chilled) turkey thighs next shopping trip.  I'll bake 1 my way (brined in apple juice, cinnimon sticks, cloves, brown sugar, garlic, and ginger)  and 1 plain for The Mews.  And hope they will forgive me for the delay of the feast...

I now return control of the post to The Mews.

THE MEWS:   him to know about food safety.  We mean, its not like he eats grass and throws it up or hacks up hairballs or sometimes eats a bug he shouldnt have.  Not that it actually bothers us to walk around a spot where one of us has tossed up a half-digested cricket, but we do notice he never hacks up stuff like that himself, so he KNOWS stuff, ya know?

And he promised us we will get REAL turkey next week!  Maybe even gravy...  And by "gravy", we mean real turkey juices, not that paste some Beins make.

That sounds pretty good and we will wait.

Happy Thanksgiving Day

May all of you who celebrate today have awesomely good foods!  And well, all of you who dont, too!

We are thrilled.  TBT is cooking a real turkey this year AND he is leavin part of it all unspiced just fer US!

8PM UPDATE! Well, it took TBT 6 hours ta cook our turkey out in the smoker for 3 hours (and finish it inside the oven fer 3 hours more, but we gotta admit it was DELISH.  And it was a gradual feast...

First, we got the gizzard all poached and cooled, all minced up about 2PM.  Then around 4 PM, we got the gizzard water along side a thin slice of outside cooked turkey breast all pulled into strips TBT took off just fer us.  Then when he finally had the turkey the way HE wanted it around 7PM, we got to have MORE turkey (this time from the leg) AND he gave us gravy to lick off from a special spoon he get just fer us.

THREE turkey meals/tastes all in ONE day!

OK, ya may wonder why we were so thrilled ta lick gravy from a spoon.  Well, sad as it seems, we KNOW who controls the food around here and it aint US!  But we get plenty of the good stuff from his plate and we aint gonna bite the horse that feeds us (or something like that (metaphors are not our strong point)!

And with just him and US and a 12 pound turkey all cooked, we are gonna get plenty of it over the next few days...

Thanksgiving Day

GROUP POST:

We are always thankful fer all the good things we have in life.  We don't do "Thankful Thursdays" often, but this IS a special Thursday.

We are thankful for food, shelter, love, and attention, of course!  But we want to be more specific...

1.  We are thankful for life; ours and everything's.  We love ours, but would it mean annything if we were alone in it?  "Living" would mean little without all the world's creatures to share it with.

2.  Food is great.  We would eat even iffen we dint NEED to ta survive.  Tastes, textures, smells, appearance; it all matters.

3.  Shelter is special.  We know there are so many who dont have much of it.  The ages may have adapted most creatures to survive outdoors, but surviving and true comfort are very different things.  We are so VERY thankful for our house with the warmth and coolth at the right times of year, and staying dry in rainy weather.  We know that almost EVRYCRITTER doesnt have that.  The wild critters, naturally, but also our homeless/feral brofurs an sisfurs.  We watch nature shows on the TV an see rain-soaked, panting, or freezing "others" just looking miserable.  We might find some friends, catch enough food outdoors, but there is not much that can replace "shelter".

4.  Love and attention are grand!  We have plenty of both.  We get them from each other and The Big Thing here, from our blogging friends all over the world, and from TV shows that tell us that cats are loved in almost all places.

Those are the Big Four.  But there are other smaller ones...

A.  There are Beins that make the toys we love; those things keep our days eciting.  And the workouts are good fer us.

B.  There are Special Sleeping Spots.  Each of us here have their own purrsonal ones, plus there are group places we love.

C.  We are thankful for the good quality cat-food companies.  Our generation of cats is healthier than some who came before.  Plus, who among us would every have tasted a toona or deer or turkey without them.

D.  We are SO thankful fer kitty litter!  TBT tells us sometimes about the old days when ya either got left outside ta "do yer business" (rain or cold) or ya dealt with clay inside that basically stayed wet.  Gives us the willies!

E.  We thank the Beins fer the Innernets!  We would feel almost "the only ones"  without it.

F.  We are thankful fer Real Mice"!  Tasty and Fun!  Enough said...

G.  We are thankful for The-Cats-Who-Came-Before.  Skeeter and LC taught Ayla how to hunt, LC and Ayla taught Iza, Ayla and Iza taught Marley.  Tinkerbelle taught Skeeter and LC; somekitty taught Tinkerbelle.  It is a tradition going back to First Cat.  And SHE probly learned it watching "Nearly Cat".

May you all have a wunnerful day of thanks here in the US, and cats all over the world have it on yer own Day of Thanks...
