Vet Visit

TBT:   Laz visited the Vet yesterday.  I wanted an FiV test for him, since he was the only one recently without the test, and since Marley tested positive, I thought that was a good idea.  Laz and Marley do wrassle sometimes, and sometimes their claws break skin (slightly and no anger involved but sharp claws are still sharp claws).

The good news is that Laz tested negative.

But it was a bit of an adventure.  I surprised Laz by picking him up suddenly and carrying him down to the basement where a PTU was waiting.  He went in the top easily enough (love those kind of carriers) but he stared yelling and moaning the instant he was in there.  I suppose he thought he was being moved to a new place again.  That was 12:05.  He continued to complain at the Vet while we waited.  I finally tossed my cout over the carrier.  That actually helped.  Partly because it muffled his yells, and partly that he calmed down.

We got into the exam room.  He was still complaining.  When the technician came in, I took the coat off the carrier and he saw (gasp) a stranger.  THAT shut him up!  The Mews almost never see strangers.

He got weighed and I was surprised.  They said he weighed 9.9 lbs.  And when I expressed some surprise (my scale says 8.4) they weighed him again.  9.9 again... Someone's scale is wrong and I know of ways to check mine (and will).  Actually, if he weigh 10 lbs, I'm glad.  He seemed to be losing weight the past year and I was worried about that.

The Vet checked him for fleas.  Marley and Ayla had some at the Vet visit 2+ weeks ago.  He had none.  Well, I got 8-month collars for all of them 2 weeks ago.  Marleys fleas are gone.  Ayla's bumps and scabs from scratching around the neck are gone too.  Yay!

So he got some blood drawn for the Fiv test.  Took a few tries to get into the right spot but then they suddenly got it.  Meanwhile the staff gave him lots of attention.  Mostly he just wanted to hide his head is someone's hand.

He was of course, very happy to arrive at home.  But he didn't get a great welcome there.  I'll post about that tomorrow, hoping the surprise problem has gone away by then...
