My Gotcha Day

MARLEY:  Today is my 8th Gotcha Day.  Wow, it doesnt seem that long!  Here is me arriving my first day here...

HaHa - "gotcha" that was Skeeter.  My first picture here was really this one ...

I was pretty unsure what was going on.  I mean, I dont really remember Mom, I ended up in a shelter with lots of other unhappy kitties and cats, some people took me away from there, but that was ta give me to a Nice Lady for Chrissymouse.

It was a very nice place and she was very kind, but she turned out ta be allergic ta kitties, so she advertised about finding me a better place.  And she found a family that wanted me, but then TBT learned about me from a blog-friend.  And he said he wanted me more than the family and had a better place and I was EXACTLY the cat he needed.

And she eventually agreed.  So he brought me to my Forever Place.  I sure went through a few places before I got here...  I stayed in a room here a few days wondering if that was all the Home I was going to get.  The new Being came in and sat with me many times during the first couple days.  I knew there were other cats in the larger space and worried about that.

But Hugo The Travelling Hippo was there to keep me company too, so that was good.

I got let out in short times the next couple of days when the Other Cats were outside.  Meanwhile, the Being sat with me after stroking the other 2 cats in the house so I could get used to their smells (2 girlcats, I could tell).  Then he carried me around the house so I could see the Other Cats (but safely in his arms).  Finally, I was allowed out of my temporary room while the Being watched us all carefully.

I got hissed at a couple times, but eventually I got sniffed and accepted.  I had a knack even then of getting along (ya learn stuff at a shelter sometimes)...

I learned from them that the Bein was called "The Big Thing".  The smaller but older one was called 'Ayla' and the larger but younger one was 'Iza', and TBT told me I was keeping my previous Lady's name 'Marley' (because it was "just right").  I learned later that iffen TBT hadnt liked the name the Nice Lady gave me, I would have been named 'Jondalar', some Bein where Ayla and Iza got THEIR names.  I like 'Marley' better.  Shorter...

TBT showed me where the food bowls were, where the litterboxes were, and he held me up so I could see outside (and that I would be able ta go "out" when the weather was warm.  That seemed odd, I had never been "out" before (it turned out ta be a great thing, later).

Ayla was real nice to me.  Iza was a bit unhappy, but I purred a lot and she got used ta me.  TBT explained ta me that I was here ta share the space in love and companionship and I dint have a "job", but I had some "responsibilities" like keep Ayla and Iza peaceable, catch any mousies that got in the house, make sure I used the litterboxes, and not claw up the furniture.

That sounded pretty good.  I was already REALLY happy ta be here,  I'm really peaceable, and clean, and there were great places ta scratch on designed for kitties.

And annyway, TBT has magic fingers...

Best thing what ever happened ta me, getting brought here!  So this day allus means a lot.

Here is a another picture of me in the original small room.  I still like that cave, but I fill it up lots more these days, MOL!

I still like it there, too.
Here I am getting up in the morning when Im sure TBT is really UP for the day...

Life is WUNNERFUL!

Friday Catch Up

Ooh, ya know how ya get an idea fer a post and add stuff ya think of but ferget the ORIGINAL reason fer the post?  Yeah, we did that.

We started the Comment and Questions post earlier this week thinking about a question about Henrietta Hippo.   It was Hugo Hippo.  Sorry we got it wrong before.

And then forgot to explain about that...  So, we are correcting that.

So here are some of the pictures of the January 2011 visit.

Iza taught him how to play" catlike".
Showing how she graps prey.  As a hippo, of course, he was much too large for her.
But she showed "chase from behind"...
Pawing...
And surprise pawing!

Hugo thought this was great information for life in the wild!

Hugo really loved Marley.  Marley was brand new here, and Hugo was the first to know he was here.
Hugo was sent along to the next person on the list he arrived with.  We added a simple memento of the visit (a postcard of Maryland Crabs).  We don't know where he went after that.  We think it was Darling Millie, and he went off into the Quilting Universe from her place...

A Little Catch Up

First, we showed Hugo The Hippo last week.
Some of you remembered him and asked what happened to him.  We sent him off to Darling Millie, but he seems to have disappeared from there into the Quilting Blogosphere.  We tried to get him back, but were not successful.  We very much hope that Hugo is enjoying further travels.

He has special meanin to us as he was the first to greet newcat Marley  HERE!

Hugo left after days of wunnerful visitin

We sure wonder where he is now...  If annyone knows, please tell us about his travels since he left here.

Second, yes Iza went out in the snow.  She decided it was OK after Ayla an Marley did it.  WRONG!  She hates "cold-butt"

We think that's enough researchin fer one day.  So we are gonna go bug TBT fer mid night foods (as in it is nearly 3 AM an we are hungry....  An then sleep a lot.  ON him if possible.

Flashback Werdy Wensday

From 4 years ago...

Hugo arrived on our doorstep this day in 2011.  With PREZZIES!
TBT fed him stuff he hoped he would like (and he did).   Apparently, small hippos love brocolli.
He ate with us.
And was not camera shy.
He loved our sisal ropes but more fer scratchin his behind parts.
Posed nicely.
Loved the Tutu we gave him to wear.
Showed it off a lot, in fact.
Iza and he had long discussions...
And he liked to kiss Marley (who was brand new here at the time). In fact, Hugo met him before WE did.
Do you remember Hugo?

Hugo Continues His Travels

HUGO:  Well, I've had a wonderful visit with The Big Thing, Ayla, Iza and Marley!  I got to see a new kitty enter a household and learn to fit in, I had great food and great fun, I got smooches from all of them at least once, and I slept on a heated waterbed.

Here are a few of the highlights...

And at the departure party last night, I GOT A PRESENT!  They got me a kilt to wear.  Is that cool or what?
Iza assured me that I looked quite handsome...
I got a final smootch from Marley...

But, it is time to be moving along.  My next stop is Darling Millie.  I have enjoyed seeing the snow in Maryland, but she assures me there will be MUCH MORE snow at her place!

Togetherness!

HUGO:

I am pleased at how quickly Ayla, Iza, and Marley are getting along!  Here they are in the cat tree together for the FIRST time...
They all seemed quite calm about it...
Marley wanted to play with Ayla, but she just said "Don't push it"!
So he just relaxed...
The Big Thing called to me to come join them, but by the time I got there, Marley and Ayla had hopped down.

Easy Like Sunday

"Food is our common ground, a universal experience."  James Beard

Things continue to progress well.  Yesterday at dinnertime, Iza and Marley ate together (while Hugo ate some honeydew melon between them)...
Later that evening, with 3 little piles of dry crunchies on the floor, Ayla dashed in to get some.  Then left quickly...
THIS morning, Ayla reluctantly joined Iza and Marley for canned breakfast.  I made sure to offer her favorite (Evo 95% Chicken and Turkey).  Ayla stayed long enough to finish hers...
And, this afternoon, Ayla ate right next Marley!  I was surprised, She doesn't even like to eat this close to Iza...
They have been making progress on the cat tree, too.  But that's for tomorrow...
