TBT Here: Just to let everyone what is going on...
1. Ayla goes to the Vet to make sure her tooth extractions went well an the sutures are dissolving properly. Due to Covid19, they have set up some protective procedures. You call the vet office from the parking lot, they come to the door, you leave the pet, they bring it in, and you wait in your car.
Which is fine if you have a cell phone. I don't, but they said to knock on the door. Sounds like a medieval monastery, LOL! Then they take your credit card number by phone for payment. I suppose they will let me drive home and call from there...
2. Iza's prescribed Welactin omega-3 supplement ran out a few days ago. I took a chance and visited both PetSmart and Petco looking for it. Neither said they ever carried it, which baffled me; I got it somewhere. Then remembered it was from Chewy.
So, I placed an order with Chewy today for the Welactin, and added 2 cases of Friskies Ocean Whitefish&Tuna Dinner. For some reason, The Mews are in love with that right now. I have some other brand/flavors I tried that they don't, but if I mix the 2, they will eat it.
In response to my order, I received a reply saying that things were backed up and it may take 5-8 days delivery instead of the usual 1-2 days. I note that they were careful not specify whether it was at their end or the UPS/Fedex end. So that means it is at their end...
With the new order, I will have about 2 months of food for The Mews. And about the same of litter. And all routine vet visits are complete for the year. So they will be fine.
I'm also posting about mey own situation on the Cavebear's Lair blog (right sidebar, toward the top in RED, but it may take a couple of hours. I don't type fast and I edit/rewrite a lot.
3. My thoughts to all of you with serious lockdowns and restrictions and more serious confirmed and potential cases of CoVid19...

Finally, Outside Again, Part 2
AYLA: First, we are sorry we havent been visiting lately. Things have been kinna busy sometimes, and we were hiding from the noise a lot. We are tryin ta catch up with the posts. TBT says he will help us visit later tonight or tomorrow when we are all feelin calm again. We DONT wanna visit our friends while our tails are still twitchy. Cod only knows what we might say wrong...
So, Wensday afternoon, when we all finally got out again a second time, I watched from the deck. No way I was going out there first (besides, I LIKE stayin on the deck most times annyway). I let Marley and Iza explore, while I watched...
Marley actually went out first. Well, he was ecited. From the deck, it looked like TBT had arranged fer a HUGE pile of litter. But he was disappointed. He meowed back up ta us "Its not what it looks like - its like chunky sawdust").
He was back in "tail-down" mode.
Iza ran down ta check fer herself. As ya can see, they were BOTH a bit disappointed. And they said it smelled kinna odd. Like I couldn't tell THAT from downwind!
But they both felt a need to explore the changes to the yard.
Marley thought the ripped up bare dirt was "pretty inneresting". Lots of rather differnt smells.
Iza decided to walk on the stuff. Its a lovely picture, isnt it? And yes, she "initiated " the pile of wood chips, both #1 and #2. Well, of course ya gotta try both ta see if there is some difference.
She declared "its like leaf litter but better fer covering". Hearing THAT, Marley returned and examined the wood chips with new interest.
He found a spot fer hisself and "used" it.
I may try that myself soon.
Thus ends the story of the tree removal...

New Litter Management
Our friend Zeroichi posted about his litterbox. As we were leaving a comment, we realized that more information (and pictures) would be helpful to our comment. So the subject of todays post is how TBT manages new clean litter!
So here is his "Making It Easy" system fer our litter...
First, he buys our litter in huge 35 lb buckets from Walmart. There is a 27 lb bucket too, but they practically give away the extra 8 lbs.
He has 4 of these (12 lb?) litter containers from "before". Guess which container is easier ta handle and pour from? Good guess!
So he puts the big bucket onna work table and the smaller container on a slightly lower surface (for reasons that will become clear).
The implements of transfer are a scoop an a funnel. The scoop is easy.
It is hard sturdy plastic, and used for LOTS of things. Pet food kibble, gardening, baking, etc. The weerd thing is that the price varies wildly according to what it is sold to scoop. Same scoop, different prices. The scoop sold for pet use is cheapest. TBT got it in the Walmart Pet Dept cheap.
But ya need a funnel too. The opening of the smaller litter container is too narrow fer the scoop. And it needs ta hold a scoopful AND not tip out. Litter is heavy.
So here is the "funnel".
This is a plastic gin bottle with the bottom cut off! The long neck holds it in the container opening, it has capacity, and the square shape is easy to pour into. The smaller container needs to be a bit lower than the big bucket cuz the funnel sticks up a bit. Hint: Hold the funnel for the 1st couple scoops until the container has some weight an can hold itself upright!
Could he just leave the bucket on the floor and scoop from there? Sure, but he says it is lots more convenient ta divide it all once and handle the smaller containers afterwards!
And remember kitties, remind yer Beins that there should be one more litterbox than cats. Unless, of course, ya gotta big wading pool litter box like the Katnip Lounge. MOL!

About The Litter
Marley: I mentioned Wensday that I thought TBT was sellin our used litter an gettin green papers fer it cuz Ayla told me so. Instead, TBT has to PAY to get rid of our "stuff". I am SO embarassed!!! She was having a joke on me. *SIGH*
She does that sometimes. So does Iza, but mostly Ayla. But she seemed SO SINCERE an matter-of-fact about it this time, I fell for it. I cant WAIT ta be a real MANCAT next month an be smarter about things like this!!!
I gotta get her back GOOD fer this one. Cuz, indirectly, she tricked ALL of us. Any ideas? I need a really "grown-up" trick to play on her. Mebbe I'll save it fer my 1st birthday August 16th!

Trash Day!
MARLEY: TBT went on a real tear yesserdy an today. Mowed the lawn, bought new gas for the noisey machines, and empties the garage. Yep. 18 buckets of our litter. I hadn't seen it happen before, Ayla nudged me an said "come with me ta the basement an watch this". She knows stuff, so I did..
He filled the entire noisey machine with our poops an pees! I WONDERED what he did with all that. I was thinking he buried it out back! Huh, who knew?
Well Ayla did. She seen it happen before. She says he brings it to a place where they make new litter of it an gets lots of green papers for it an thats how he supports us. Wow!
So THATS how he affords the noisy machine! We gotta get in on that action. We could get more toys an treats! I mean, he sells it, we should get some back!
Just look!
We are givin it to him fer FREE! We gotta get this right. More treats, at least!
I gotta THINK about this.
