Flashback Friday

This week 2010 this time.  

Ayla and Iza were calm...

There were a LOT of rattley mice (both Ayla and Iza loved them).  

 And sometime in the night, somecat went nuts and wrecked stuff...  Nocat admitted who, but it was impressive!

Today we revisit this week in 2012.  It was Cat Tree Day!

Peace and calm abounded!

I am so glad I bought those 2 fancy cat trees back then!  And the current Mews love them too.  Some of the sisal rope is coming loose now, and I ought try to fix that.  But most of it is still there, and they like playing with the loose ends, so it can wait...

Thankful Thursday

TBT:   Moving the calming collar from Taz to Lori seems to be helping.  I was surprised to see Lori sniff Taz from the floor and then jump up onto my lap.  She sat there peacefully for a while...

And then there was actual bodily contact!

It isn't 100% calm between them.  In the past week, there was 1 fussy between them, and I've heard some low-growling from Lori a couple times at night (and a bit of running sounds), but that is sure a lot different from before!  

I am still a bit suspicious of how much herbs calm cats.  It could just be that after 11 months, they are adjusting to each other finally.  But the coincidence of timing makes me think there might be something in the collar that is helping.

I've been using Feliway for years, and I understand how it works (and it does help), but maybe the calming collar gets Lori just over the top for calmness.  And I have 5 more 30-day collars sealed in plastic bags, so maybe we are good until March.  And maybe by that time, Lori will be used to Taz and Binq and won't need to wear them.

So, for whatever reason the calmness has improved, I am Thankful today!

Thankful Thursday

 TBT:  Lori has not gotten along well with Taz and Binq (from the Shelter last November).  I blamed Taz for most of it, since Lori did most of the yelling and running and he was not far behind her.  It was always hard to see who started the fussings.

I even bought an herbal calming collar and put it on Taz.  It didn't seem to make much of a difference.

But I finally realized that it was Lori initiating all the fusses.  She ambushes Taz.  She abushes Binq.   She whaps both of them just walking past her.  She growls at them.

So I took the calming collar off Taz and put it on Lori.  There have been several days of peace!  I don't really know yet if it is just a random peace or if the calming collar is helping, but I am thankful for the peace so far.  

They actually sat together since then...

Werdy Wensday

TBT:  Since Taz wasn't in the previous bed post, I thought I would show a few when he is.

He hopped up to see where it was safe to nap.  You can see Lori glaring at him.

But he found a spot.  It is always "Marley In The Middle".  LOL!

And there was peace for hours...

The waterbed is sort of neutral territory.  Partly because it is warm and comfy, but also because it is my place at night and these 3 want to be close to me at night.  

Binq is the odd cat out.  I have yet to see her on the bed at night.  When I get up in the morning, she rushes in to seek my attention.  She rubs around my feet, jumps on the bed to get scritchies and strokes, and meows at me for even more attention.

But among the other Mews, it is "Peace, glorious peace"...

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful for when The Mews all eat together peacefully (and staying at their own bowls).  It means they are all happy and getting along.  

It is not always so peaceful.  Sometimes Lori and Taz fuss at each other, so Lori wants to eat by herself in a corner.  And sometimes Binq wants to eat all the food.

But when I see them eating together, that is a good sign of a peaceful night to come...

I am always thankful to see cats at rest.  There is such a calmness about them.

Loki and Binq get along so well.  

Peace is good...  And when Marley is on my lap, it feels like "peace doubled".

Caturday Saturday

TBT:   An update on The Mews.  Marley is, of course, completely calm about The New Mews.  

Loki is eating normally now and his eyes seem clear of infection.  He follows me around the house everywhere, sits on my lap sometimes, and is usually on the bed next to me at night.    He still coughes/sneezes sometimes, but much less than previously.  But he really seems to like me!

Binq has adopted The Mews Room as her regular spot, but she is "out and about" half of the day.  She is a very active play-cat.  I need to sort out all the cat toys into trays so I can notice which she prefers.  But she likes most.  She is still grabby (and slightly bitey), but I can deal with that.  I'm glad the Vet clipped her claws at the recent visit, though.  That makes things easier.  And she eats anything. And she likes being near me too!  

Binq and Loki are very relaxed around me and together.

The best news is that Lori is finally calming down.  I suppose she still isn't "thrilled" about the "intruders", but a few hisses a day is a lot better than constant hisses.  I'm not sure whether she is adjusting to Loki and Binq as family, or just becoming resigned to the new situation.

Lori is still friendly to Marley.  She is friendly to me.  I have been careful to give her attention; when she stretches up my leg to seek scritchies, I give her a lot.  She's still not happy though.  She hasn't come up on my lap even when no other Mews is there.  And she has only come onto the bed at night recently when The Intruders are there.  I'm sure that will change...

But she seems to be adjusting slowly.  I didn't realize she would have this trouble.  She had no problem with Marley.  She had no problem with Ayla.  She had no problem with Laz (until he lost his mind again after her first year).

I really thought she would love to have other friendly easy-going kitties around.  Her very negative reaction was a bit of a surprise to me.  She spends more time in a cat tree hut.  But I think it is going to work out.  Calmer is good.

Easy Like Sunday

LOKI:  My furst post.  Marley hepped me wit this som.  Teachin me werds.  Happy here.  Love big house.  Fewer kitties and is free of loaud barki dogs.  I was deafend at tye shelter.

Glad Binq came wif me.  We were frens at shelter.  TBT saw that and took us both away here.  Better food, caln, not-noisey.  

Sleep wif BT every nite.  Hes warm.  Get lots scritchies.  All peace.  Binq an me spent time of the lap.

We think we will like it here.

Thursday Mews Update

TBT:   Things are too unsettled for my regular posts, so I think I will just keep adding stuff here all day and post it at midnight!

Late last night - Binq came out of The Mews Room suddenly and followed me around a bit.  She was less "clawy".  She ate food normally.

Loki was napping on the bed when I got in.  He stayed there for a couple hours.  I still haven't seen him eat much.  I can't think of anything to feed him that I haven't already tried.  I guess he will eat when he decides to.

9 AM - Called the vet.  Appointments for Monday 12-4.  Warned the Vet that I'll be bringing all the documents from the shelter and they will have to figure out what each cat needs.  LOL!  I read them, but won't make any decisions.  Sometimes it is safest to play "stupid".  The Vet knows best.  I'm sure they have seen these partial shelter documents before.

A surprise among the shelter documents...  The hand-written notes clearly say "Binq" but the printed ones say "Binx".  Not that she cares.  And I'm calling her "Binq" anyway.  Cool odd name...  Well, as she is black and was clawy, I considered "Vader".  LOL!  But I think she will stay "Binq".  

10 AM - Realized I haven't heard Loki sneeze since last night.  Maybe it was just new smells or nervousness.  Binq is out of The Mews Room more.  Lori is hissing less but remains very suspicious.  I have some leftover calming Fluoxetine pills from Laz and gave her one last night and will continue for a few days.  I have about 20 more pills.  If it was safe for Laz, it is safe for Lori.

Marley is not eating his kidney care food as happily as previously, but that may just his way of showing concerns about the new Mews.  Other than that, he seems calm enough.  When he gets hungry, he will eat.  He liked the stuff before.

Marley and Lori are micro-chipped and Loki and Binq are too, but I think I have to contact Home Again about the names and my new ownership or to complete the registration.  And I have an issue with Home Again that I will address in the future...

But things are utterly calm here among the 4.  So I am going grocery+gas shopping.  Safeway gives me 10 cents off per gallon per $100 purchased and I have 3 credits that will expire tomorrow.  Might as well fill the tank.  And they give free shots.  Got my flu and covid ones before, but they give the RSV senior one too.  And a 10% discount on food purchases for each.

12 PM - Everycat seemed calm when I returned.  So I processed some pictures.  Not all them are great.  Binq is going to be hard to photograph.  But here they are...

Yay!  I'll have to be careful about names for a while, though.  I typed "Laz" twice in this post.  😧

2 PM - I really need to vacuum up all that cardboard fluff!  But I don't want to scare Binq with the vacuum...  I need to lure her out again.  Loki has discovered "under the bed".  It isn't actually "under".  But it is under the "bookcase headboard overhang" and everycat has always liked being there.

And time to feed The Mews.  I hope Loki will eat something...  I think I will thaw out one of the small chunks of poached chicken breast and try that.  Chicken isn't all a cat needs, but it is better than nothing.  And if I get him eating that, he may get his appetite working properly again.  

3 PM -  Wearing my heaviest jeans, I played with Binq for a while.  Apparently, if I am standing, she wants to climb me.  But if I sit, she is much easier and just wants strokes and scritchies.  Loki is utterly calm and likes just routine attention.  

5 PM -Loki has a 1 PM appointment with the Vet tomorrow.  He isn't eating and I don't think it is just stress now.  He also has goopy eyes.  The Vet desk person was able to fit him into their schedule.

8 PM -Binq almost jumped on my lap.  I could tell she was considering it.  Bot Lori hissed nearby and she backed away.  Binq will, someday soon.  She did jump up on the waterbed with me.
