We Got Our Squillion Kitty!
We are so thrilled that our Squillion kitty arrived today! You can see "Lightpaw Laplander" on the sidebar. He is SO handsome with his green fur! We hadda make sure he didnt look ezactly like any one of us (envy issues).

Sleepy Tuesday and Aquarium Interest
AYLA:
First, I is feeling kinna normal again. Fanks fer all the kitty purrs, they helped!
We were all feelin like catchin up on sleep. Skeeter an me were sleepin in a lot. LC was sleepin unner the bed so she didnt get her picture took.
An The Big Thing's feet hurt efry time I jumped down from the top of the fishie tank, so he put a "thing to sit on" on both sides. He is so nice!
So here is pictures of us sleepin an me watching the fishies from the new sittin place: I cant do this picure an word stuff yet.
Oh, BTW, yer lookin at the back side of the fishie tank, that has a pretty picture inside. It's just not pretty on the back. So I am lookin in the sides where I can see all the fishies!

AYLA’S DAY/Monday13
"No Picture Day"… Really, stuff that happened when The Big Thing didnt have the camera ready...
1. I found the toy bowl again. The Big Thing had moved it. Not far enough. I crashed it offa the shelfs!
2. Favorite toy is softie mouse. I like the pompoms and rattly mousies, but this one is just nothin but cloth an no stuffins. The Big Thing looked at it a while an decided it was efen older than Skeeter! Probly usedta have catnip init, but no one members anymore. I carry it all aroun the place…
3. Next best toy is rattle ball. It moves great an makes noise alla time.
4. I’m still in heat. 8 days now. I am so tired sometimes, but so wound up others. Playing wif toys helps…
5. Speakin a which, I ALMOST got out tonight! I watch Skeeter an LC get to go out annytime they want and it drivin me crazy! So I’d waited til Skeeter showed up at the door an hid all quiet unner the table. When the door was opened, I jumped. But Skeeter is so big he hadda whole opening blocked an I crashed inna him an he whappoed me. The The Big Thing grabbed me again. ARGH! PLEASE LET ME OUT!
6. I’ve been hidin my toys better, but not perfect. The Big Thing found 12 unner the easy chair, 5 unner the new TV stand, an 6 unner the wine cooler (he dint even think of that til I made a mistake an let him see me stuff one unner there). He found a couple inna basement I hadn’t efen remembered about! I gotta remember that he is ‘sperienced…
7. I surprised him today. He was walkin round talkin inta a little ear box thingy and when he looked up I was starin down at him from the tippy top of a ladder! Ha-ha-ha. Coulda jumped on him!
8. I get up on trhe fishie tank too! Twice my most stretched up height! When I jump down to the wood floors it sounds so hard it makes his feet hurt. Doesn’t bother me anny!
9. I discovered windowsills! They are these neat behind-cloths-things where ya can see outside! Really! The Big Thing hides them from us I think!
10. Milk, oh discovered milk! Yum! An egg yolk! An BACON! The Big Thing made a “break fast” for a 1st time since I got here. LC likes egg yolks. Too. We shared (briefly).
11. Wine glass, sniffed it. Yuck!
12. Got more medicine. Yuck on that too!
13. Been likin the top of the kitty condo. Skeeter only likes the lower levels an LC doesn’t like it at all.

I've had this piece of tree trunk in the basement for a decade. It was to be a "soft anvil" for chisel work, but it turned out I didn't do any of that. So, I've decided to bring it upstairs for a cat scratching post... It is amazing how a piece of tree trunk will last unblemished and undeteriorated when kept dry and safe from insects!

Ayla Update
The Big Thing:
Ayla isn't a happy kitty right now. Skeeter and LC aren't real happy either and getting tense (though we are all trying to be understanding). It's not Ayla's fault after all. And I could use a good night's sleep.
Background: Ayla had her ladygardenectomy Jan 16th, at age 7 months. In spite of that, she went into heat Feb 3-9 and started it again Feb 18th (still going strong). It seems that there was some problem with the operation, but we won't know what until a followup operation is done.
There are some complications from the 1st operation. Ayla has an infection at the scar site, and she has blood in her urine (according to our own regular vet). She is getting twice daily antibiotics and we are waiting for blood test results about hormone levels and the blood problem.
I spoke to the vet today who did the operation. He has done 70,000 spay/neuter operations. He says that sometimes mature cats can go into heat for 6 weeks after the operation under certain timings so I should wait to see if it happens a 3rd time.
The spay vet says he will certainly do a follow-up operation at no cost if Ayla goes into heat a 3rd time. I feel badly about putting her through that again (if necessary) when she is finally healing from the 1st spay operation, but it would be best in the long term.
Ayla should be out of heat in a couple of more days. If anykitty wants to send Ayla some calming purrs and thoughts, we would sure appreciate it. She has spent the past 2 nights in the basement during this, and it is tearing me up to do that. But I can't sleep otherwise and Skeeter and LC are getting real whappy and even bitey to her, especially at night...
[Amended to add that Ayla slept on my bed last night without disturbing me though she has had a few yowling episodes today (Saturday)]

I took a picture of Skeeter usin the litterbox an posted it on our bloggie! Hes ben tryin ta get back at me ever since.

What do your salt and pepper shakers look like?
I don’t use them, but there are some sittin aroun. One kind is tall brown wood cylinders wif tops that turn too drop the stuff out the bottom. The other kind is a bunch of laminated cicles all different colors all glued together. Theyre real pretty. I think they would make good toys if I could get to them.

Where is the next place you plan to visit (on vacation or business)?
When it gets warm again, I plan to visit the big pond and acquire some froggies. YUM - I mean “for research purposes only”!
Main Course
What kind of lotion or cream do you use to keep your hands from getting too dry?
I like to go direct to the problem. When my paws feel a bit dry, I go straight to the never-ending waterbowl and splash around in the water. They are immediately “not dry”.

Again? Already?
LC: I don't believe it! Ayla, the once-spayed kitty, has gone into "heat" again (2nd time!)...
(Due to the nature of this post, I wont be postin any pictures. It might be disturbin to Beins an kittens)
She was spayed Jan 16th, went into heat Feb 3-9, and was back in it yesterday! Mouse-droppings, just after 10 days? Skeeter is confused by it. Ayla keeps floppin infront of him, sniffin him, crawlin along the floor, and "presenting". It makes me kinna 'mbarrassed, cause I vaguely recall doing that myself when I was a kitten before my own operashun.
Its kinna funny though. Skeeter (though he had his own "doodad operation" as a kitten) sometimes tried to get at me "that way" fer years when I wasnt innerested innit. I didnt mind until he got bitey on my neck (an nothin ever "happened"). Now that he sees the real thing, he doesn't know what ta do... MOL!
Seriously, Ayla offers and Skeeter hisses or runs away. Just like a guy...
Is ben a weerd day. Ayla got took to our regular V-E-T fer tests, she has ta take those "anti-biotics", an she hadda sleep in the basement las night cause we were all goin crazy from the noise (Meezer girlkitties in heat yowl like a cross between colicky Bein babies an hungry seals, with a little tortured banshee in the mix).
I'm probly gonna pay for this post ('mbarrassin Skeeter), but its worth it. I dont get a "whap" at him like this very offen...
BTW, it is snowin! Deep enough to brush my belly fur if I went out innit! First (second?) time this cold season!

Three Cats Together
SKEETER: When Ayla was hafin her big day outside, LC and I were out there too. An we were inna coupla the pictures. But there were some with all 3 of us in them, which The Big Thing thought was a very BIG deal. An we hadda couple of all of us inside, so we decided to save them fer this post.
We were all near the little pond here. That bucket is for leafs The Big Thing was scoopin out of the pond.
LC is starin at the pond fishie. There useta be 3, but 2 disappeared (no, we didnt catch them). I went over ta show Ayla some of the (dead for now) plants. Their good ta sniff an rub on.
We had collected aroun The Big Thing, but here we are all wanderin off the same direction...
They wandered off faster than I did. I found somethin good ta sniff (mousie smells).
LC and Ayla went back ta the little pond. I dont see what is so innerestin about it. I think LC was tellin Ayla about drinkin from it.
Later, we all had dinner together. The Big Thing is happy ta see us all eatin together finally.
I was bothered before cause Ayla kept tryin ta eat outta my bowl instead of her own. But she is learnin better manners now.

Outside without a Harness!
Skeeter and LC get to go out wifout harnesses annytime they want. I been tryin to get out since the first time. Most times, The Big Thing picks me up when he opens the door for them to keep me in.
But it was real warm today, and he carried me outside when Skeeter an LC went out! Yippee! :)
My first time out wif no harness!
Slunk off the lawn – kinna scarey… Lawn is unnatural!
Found rocks to walk on!
Went back up on the deck to look aroun and sniff.
But after a while, an watching Skeeter and LC out there, I came back down.
And finally stepped off onna lawn. Its not so bad…
I looked in the pond wif LC. Theres a fishie in it!
I found a hard path to walk on, though. That still feels more normal.
Skeeter joined me on the path an showed me some plants an stuff…
I came back on the lawn to go to The Big Thing.
On the way, LC stopped and she LICKED me once!!! Shes nefer did that befor.
I was a bad girl, though. When The Big Thing called me to come in, I wouldn’t go. I just kept running aroun out of his reach. But it was worth it. While I was on the patio, a birdie came an flew RIGHT INTO the glass door. I ran right over and even got to touch it befor it flew away. I tried to get it when it sat on a rail fer a minnit, but it went far away! But I touched a real live birdie. It gots fevvers! So THATS why I like fevvery things. Who knew?
I finally went in, but not fer a while! Im gonna be onna harness again nex time. :(

And I'm on the "Do Not Call" list, so the telemarketers are the people I HAVE to do business with (phone company, cable company, car insurance, bank, etc - they're allowed to call because of "business relations"). Prediction! In a few years, your regular businesses (like the above) will be contracted to call you on behalf of the prohibited ones, negating the "Do Not Call" law.

None. Happily retired. I HAD a lot of responsibilty when I had a career, but I don’t miss it a bit. None. Happily retired. I HAD a lot of responsibilty when I had a career, but I don’t miss it a bit. I WAS the highest level person exclusively managing telecommunications policy at a US Gummint agency. If they ruined the telecommunications after I left in March 2006, I really don’t care (that’s THEIR problem now).

Observing Ayla...
The Big Thing: Things are some good and some difficult…
1. I am finally getting to know Ayla now that she is not in heat AND getting used to the house (and Skeeter and LC).
A – Ayla is a lovey kitty and likes to sit on my shoulder when I am in a chair.
B – Or on my chest with her paws holding me.
C – Or draped on my lap with her eyes closed and her head upside down.
D – Purring loudly.
E – She has taken to sleeping with me curled up in any crook of arms or legs she can find.
F – Purring loudly.
2. She loves to knock things off any surface.
A – Eyeglasses
B – Brushes
C – Tools
D – Anything smaller than she is
3. She digs into anything and loves to scatter it. LC plays with water; Ayla plays with particles..
A – Houseplant soil
B – My container of vermiculite
C – Kitty litter
D – Sawdust
4. Ayla loves all toys, even things that aren’t meant to be toys.
A – Soft fuzzy balls
B – Hard balls
C – Rattly things
D – Skittery things
E – Smelly socks
F – Kleenex
G – A roll of toilet paper
5. Ayla is inquisitive.
A – loves to watch Skeeter pee
B – And me
C – Sniffs where LC has been sitting
D – Stares at me/studies me when I walk around
6. Ayla eats anything edible (hungry hungry hippo) and as much as Skeeter and LC combined
A – The Purina they are used to
B – The Fancy Feast they love
C – The “healthy stuff” (Merrick) they don’t like yet (I’m adjusting Skeeter and LC to that 10% per week)
7. She desprately wants to get outside to explore (wrong time of year, but I think she can go out on a harness tomorrow)
8. Ayla loves to mess with moving cats and Beins
A - run an inside corner whenever Skeeter or LC are walking around a corner.
B – And when I am or even just walking down a hallway
C – She runs under my feet when I’m not expecting a cat is there.
D – She plays “tag Skeeter’s tail” a lot
9. I find myself with pockets full of cat toys all the time
A – She has an expectant look that I will always toss her a toy
B – I love to watch her chase and beat up toys
C – She has actually destroyed some cat toys
D – She often brings them to me for more tossing
E – I think that if I tossed a toy on the house roof, she would get it (somehow) and bring it back

AYLA: I found some neat stuff to play with! The Big Thing is always moving my toys around, so sometimes I find stuff where I didnt leave it. That's always 'citin! An sometimes I find stuff to play with that I didnt reeliz before were toys... They are often on the warm softy bed.
1.
I remember this thing, I pushed it offa table a few days ago.
2.
It isnt much fun to play with. Kinna hard and unchewy.
3.
And it doesnt move very good.
4.
But when I jumped up later, I found somethin NEW.
5.
I floofed... First time!
6.
It was almos as big as me an it was all furry!
7.
I attacked it a buncha times.

Givin up on it...

Finally I just hadda lie down, all worn out and lasery-eyed. I was SO 'cited!

Oh, LC jus tole me I should add a wish of "Hapy Valentine Day" to efryone. She said it is a day to wish "girl an boy kitty" friendliness. Since I like girl an boy kitties, that seems good... She said I should know bout that cause of my recent "excitement", but I'm not sure what she means. She sometimes has a sneaky look on her face when she tells me stuff (an I think she makes stuff up). But Skeeter said wishin Valentines was an OK thing.

A Cozy Spot...
Skeeter:
I found a good cozy spot in the bedroom closet.
I fit perfectly into it...
It even has a perfect low thing to rest my head on.
Its not as soft as the warm bed, but it is quiet and I dont get disturbed by "some kitty" who runs around like she's onna triple nip binge! Sigh, I'm gettin too old fer all this activity.
Like, I was nappin on the lowest level of the kitty condo yersterday. Ayla jumped on the lowest level to the middle to the top an down again. She jumped on me both ways!!! OK, shes not THAT heavy, but I cant take this. At least shes not yowlin alla time annymore...
