The Twelve Cats of Christmas
On the first day of Christmas
When I brought home my tree
My precious cats were laughing at me
On the second day of Christmas
I saw beneath my tree
2 mangled garlands and
My precious cats a laughing at me
On the third day of Christmas
I saw beneath my tree
3 missing wise men
2 mangled garlands and
My precious cats a laughing at me
On the fourth day of Christmas
I saw beneath my tree
4 males a-spraying
3 missing wise men
2 mangled garlands and
My precious cats a laughing at me
On the fifth day of Christmas
I saw beneath my tree
5 shredded gifts
4 males a-spraying
3 missing wise men
2 mangled garlands and
My precious cats a laughing at me
On the sixth day of Christmas
I saw beneath my tree
6 fallen angels
5 shredded gifts
4 males a-spraying
3 missing wise men
2 mangled garlands and
My precious cats a laughing at me
On the seventh day of Christmas
I saw beneath my tree
7 half-dead rodents
6 fallen angels
5 shredded gifts
4 males a-spraying

More Mousies!
Skeeter: The Big Thing caught another mousie with the peanut butter trap, and it was my turn to get it! LC grabbed it, but I just went over an took it away.

It's a little fuzzy cause I was shaking the mousie. It wasn't dead an it didn't want me to eat it. Isn't that what they're for?
I was worried I wouldn't get another house-mouse. The rule is that if we hear the snap and The Big Thing gets it right away, we can have it. If it is all dead and all dark old, we can't. But when that happens, he gives us some wet good stuff, so that's OK. LC and I heard the snap the dark before, but The Big Thing wouldn't get up even when we both ran in to the sleepy room and woke him up and told him there was a mousie caught. He was just too sleepy to understand us then. We might as well been talking to the mouse!
At least he checked the traps when he got up, so we got some treats when he threw it away. We think he should only have the traps set when he is there to hear it! But he doesn't seem to understand how important the mousies are to us...

Ha Ha, I got it first!
LC: SNAP! He jumped and I did too. The Big Thing caught a mousie! An for some reason, he doesn't like to eat them, so we get them when they are fresh-dead! I was closest. He caught it an tossed it on the floor. An I grabbed it an ran away with it. Skeeter followed me, but I wouldn't let him have any of it.
Skeeter was real upset and took it away from me, but the The Big Thing picked him up and promised him the next mousie. That seems fair. I don't get as many mousies as he does. Skeeter got scratched until he nearly passed out. So it balances. Next mousie, Skeeter has it and I get scratched. An I'll have to watch him play with it an eat it. But I'll get scratched all over and unner the chin, an I really like that! Good as a mousie. An The Big Thing will make sure I have no ticksies on me, too. I have had 2 of them since the last Big Moon, so it is a good thng he checks me all over.
But I want another mousie!

There WAS A Mousie!
Skeeter: The Big Thing staggerred up early yesterday, and saw I was sniffering arund the main chair we sit in. He just laughed. But I knew there was a mousie in there and I wanted it!
When I kept at it, The Big Thing got curious and lifted the bottom of the sheet he covers the chair with. No mousie. Then he lowered the top. No mousie. By then, I was disgusted and walked away.
Then he pulled the whole thing off (and scared me half out of a life). And there was the mousie! It was ahold of the middle of the front! The Big Thing thought that covering it for a second would cause it to stay there while he got my attention back.
He sure doesn't know the first thing about mousies! I knew it was gone the instant it was covered. But I gave it my best try anyway. I'll bet it is hiding inside the rockey-chair. I can smell it all over the chair! An I have to sit on his lap smelling that mousie smell all over.
He's not entirely stupid, though. Close, but without the necessary kitty characteristics. He brought out some traps and used peanut butter (awful stuff, but mousies like it). I think he is going to try to catch them in his own way.
He lifteded up the top of his cooking place and he found little mousie shits there. That made him really annoyed.
I tried to remind him before it was getting cold outside and mousies like warm places too, but he wasn't listening. Now he is listening... LOL!
He is going about catching mousies. An he sure is good at it. He gets them in places we can't reach. He uses these things that break their necks like we do, only more sudden and faster. For a Big Thing that is pretty stupid sometimes, he is really lethal! I have to remember that!
Well, he reached into the nasty place under the kitchen sink and brought out 4 things of wood and metal to catch mousies. They work; I've seen it. I don't how. The Big Thing gives us the mousies though, an we have fun with them. We usually eat them.
Bet a clean litterbox that we get a mousie or two by light!

Alone!
Skeeter: The Big Thing went away in early light yesterday and stayed away til way dark. I hope that doesn't mean he is back to that old stuff where he was gone all light! And he returned smelling of a strange kitty! He better not be getting ready to replace us or bring a stranger into the cave!
I didn't have a lap to sit on all light, an I don't like that. He is supposes to sit at least sometime while I get all warm and cozy-safe on him. That's his main purpose, right? Well, and food, and opening the clear hard thing, and litterbox-cleaning. He doesn't have anything else to do important!
The early light was bad enough. Some horrible noisy thing went off and The Big Thing practically leaped off the warm softy thing to try to kill it. He knocked me right off where I was sleeping on him! He slapped at it several times before it shut up. But then he didn't crawl back under the blankies like he should have.
He stayed up and even went under the water (as he does so often - crazy Big Things...). When I realized he was up for the light, I dragged myself into the part of the cave he was in. LC ghad been sleeping on the furry floor of the cave, but she came in too. WOW, he's opening dinner! Early! We gobbled it right up. I thought at first that we had missed the normal dark time dinner before and that was why he got up so suddenly, but I decided we had that. LC agreed. So we decided to stop thinking and just eat.
That's when he left the cave suddenly. He took food (we could smell it even over our food dishes), a few nasty crinkly-sounding bags (I hate those) and even a table and some things he sits on. Then he disappeared in the noisy smelly machine.
ALL LIGHT!
We just slept and wandered around the empty cave. Then it became the dark again, and he hadn't returned. I was getting worried. I mean, what if he sent himself to a human vet and *wasn't coming back*... LC went back to sleep on the warm softy thing, but I wasn't having any of that. I went to nap on the place where The Big Thing sits when he makes a lap. I know what is important to ME!
Well, of course he did come back. And we got a 2nd dinner! And then we got to go outside even though it was all dark. It was good, but it was cold and windy, so we didn't stay out long.
Then I got to sit on his lap. Finally! LC even sat next to us. He explained that he had gone a long way away to visit his own family. His litter-mates, if I understand right, but we didn't know he had any. He said he had a wonderful time, even though he missed us very much. And that there was a friendly kitty where he went that was very happy in its own place. That seemed strange to me. I mean, how could any kitty be happy not with The Big Thing in our cave! But we don't want any strange kitties here, so we let that pass.
He says he brought us a treat. Tommorow, we will get a big turkey bone to chew on an bat around! Kewl! I may even forgive him for the strange kitty smells he brought back...

Bad Words
LC: Ooh, we realized last dark (Skeeter and I talking between ourselfs and reading the comments to our posts) that we may have gotten "bad" Big Thing words mistaken. We think that "bad words" are anything the Big Thing says REALLY LOUD! "LOUD" seems bad to us. When he says things LOUD, that is "bad words" because it upsets us.
For example, if we hear our names said REALLY LOUD by The Big Thing, that is a "bad word"...

Floodie, Part 2
Skeeter: We're still upset about all the water in our cave. The Big Thing sucked up all that he could, but it still doesn't smell right down around our litterboxes. Even The Bg Thing isn't happy about the smells. An he is kittenly lame about that.
So he has a lot of work to do befor we are happy around the litterboxes. We have been demandeding to "go" out a lot the past two lights and even darks. He is scraping and shoving a hard brushy thing around, but it isn't good enough yet.
If he doesn't get it all OK again real soon, he may find a surprise in his foot-covers! But we are doing the best we can. LC peed down the hole in the "shower" and I get as close to the driest litterbox I can when I don't want to go outside (it is cold and windy).
The Big Thing is unhappy about this, too. He says he may have to dis-ass-emble things (a work-bench and panels?) to get everything all clean again. He was so unhappy last night (even after eating meat!), I stuck my head up under his chin and LC (almost) came onto his lap.
Maybe I wouldn't even mind too much if he started that awful blowy thing going again. It does make the wet go away...

The Floodie
Skeeter: An you wouldn't believe all the stuff that the water dragged down to our yard! There are branches and more branches. Big wood things. Leaves that could cover me! The water was way deeper than I am tall. The Big Thing went out in the horriblest of it and tried to make the water go away, but he couldn't. An he was shivering real bad.
When he came back inthe cave, he squeezed and shook water off himself for the longest time. Then he took off his furs ans squeezed more water out of them. It was terrible. I don't know how he could stand it at all!
But then he put on dry fur, and laughed and called us to him for some treats. We liked that, and it made us feel better about all that water. I climbed up on his lap and helped him fall asleep. LC stayed nearby to protect him. When I had to go use the one dry litterbox, LC sat closer to him. He doesn't know that, though. I was back on his lap when he waked. He is so quiet and warm whem he sleeps...

Ooh, Picturie-Things
LC: The Big Thing took pictures of our floodie.

It was worse at one time, but the rain was falling so hard The Big Thing couldn't even take his picture thingy outside. It was pounding on him like he couldn't stand!
He worked and worked to get the nasty water out of our cave. He got most of it out, but he used a wind thing to make most of it go back into the air:

But it was really bad before he did that:

We couldn't get near the litterboxes at all!

Water, Water, Effrey Where!
Skeeter: It rained so hard the past (one... two...) yes, "two" lights! The ground was all soaky-wet already, so I guess the rain had no where to go. It decided to come into the bottom of our cave!
That has happened before, slightly, but it never caused us any problems. But this time, it surrounded our litterboxes. :(
The Big Thing didn't suspect a problem. When the little leaks caused a problem before (he says), the rain came over the roof gutters and we could see it pouring down. But that didn't happen this time. Well, The Big Thing had gone up and cleaned the gutter-things all out (piles of good wet smelly leaves). So when he went into the basement to clean out our litterboxes, he was very surprised to find water effrey where!
We hadn't been able to get to the litterboxes and we had to do the closest we could. LC and me didn't like that, but is a kitty supposed to walk in water to get at them? No sirree!
Well, he did the best he could, too. He walked into the water and got the cleanest litterbox onto a dry place we could reach and started up chasing all the water away. Some of it, he used a special wet sucky thing on. He said a lot of words we almost NEVER hear from him, too...
I tried to help by pushing on some of the wet kitty litter that had been pushed out, but that got stuck in my paws. He brought me upstairs to the dry area and cleaned them (saying more of those bad words). Then he gave me some treats and told me to stay upstairs.
LC and I listened to the sucky thing going on for a whole naptime. The Big Thing really was unhappy. Apparently, he has to fight with the wet sucky thing to get it to do what it should! Maybe he should feed it more often so it wouldn't be angry and fighty.
Our whole front yard (where we don't go but can see through hard clear things) was a big lake. Even the hard flat place where Big Things drive their noisy things was covered deeper than I am tall! Maybe that's why he doesn't make/let us go out there! It seemed really wet and dangerous.
Today at first light, The Big Thing went down and looked for stray water. It seems our litterboxes are in the deepest remaining water and that really annoyed him. He set up a thing that spins and blows air like wind. The water is slowly going away, so it must not like wind (and we don't either).
Meanwhile, The Big Thing has been keeping our only dry litterbox really clean, and we appreciate that. But he does have poop to clean up in places when he didn't know we were having trouble reaching our litterboxes. I'll be glad when he does. I don't like smelling that, either. We were sure both happy to get outside and do our business there where we can bury it better!
And he has given us more treats the past 2 lights! I suppose it balances out...

That Cold Pink Stuff...
Hey kitties, The Big Thing here: I really hate having to squirt that cold pink stuff down Skeeter's and LC's throats... They really hate it. I don't enjoy it either. I feel sad when they are upset. They aren't used to me grabbing them but I have had to. I just don't do that. It has always been trust and shared space in our cave. So they are upset. But for the last 2 weeks, I have had to force them to take some anti-bi-otics. Their recent blood tests show either an inflammation of their kidneys or a loss of general kidney function from old age and we have to find out which it is... They don't even know yet that they will have to go back to the Vet for another blood test (and none of you kitties try to tell them either). I just won't let them know!
The anti-bi-otics they sufferred me giving them the past half big moon are going to solve their problem and that's all there is to it! We all KNOW that, right? They are both going to be OK...
I have to call the vet next light and make an appoint-ment for us to visit him in a couple more lights. And he will tell me everything is OK. Then we can get back to enjoying our cave and the places inside and outside within The Wall.
Turning things back over to Skeeter and LC... :)

One More Pink Squirt And...
LC: And I'm gonna start throwing claws around! I'm getting really tired of it. Skeeter hardly runs away anymore whenever The Big Thing gets "that look", but I do. The Big Thing is getting really tricky. He starts to open the Big Hard Clear Thing just a bit, and I go running for that.
Even when Skeeter gets "the dose", I still want to get outside. Well, why shouldn't I. If I'm outside, he can't get me for a awhile. But now he grabs me in mid-jump! It's just not fair. He is far more tricksier than I am. GRR.
He apologizes every time (I think he really doesn't want to do this). But that's his problem! I sure don't want him to do it either and that doesn't stop him...
How does he catch me under my body every time? I can't get any claws at him. He is smooth!
On the other paw, he found a tickie under Skeeter's chin. Skeeter had been scratching at it. The Big Thing just "knew" it was there. I didn't know and Skeeter says he didn't either! He just turned Skeeter over on his back one day and went right for it! Picked it out all legs and all, too. Skeeter says he feels lots better there under the chin.
So, the next day, The Big Thing is scratching me and says "uh-oh". Oh mouse-droppings, I had just gotten over the morning "pink stuff" squirt. But sure enough, he found a tickie thing under my chin, too. I didn't even know it was there! I hated bing upside down, but he just spread some of my fur around and found it. He has the most amazing claws. I dunno how he does it!
He just spreads some fur carefully and finds them. Then he grabs them some little metal thing (I can smell the metal) and pops it right off. It feels weird hurts a little when he does it, but it feels so good afterwards!
I still want to get away afterwards because I hate being upside down and feeling all helpless and all. But I can feel the spot where the thing was and it isn't there anymore. That's cool!
I won't admit it at the time, but I give him a lot of dark attention later. He seems to like it when I wake him up all dark (well he scratches me, so he must). Skeeter sometimes gets under the blankies The Big Thing crawls under, and looks for any tickies, but he never finds any. But it is worth checking. Some tickie from The Big Thing might get on US, so we want to be careful.

Couldn't Get Out, and Then I wanted IN!
LC: So, The Big Thing went away almost all day. He just does that sometimes! He came back to the cave at first dark. So what happens? The Tree fur starts falling in waves. I mean, I was even watching them and I couldn't avoid them.
The Big Thing had scared the heck out of us by using some nasty sweeping thing that pushed all the tree-fur off the deck. But at least it was empty after that and we went back out. Then all of a sudden the tree-fur fell everywhere again. I couldn't avoid it! I ran round and round but the trees still threw stuff at me. I hid under the shelter The Big Thing Made for us, but I finally ran inside.
Oh mouse-droppings. I don't like to hide from anything, but all that was just too much! Better to be in the cave looking out than to be outside with it. And The Big Thing had dinner waiting. Can't miss dinner, or Skeeter will eat it all. He is a bottomless pit. Sometimes, I think his legs are hollow.

Serious Sucky Day!
Skeeter: What a day. The Big Thing woke up and immediately shoved the pink awful stuff down my throat. I couldn't help it, he caught me be surprise. He is usually up longer before he does that. I immediately went and hid in the basement. He just laughs when I run away after he does that, but it makes some sense to ME! He might do it again...
LC seems to not mind so much. I think that is weird. It is just WRONG to like anything banananana smelling! Besides, I don't want anything forced in my mouth, not even tuna. And I LIKE tuna.
The Big Thing says we are almost done with the awful cold pink anti-bi-otics. 3 more lights to go of that stuff. I'm getting ready to starting biting, and I don't bite The Big Thing!
It gets complicated. I'm ready to bite him about the cold pink stuff, but he found that tick under my chin I couldn't scratch off and he removed it! All of it, and no hair pulled AT ALL! How does he do that? He even let me sniff it afterwards (it smelled a lot like me)!? And then he killed it. I liked that.
I felt lots better afterwards. I mean, my chin didn't itch anymore. So, I don't know. Maybe that cold pink stuff is good for me too.
I think I will still fight him about that, though. It is really cold and it tastes nasty. He should make it tuna-flavored...

A Treed (well, poled) Squirrel
LC: I trapped a squirrel up the bird feeder! The Big Thing has 2 squirrel baf-fuls below the place where he puts birdie seeds. A squirrel tried to get up past them. It stuck its little ratty head into the lower baf-ful and couldn't see around itself, so I ran right over.

The silly thing crawled up into the round part and I just sat there waiting for it to fall.
And waited and waited and waited...
It tried to come down the pole a couple of times, but it saw me there. I waited a long time, but The Big Thing finally opened the dinner can of good wet smelly stuff and I went inside to eat.
The Big Thing did something funny though. He went out and hit the squirrel baf-ful with a metal thing. Wow, did that squirrel ever run out fast! I wish I had been under the bird-feeder then, but I was still cleaning my paws.

Strange Big Things!
LC: Sorry we haven't posted for a few lights. The Big Thing didn't turn on the computer, so we couldn't use it.
Well, The Big Thing's parents visited for 3 lights. Skeeter and I are always nervous when other Big Things visit, but they normally only stay a part of one light. And they took over MY room (that's my quiet place)!

I snuck in a couple of times, but I got shooed out again.
We knew something was up. The Big Thing was using the noisy sucky machine a lot more than usual, and he was using smelly sprays more than usual, too. He also moved stuff back and forth through the cave and took all our toys off the floor.

At least (it turned out) so our toys wouldn't get all stepped on. He left some in his bed room so we had something to do!
When the other Big Things arrived, Skeeter went and hid under The warm softy thing all day. I just sat in the room and watched and listened quietly. I came out and sat under tables and such later to see what they were doing better.
They sit a lot, so that was good. It meant I could slowly walk nearer to them until I was more sure of what they might do to me. Since they talked nice and stayed sitting, that made me feel safer.
The second light I finally went over at let one of them (barely) stroke me. Close enough to touch, but not grab, if you know what I mean. Later, I got close to the other Big Thing. I'm brave! And I don't care what The Big Thing thinks, I did NOT "panic" when the others started walking around. I was just being properly careful of my tail!
And I was NOT either afraid of the rolly thing one of them uses. It has wheels and is quiet, but it still reminds me of the big noisy thing that brings us to the vet, and I've been in that 4 times this big moon. I was just making sure I didn't get put in it and taken to the vet again! I like the older male Big Thing because he opens the hard clear thing so I can go outside and he lets me back inside, too.
Skeeter hardly came out at all. He came out to eat some food when things were very quiet and the strange Big Things were asleep. The second light, he came out when they were all eating. He even let them touch him. He says he figures they won't hurt him while they are busy eating. I think it is the smell of their food he likes. He didn't get any of their food, but he acts a lot more friendly when he can smell food. He isn't brave like me, but he is always interested in good-smelly food. He did get a little taste later, though (I sniffed it but went back to my wet smelly good stuff bowl).
The 3rd light, we both stayed in the main rooms where the Big Things were and let them touch us many times. Skeeter even curled up on our Big Thing's lap twice while the others were in the same room.
The Big Thing says we would get used to having other Big Things around if they stayed a whole Moon. Maybe, but it just seems unnatural to have more than one Big Thing in the cave. We would have to be watching too many Big Things all the time (to make sure we didn't get our tailses stepped on, whether they were going to use the noisy sucky thing, whether they were going to take us to the vet, etc).
I mean, 3 Big Things means 3 times the vet trips, right? They all seem to enjoy doing that! But maybe we would get out more often. And there would be more scratches under the chin. But we're not sure; they make a lot of noise talking to each other all the time, and there are all those extra feet to watch out for. We already get all the food we want. And I want my quiet room! Even Skeeter hardly ever goes in there.
Well, anyway, the strange Big Things got up at early light. There was an awful lot of noise and walking and things being moved around. Our Big Thing put us in his sleepy room and closed the door (so we wouldn't be bothered too much).
After a few licks, The Big Thing opened the door and let us out. We looked and listened all over the cave. Apparently the strange Big Things have left. I went and napped in my favorite bright warm spot. Skeeter went and ate all the old dry smelly food and some dry crunchies and didn't even worry when The Big Thing walked through the room.
Then we all went outside and walked around together for a while. Things seem back to normal and Skeeter and I like that.
I oddly miss the strange Big Things, though. I wonder why... Maybe however things are, they should stay that way. I guess I just like knowing what to expect each light.

Med-I-Ca-Shun
LC: Me and Skeeter have to get med-i-ca-shun! It's some cold pink fruity-tasting stuff. Once each light and once each dark. For a half a big moon (The Big Thing says). That vet thing says we have something high in our kidneys. Then we have to go back and get blood drained again. AGAIN!
The Big Thing explained to us that he is just being careful. It could just be a natural consequence of getting older, but it could be an in-fec-shun that can be fixed. Well, if in-fec-shuns are like ticks or fleas, we sure don't want them. But we don't want that cold icky stuff squirted in our mouths, either! The Big Thing says he is sorry to do it, but we isn't too sure; he seems very satisfied after he does it (and we can smell that about him). He just reeks of happiness after it is done...
At least he gives us some wet good food afterwards. I ate mine just to get the fruity taste out of my mouth, but Skeeter just ran away and hid under the bed all day. I went under the bed too to let him smell my breath and see that the taste goes away if we eat, but he would rather just hide and sulk. So I go sleep on top of the warm softy thing. I even let him take my picture again.

The Big Thing just talked to the vet again. There were 5 whole tests (must be one for each paw-claw) and we are OK on all of them but the kidney one. The kidney one is just barely high. I figur that must be a problem because Skeeter and I bunny-kick each other a lot, I suppose. I'll have to kick him harder to make him have to take that stuff longer than me!
But The Big Thing really says it is just a pre-caw-shun and we really don't have to worry. But we still have to get the pink stuff squirted down our throats...

The Sky Is Falling!
Skeeter: It is getting dangerous out on the deck. Stuff keeps falling from the trees. The tree-fur falls soft and slow, and that's OK, but hard things are hitting the cave (and bouncing off), and they hit the deck directly with a horrible sudden noise. The Big Thing says they are "eggcorns". I didn't know trees laid eggs of corn or anything else. And why would they throw them at the deck anyway? They are sure tough eggs, though; they don't break. The Big Thing breaks chickie eggs with his bare hands and those are bigger. He is really really strong.

When the tree eggcorns start hitting the deck, I run inside fast! LC stays outside, but she sits away from the trees. I'm not taking a chance like that, though. Who knows how far the trees can throw their eggs?

Shot!
Skeeter: Well, the kitty prisons came out today! I spent all morning sneaking around and hiding in my best places, but by afternoon, I forgot about them. When The Big Thing picked LC off the bed, though, I remembered and hid under the bed. It has a wood frame and I can hid against the wall. He had to move the top of it to get me out. I ran around the house and then got back under the bed again. He finally pushed a mop at me, so I had to leave again. He trapped me in a corner and gotted me. :(
Here we are in the kitty prisons in the Big Noisy Thing about to be hauled off to the VET!

I started moaning my loudest voice all the way to the vet. Even LC cried some and she hardly never talks. We both got stabbed a couple of times and had some stuff squirted in our nosies. We both had something pushed into our butts, too. How humiliating! And THEN we were taken away from The Big Thing and had some of our blood drained. We fought going into the kitty prison at home, but we sure got into them in a hurry when the vet let loose of us!
LC: It gets worse. I have to go back tommorrow! The Big Thing says I have dirty teeth, and the vet forgot my rabies shot, too. Maybe I can bite the vet with my dirty teeth and then HE will have to get shot...
Skeeter and I have decided we will NOT sleep next to The Big Thing tonight!
