And Binq on the chair arm!
And, for once, you can actually make out her face and fur. Will wonders never cease?
And Binq on the chair arm!
TBT: Today I am thankful for moths. Yes, moths. Specifically the ones who settle a a few feet up on the outside of the deck door! Binq goes crazy after them lately and I am thankful they make her happy.
She jumps several feet up trying to get at them, not understanding they are on the outside of the door. And she keeps trying to get them (about 15 minutes at a time and over several days so far).
Not great pictures... It is black outside, Binq is black, and the moths are too small to be seen. But with some better light in your imagination, you can see what she is seeing...
I'm not sure what they are seeing out there. We used to have an occasional possum and sometimes an intruder cat, but I haven't seen them on the deck in a few years. Wildlife seems to be disappearing. I think I will post about that on my own blog soon.
But for now, whatever makes Binq and Loki feel like friends, Marley tolerant of everybody, and Lori very gradually calming down, I am thankful.
LOKI: I dont understand what fascinates Binq about the deck door mat. I checked under it once an didn't find anything.
TBT: OK, the first is just Loki...
BTW: While all 4 are "The Mews" (and "The Mews" is whatever the current household is), I have begun to think of Marley, Loki, and Binq as "The 3" because they get along and are easy together, and Loki and Binq as "The 2" because they are very close and both came from the Shelter together.
The Shelter staff said they didn't have any connection in their previous lives or any noticeable one in the Community Room. But they have certainly bonded here, and I am grateful for that!
And Happy Shelter Cat Day!
LOKI AND BINQ: We really get along together well.
TBT is very happy about that.
We wrassle briefly sometimes, but it is very brief.
Mostly, we are both generally near each other.
It is good ta have a close friend.
LOKI AND BINQ: We both have our favrit spots on the chair (when TBT isn't sitting there).
LOKI: Sad to say, when TBT decides to sit in the chair I have to move. There are disadvantages to being smaller than he is. But most of the day, the spot is mine. An sometimes Binq leaves an I take the top of the chair. I suppose it all works out...
TBT: Loki and Binq went outside free to wander around the yard earlier today! It felt a bit soon, but quite frankly, I had too much trouble with the harness. So I decided to just let them out after 3 days sniffing the yard from the PTU (I took turns with them out on the deck).
No cat has actually ever just wandered away when learning the home smells from outside, so I just gave up and let them out. And it all worked out fine.
Loki first. He was anxious to get outside. He may have had some experience with that in his previous home, but the Shelter didn't know and I had to let him out eventually. Today was a good day.
I say "good day" because it was wet out from morning rain and he would be discouraged from wanting to wander too far. I was out following him, of course. So he sniffed and wandered around a bit. But never seemed to want to leave the yard.
He went right down the deck stairs to the lawn.
When he (we) had been out about 30 minutes, I picked him up and brought him inside. He has a lot of new experiences to process!
Then it was Binq's turn. She went out on the deck for a bit, but I didn't get any good pictures of her looking out over the edge or down the stairs.
Apparently, Binq is going to be a deck cat at most. Or maybe even not that. She has been cautious of new experiences since coming here. For example, she stayed in The Mews Room a week after the door was left open. She is flighty if I am in the basement when she wants to use the litterbox. She will sit on the arm of the TV chair when I am sitting there, for is tentative about getting on my lap. She has done that a couple times, but is unsure.
So the pics I have of her time outside are mostly about her wanting to get back inside.
And of course I was there too. Gave her strokes, let her reach up and grab my pants, talked to her the whole time.
So Loki's and Binq's first time free outside went well enough. But Loki sure likes "outside" better than Binq does. Loki wants the whole yard. Binq wants the deck.
LOKI AND BINQ: We both got outside recently. In the PTU... So it wasn't like we were free. But we did get ta sit on the deck and smell/hear/see stuff! It was quite eciting fer both of us.
TBT wanted to get us out on harnesses to get used to the yard last week, but it was rainy. Maybe this week. We sure hope so. We liked being outside.
TBT: Loki and Binq are often together. The TV chair is a favorite place. Sometimes both are on the top, but most often, one is on the top and the other on the seat.
Binq was napping on the top, but suddenly stood up. So I got what I could get. And she looks like a good model for a Halloween pumpkin... LOL!
World Spay Day
And BTW, Happy World Spay Day. All The Mews are spayed or neutered of course. Not to diminish the importance and peace of neutering the Mancats, but I'm glad for spaying the Womancats. Ayla and Iza had their spats. Lori and Binq have some hissies too.
But spats and hissies are one thing. I can only contemplate the household disruption if neither was spayed. "Hiss" would be "fur on the floor"...
I can't help remembering the difficulty in getting Lori spayed at the previous Vet. It was an adventure in discovering that Vets are not equally knowledgable. That Vet said Lori had "low platelet count and couldn't be spayed. She eventually went to a tech lab and learned (yes "learned" - she must have skipped class that day at Vet University) that cat platelet clumps are routine.
You can read all about that HERE. I was surprised, and it caused me to change Vets. When I mentioned the "platelet thing', even the vet tech knew all about that. That's why I love them.
So, Happy World Spay Day!
