Monday Comment Reply

TBT:  I think it time to answer a few comments again.  I sure love reading them!  But when I reply back in the original post, I'm not sure if the commentor ever sees them.  And I value them all, but some are easir to reply to than others just because they are sort of "smilies" at The Mews and some seem to be actual questions nor observations.  So here come a few...

Both Meezer's Mews & Terrieristical Woofs and Memories of Eric and Flynn commented on Binq's tail poof at the Intruder Cat.  She has done an impressive tail poof before, but it is hard to get a pic of that.  She runs around a lot when poofed and I and my camera are not as fast as she is.  But she can do a real bottle-brush with her tail.

Memories of Eric and Flynn commented that "Ayla was clearly an intellectual with her choice of TV programmes".  Yes she was.  The TV fascinated her.  I previously once wondered if cat's eyes could see the TV well (being better than the resolution of the TV screen).  Ayla proved she could see it clearly.  When my Dad was here (and loved to watch golf), she would tap at the small image of the golf ball in flight.  And any strange image on the TV captured her attention.  But the DVDs of mice and birds (cat-sitter TV) never interested her all that much.  I think she had a strange view of odd shapes.  And she did love watching dinosaurs.  No other cat before or since paid any attention to the TV images.

Meezer's Mews & Terrieristical Woofs commented "And OOHHH, those murder mitts!!"  And Megan mentioned "Fabulous floaty toes there Binq".  Yeah.  Marley and Taz have larger paws,  but I can't recall a cat with larger claws.  They are lethal in size.  And Binq likes to grab things with them.  Like my hands.  I constantly have claw-pricks on them... I really have to learn "claw-clippies".  But it is hard for one person to do.  Even at the Vet, it takes 2.

And maybe that's why she plays with toys so much.  She can really get a grip on them.  Its funny; Iza used to strip the skin off her beloved rattelly mice but Binq just loves to hold them in her claws as she runs around the house with them.

Lizzie commented  (about Marley and Lori sitting side-by-side) "I[t] does look like those two have developed a relationship. They've been with you the longest. You've gone through a rough patch with "too many kitties" but it looks like you all are coming out on the other side. Congratulations".

Yeah, Fall of 2023 was hard.  Laz and Ayla both had to cross The Bridge.  And I adopted Taz and Binq from the Shelter shortly after that.  But like LC 30 years ago immediately loving the older resident cat Skeeter and loving him, Lori adapted to Marley from the first day.  She adores him.  And that has gladdened my heart.

Maybe someday Lori will accept Taz and Binq as friends.  Things have been a lot calmer lately on her part.  There is hope.

Melissa, Mudpie and Angel Truffles (Mochas, Mysteries and Meows) commented about Taz resting his head on a rolled-up camO-mat. saying "You found a pawsome pillow".  Yeah, each of The Mews have favorite spots (when not on The Lap).  Lori loves the aquarium top.  Marley loves a generally out-of-sight place next to a cat tree.  Binq loves the top of the old home-built platform and the back of my TV chair.

Taz has 2 main places.  The stack of folded towels on the shoe rack (Ayla's former safety zone) and the Secretary desk next to my TV chair.  The rolled camo mat is the best pillow.

Answers To Comments

We love comments.  We read them all with joy. We wish we could reply to every one of them (our reply function is "iffy").  But we have to choose among many...

Reading Cats Computer Wallpaper (47+ images)

1.  Catladymac said " Hopefully she wont realize the "guided tours" involve meds ! Glad to see them all together once in awhile !

Lori recognizes the foodbowl and follows it.  She likes eating in a closed room.  The others can't nose-in, so she eats all her food with meds there.

2.  Pilch92 said " We have food thieves here so we can't leave anything unattended for a second"

It has gotten to where, if the phone rings while I am eating, I take the plate with me to answer it.

3.  Memories of Eric and Flynn (Jackie) said " I know I must have said it before, that is a great cat tree.

There are actually 2 of them set together.  But yeah, they sure love both that way.  And it is impressive.

4.  Megan said " Still not allowed outside? That TBT is a tough parent!"

I am waiting for Spring.  I don't want to take a chance one might get loose of the initial harness in Winter.  Loki REALLY wants to get outside.  He may have had experience "out", but I won't risk freezing weather to start with him.  Binq doesn't show much interest in "out", but I bet she will when she discovers it.  I'm thinking mid-March.

5. Meezers said "Maybe TBT needs to make movies of you".

I have videos.  I'm just too stupid to know how to post them.

6. Brians Home Blog said " Humans going food hunting is always a good thing!

I have a hallway closet all shelves.  I suppose it is for towels and such.  But it is mostly "cat stuff" here.  Cleaners up high, meds lower.  The eye-level shelf is all food.  It fits 9 rows of cans wide, 8 cans high.  When it gets down to 4 days worth, I go to Walmart for best prices on Fancy Feast and then to Petsmart for what Walmart doesn't have.

I used to order from Chewy, but they don't pack stuff well.  Too many dented cans and I don't trust dented ones.

Ask me a question, I'll always reply.

If I don't know the answer, I surely won't lie.

I love all the comments, I say that for sure.

When life gets too busy, they're always a cure.

Love to all!

Easy Like Sunday

Some replies to Friday Flashback, and Skeeter:

Meezer's Mews said "You were so kind hearted and Skeeter was grateful to you forever more! You have many sweet memories to cherish".

Skeeter changed my life from "a cat around the house" to "a dear cat-friend" around the house.  He changed me from "a cat" to "a specific cat" as an individual.  I would not be the person I am now without having Skeeter in my life.  Let's just say he tripped a switch  in my mind.

Mariette VandenMunckhof-Vedder said:

"What a wonderful love story between you and Skeeter!
He was lucky you rescued him from that noisy store and bringing him home.
Sure, those changes are at times traumatic to any kitty and that might explain the hiding.
But he sure learned that his life was going to be one with LOVE."

It was indeed.  Skeeter changed my life.  I cared well enough for previous cats (because I liked having one but Skeeter was more personal).  I chose him, and that made a lot of difference.  And in a way, he chose me.  He ran to me in his cage.  The "wrong cat" would not have.

Catladymac said:  " You may not get the cat you want, but you get the cat you need." Or who needs you. Skeeter's love is still with you, carrying over to all the kitties since."

Yes, Skeeter was the cat I needed and he needed me..  I don't really know why he seemed so different, but he was.  I went from "cat-liker" to "cat-lover".

There is such a sight difference in words, but such a great difference in attitude.

Maybe it was him, maybe it was just the right time in my life, but he changed me.  Every cat since has been an individual one, not just "the house cat".

Skeeter, in another home, might have become a very different cat.

But here he was..

Answers To Questions/Comments

Today I answer comments.  And forgive me, I tend to use handles as names...  And forgive me the "cute" gif.  I found it by accident and loved it.

Anime gif. Sitting at a classroom desk, pink bunny from Muffin and Nuts smiles and raises its hand and a speech bubble appears containing the quadratic formula.

Megan said " That second pic shows Laz's extraordinary fur markings really well".  Yes, Laz has distinct markings.  But his furs are basically grey tabby.  It is his deep blue eyes that show his siamese parent.  And his voice.  He talks a lot, loudly, as Siamese do.

Several people mentioned the whisker collection.  I started doing that in 2008 after Skeeter left and thinking that I should keep memories after I found whiskers around the house.  The green bottle was a happy find at Walmart.  If I get bored someday, I may count them.

The Meezers mentioned that "Lori has a cute stink eye!!".  Yes she does.  She can look really mean sometimes.  But she is never actually mean.  But she can growl sometimes.  Yesterday, she came in with those triangular "sticky seeds" stuck to her fur (it's that time of the year).  And when I held her down to pull them off, she complained the whole time.

Piltch mentioned "those white chocolate truffles too and at Valentine's Day, they have white with strawberry filling".  I love the extra dark and white chocolate.  Never had the ones with the strawberry filling, but will watch for those.  I love strawberries.

Memories Of Eric And Flynn said "Great flashback! Iza did a good job on skinning her mousies! Love her pose on the cards and it would make a good centrefold"

Iza was a dedicated skinner of her rattley-mousies.  She ripped everything she could to pieces.  I had to hide toilet paper from her.  She could unroll and rip up an entire roll in an hour of dedicated effort.  Lori follows her tradition.

And Iza's playing card pic was one of the oddest I ever took.  She lioved showing off her tummy, but that was a weird view of her.

Meezers - "Ahhh, Marley are you guarding the Duck from the youngsters??!

Marley protects anycat and everything.  He doesn't actually plasy with any toys ever.  Maybe he just wants them to feel safe.

Thank you all, everyone for reading and commenting!

Weird Wensday

 Megan commented:

"You know - I can't see that you really need those magic thumbs of his to open the door. So why don't you sit TBT down and get him to explain to you how you can open the door for yourselves? Then you'd be able to come and go as you please. Tell him that he'd have a much more peaceful life if he wasn't always jumping up from his chair to open the door for you. It's clearly a win-win."

We Mews have actually discussed that with TBT.  And he has actually had some thoughts on that.  And he is seldom in a chair in daylight.

One involved a lever that we could reach up to and pull on.  But he couldn't figure out how to make that safe.  It wouldn't close afterwards.  And we have hornets around here that want to come inside the house and he really hates hornets in the house.

Another idea he had was to fit a piece of plywood into the deck doorframe with a cat-flap at the bottom.  But he doesn't want to find an opossum in the kitchen or an intruder cat sneaking in to bother us (we had one that tried to get in a few weeks ago).  And it would make the door less secure.

Trixie 4-Way Cat Flap Door (Brown) : Buy Trixie 4-Way Cat Flap Door ...

And he says he would worry about us going outside at night.  He says "there are owls".  He says there are large ones in the swamp across the street.  We are brave cats, but "owls" seem worrisome.  We hear them hooting at night.  You can't hear them flying though.  Ask any mouse...

So, TBT says he will do the effort to let us out only in daytime for our own safety and stay out with us when we are.  But we have to stay in after dark.  Safe is a good thing.
