Persian Underground (Garage Rock, Beat And Psychedelic Sounds From The Iranian 60's & 70's Scene) (V/A)

quinta-feira, 21 de novembro de 2013

Persian Underground (Iranian 60's and 70's Scene) – LP Persianna ‎– PSR004.

Ojubeha em persa significa The Wonders

A1 Zangoleah – Uncle Chainmaker
A2 Saeed – Avenue Of Love

Pomegranates - Persian Pop, Folk and Psych of the 60s and 70s - (Vol.1 - V/A)

quarta-feira, 12 de outubro de 2011

Pomegranates -  Persian Pop, Funk, Folk and Psych of the 60's and 70's - (Vol. 1 - V/A).

Bright Persian psychedelic pop, funk, soul and boundless grooves from the 60s and 70s – one of the greatest compilations yet from Finders Keepers! Many of the tunes are actually classics of the era's Iranian scene, if wildly fresh and new our ears, while others are quite obscure all around, but all of it is fresh and exciting exotic pop that we're thrilled to see collected. The sounds draw from the creatively fertile period when traditions were combined in music all around the world – with hypnotic eastern raga strings blended with global funk and jazz, bursting pop tunefulness and both meditative and instantly gratifying melodies of myriad influences, borderline disco grooves and beyond. Exciting stuff!

The Golden Ring - The Golden Ring (Iran) - 60/70's Complete Recordings

The Golden Ring (Iran) - 60/70's Complete Recordings (LP Persianna PSR001).

It seems like almost every other week or so, I will stumble upon another blog that focuses on African music. I would say that its much less frequent for Asian music… Maybe once a month at best. But the lack of blogs or websites or what have you that feature the music of the Middle East never ceases to amaze me. There are a few… But not that many. And of the six or seven I can name off the top of my head, three are dedicated to the music of Iran.
The Golden Age of Persian pop music started as early as the 1950s under the monarchy of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. During his rule, there was an emergence of a new Western-influenced middle class. Soon, record labels started popping up.
The first label in Iran was Ahang (“song”) in 1959 and pressed their records in Germany. Ahang records were distributed by the Beethoven Music Center based on Manuchehri Ave. in Tehran and owned by Karim Chamanara. By the following year, they were issuing more than two hundred records 45 rpm 7″ records. Six years later, the label change its name to Ahang e Rooz (“song of the day”).
Royal Records was probably the second largest label in Iran. They began by releasing more traditional Persian music on 78 discs, then reproducing old recordings in the 45 rpm format. Eventually Royal, as well as Ahang and a handful of other labels, started to release new recordings of different artists and in all genres of Persian music – including the new “Beat music”.
There were a number of Beat groups in Iran, including Flowers, Golden Ring, Littles, Maha Jamin, Ojoobeha (Remarkables), The Rainbow, The Rebels, Shabah. And while there is little information beyond a few photos and sound files, I have read accounts of Ojoobeha riding camels to the stage and The Rebels cruising around Tehran in a black Cadillac convertible. But beyond that… There is not a whole lot. I know that Golden Ring released at least two singles other than the one posted here. They were also the backing band for Aref on some of his earlier singles. The Rebels, also known as The Rebels 5 and The Rebel Kings, released at least three singles – one with a cover of The Beatles’ “I Saw Her Standing There” and another with a version of The Rolling Stones’ “Mother’s Little Helper”. As for the rest, I have only seen one single by each of them.
Surprisingly, there has yet to be a compilation of any of the music, Beat or otherwise, from Iran from this time period on up until the revolution of 1979. I’ve heard rumors that at least three different people that I know of who are working on compilations. But if and when any those will ever see the light of day remains a mystery.

The Rebels - The Rebels (LP Iran 60's)

The Rebels - The Rebels (LP Persianna PSR003 - Iran 60's) - Persian garage / rock'n roll / early rock

Interessante este LP de um grupo do Irão (antiga Pérsia), dos anos 60.
De salientar o tema "Shadogi ", simpática adaptação do tema dos Shadows/Shadoogie.

Meet 'The Rebels', Iran's answer to the Rolling Stones. Nothing from the Middle East screams 'Rock N Roll' like The Rebels, who's name was derived from their rebellious departure from the typical musical sound scape of Iran. Their gritty garage rock soars with snotty vocals, while the recording qualities stay true to what fans of the genre would expect. You'd never imagine this came from The Middle East upon first listen, as it could very well pass for lost Ugly Ducklings recordings. Originals like "Indian Rebels" with its catchy hook and melody, echoed drums and guitar solos, will have you scratching your head in disbelief as to how this sound found itself within Persian record stores in the 60's and 70's. Still unknown to many, this collection of music will surprise even the biggest record collectors around the world, and is sure to have them salivating for more. Here is a collection of all their recordings, offering you a chance to hear the complete discography at a fraction of the price of originals. That is of course if you could even find an original.

Faixas/Tracklist:
Indian Rebels
 It's Alright
I Saw Her Standing There
What Can He Do
Sha La La
It's Gonna Be Alright

Raks Raks Raks, V/A - 27 golden garage psych nuggets from the iranian 60s scene

sexta-feira, 28 de janeiro de 2011

Raks Raks Raks, V/A - 27 Golden Hits (garage psych nuggets from the iranian 60's scene).

Raks Discos is proud to present one of the most anticipated as well as unexpected compilations from the global depths of 60s and 70s rock'n'roll: the Persian scene. Let alone coming across with a representative compilation, even solid evidence of such a scene has not been seen until now and has been largely suspected, maybe save for a select few of eager garage and psychedelic record collectors and enthusiasts of worldwide rock, who have been trying to hunt down such sounds on the internet and private collectors' circles, usually to no avail. Needless to say, the most important factor in this has been the obvious hideously rare status that Iran's pre-Revolution East-West cross cultural artefacts have right now. As with almost all Asiatic countries, the Shadows and the Ventures seem to be the true and primal influence in the Iranian music scene for the most part of the 60s as rock sound and attitude struggled to penetrate the country's fledgling record industry and its swinging public base. In 1964, the legendary Top4 company opened up and started releasing choice chart hits from the worldwide lists, on 4-track EPs, followed soon by MonoGram and other companies. These mixed up records featured a lot of popular songs of the day, spanning the whole European continent i.e. including what's referred to now as 'Euro pop' hits and the 'big brothers', UK and US charts. The day's youth back then was lucky: they could follow the West moment by moment. The foremost impact of these were to feature and spread British invaders, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, otherwise available only on radio. Come 1966, the 60s was in full swing in Iran too!
