The Caravelles were a British duo girl band, best known for their 1963 hit single, "You Don't Have to Be a Baby to Cry".
The duo named themselves the Caravelles after the French airliner, whilst the song "You Don't Have To Be A Baby To Cry" started its life as a regional hit for Moon Mullican, and then was used as the B-side toTennessee Ernie Ford's hit single "Sixteen Tons". The single "You Don't Have To Be A Baby To Cry" reached #3 in the Billboard Hot 100 in America, and #6 in the UK Singles Chart.
Despite changes in musical style, they could not regain their former high ground on either side of the Atlantic. Lois Wilkinson left to go solo, recorded as Lois Lane, married, and appeared on BBC Television's programs singing pop hits. Andrea Simpson carried on with the Caravelles until the 1980s, recording but not hitting the charts; and with replacements, Simpson still does the occasional gig. The Caravelles retain their transatlantic one-hit wonder status to this day.

This is an anthology of material (25 tracks) by this one-shot British female duo, who actually issued more records in the 1960s than most listeners realize. The first 12 tracks are identical to those that appeared on their sole U.S. LP (1963's You Don't Have to Be a Baby to Cry), including the hit title cut and other less memorable numbers in the same style (an assortment of labels between 1963 and 1968).
