Bobservations

This isn’t so much about Carlos, though he’s in it, but about my Dad, and Ozzo.

When Carlos and I were in North Carolina last week, our friends Neal and David’s dog, Marley, decided he wanted to be Carlos’ lap dog. And so he crawled into Carlos’ lap.

I shared the photo to Facebook, and a few days later I was talking to my Dad and he didn’t realize our dog was that big. I explained to him that it was Marley, not Ozzo, and told him I’d recreate the photo with our dog. And here the two photos are:

Can you spot the difference?

PS In the right photo, those are Carlos’ hideous “yard” shorts that I keep trying to throw out.

I’m thinking of running for Mayor of Smallville, but only as a front for Tuxedo, who would be the real mayor.

Remember Anita Bryant? The bigoted Christian homophobe from the 1970s? Well, the bitch hasn’t changed.

Bryant’s granddaughter, Sarah Green, talked about her relationship with Bryant on a recent episode of Slate’s podcast One Year, hosted by Josh Levin and focusing on 1977, when Anita came “out” as a bigot. And while the episode dealt with the fight over LGBT rights in Miami-Dade in the 70s, near the end Green talked about her grandmother, saying she once thought Bryant didn't really hate LGBTQ+ people. But she started to look at her grandmother differently when Green realized she herself was gay and although she had no intention of doing so, she came out to Bryant on her 21st birthday when Bryant sang “Happy Birthday” over the phone and told her that if she had faith, the right man would come along:

“And I just snapped and was like, ‘I hope that he doesn’t come along, because I’m gay, and I don’t want a man to come along.’”

Bryant responded by saying that homosexuality is a delusion invented by the devil and that her granddaughter should focus on loving God, because that would make her realize she’s straight.

Anita Bryant; still a hate-filled bigot after all these.

And Anita won’t like this but … while the leaders of Hungary are virulently anti-LGBTQ+, the recent Budapest Pride saw record numbers of LGBTQ+ citizens and allies filling the streets.

Thousands of LGBTQ Hungarians and allies donned their finest Rainbow drag and marched through downtown Budapest in one of the largest demonstrations against Prime Minister Viktor Orban and his administration’s moves to criminalize the nation’s LGBTQ community.

Pride; on full display.

Matt Gaetz’s future sister-in-law, Roxanne Luckey, has had enough of Gaetz, and took to TikTok to post three videos slamming him as “weird and creepy” and “a literal pedophile.”

Thanksgiving is gonna be mighty uncomfortable this year, what with Gatez in prison and all.

Fingers crossed.

Racist, repugnant, illiterate, entirely dumb-fucked Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Green called a private business’s decision to not admit unvaccinated patrons “segregation” in a Tweet that included a screenshot of a door sign that read:

“NO VAX NO SERVICE.”

The restaurant owners decided that after a few positive COVID cases last week, the rule was necessary. Greene commented:

“This is called segregation. Will you be testing everyone at the door for the flu, strep throat, stomach bugs, colds, meningitis, aids, venereal diseases, Hep A, Hep C, staff infections, athletes foot, pink eye, croup, bronchitis, ringworm, scabies, or any other contagions?”

First off, it’s staph infection, you dumb bitch; and I wish Congress would test for ignorance and racism and then drum all of you out of DC.

On the flip side, the owner of Basilico’s Pasta e Vino in Huntington Beach, California posted a sign on his restaurant door that reads:

“Notice: Proof of being unvaccinated required. We have zero tolerance for treasonous, anti-American stupidity. Thank you for pondering.”

I wonder if COVID-19 is on the menu or is just the Daily Special.

Asshats.

Fox News has condemned an incident during which Dan Bailey confronted Tucker Carlson at a Montana fly-fishing store over the weekend and told the fucker he was the “worst human being known to man.”

“Ambushing Tucker Carlson while he is in a store with his family is totally inexcusable. No public figure should be accosted regardless of their political persuasion or beliefs simply due to the intolerance of another point of view.”

Sorry, Fox, it’s called Free Speech. Now, fuck off.*

*Also Free Speech.

And now, a little morsel from France to cleanse the palate … an amuse-bouche, if you will … Frédéric Tisseau is a thirty-five-year-old model, personal trainer, and physical education teacher from Paris. And he’s all kinds of dreamy.

He was “discovered” on the streets of Paris, and ended up modeling for Calvin Klein, Renault, Adidas and Chanel.

And now Frédéric  is launching All-in-paris.com, a casual clothing brand. Funny, though, that my favorite photo of Frédéric is the one where he wears no clothing … just sayin’.

Homophobes Are Stupid

FROTHY MIX IS NOT A HOMOPHOBE....GAYS JUST DON'T DESERVE EQUALITY
Rick Santorum, AKA Frothy Mix--Google it and see what that means--who is running for presidential, which causes endless giggle fits around Casa Smallville, has come out--no, not like that--saying he supports a federal constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. Of course, this is the same Ric....Frothy Mix, that has said in the past that same-sex marriage is akin to having sex with dogs, and that it's "common sense" to keep gays from marrying and adopting children, who wants to reinstate the ban on gays in the military, and has said that gays shouldn't have the "privilege of government benefits" offered to heterosexual couples.

He says all that, and the says that he isn't a homophobe.

Oh, but'ch'are, Blanche, but'ch'are a homophobe.

As for his desire to federally ban marriage equality, he said
"I support a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage. I believe that marriage should be a consistent thing across the country. Marriage is the union of one man and one woman...Once people realize the consequence to society of changing this definition...it's gonna have a profound impact on society, on faith, on education. And once people realize that, they say, you know what, we respect people's right to live the life they want to lead but don't try to fundamentally change how society functions by changing that definition."

Hey Frothy, look at the recent polls where support for marriage equality is on the rise. I don't think there will ever be a Constitutional Amendment banning same-sex marriage, but I am working on an amendment banning you from opening your ignorant yap.

TARGET ISN'T ANTI-GAY, THEY LOVE EVERYBODY
Target CEO Gregg Steinhafel said: "Our position at this particular time is that we are going to be neutral on that particular issue [marriage equality and Minnesota trying to ban it], as we would be on other social issues that have polarizing points of view...We're a retail store, we welcome everybody...We have a broad team-member base, every shape and size and color. And so we are a very inclusive organization...We're going to continue to monitor, we're going to continue to assess, and see how that develops."

Um, Greg, you douchenozzle. You don't welcome everyone if you donate to anti-gay causes. That little act makes you anti-gay.

See, simple.

Now, if I were to, say, ask anyone who believes that Target is a discriminatory company that seeks to deny the LGBT community their rights, and I ask people to support a ban on shopping at Target, that would make me anti-Target.

Which I am.

See, I can admit being anti-Target, you should admit to being anti-gay, since you have given all sorts of money to anti-gay groups, without trying to cover your tracks with corporate rhetoric about business and inclusiveness.

You're not that dumb, are you Greg?

Anita Bryant 2.0
During the Eagle Forum Collegians 2011 Summit with Phyllis Schlafly, Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler of Missouri told ll those strapping young conservatives why they should oppose marriage equality, by trotting out that old chestnut that legalizing gay marriage is akin to legalizing pedophilia, that legalizing gay marriage would be like legalizing incest.

That legalizing gay marriage is exactly like letting a three-year-old drive a car.

Portia de Rossi DeGeneres, she's an idiot.

But here's Anita, er, Vicky, in her won words:
"Some people say, why does it matter to you as a government official? I care about someone else, I'm committed, I should be able to marry. Well, think about it. That starts you down the road to opening up licensure to basically meaning that the license would mean nothing if you let everybody with that standard. For instance, if you just care about somebody and you have a committed relationship, why not allow one man and two women, or three women to marry? ....Why not allow group marriage? .... Why not allow an uncle to marry his niece? Why not allow a 50-year-old man to marry a 12-year-old girl if they love each other and they’re committed? .... It's not a right of anybody--of a 3-year-old to be able to drive a car."

Well, you can imagine that these comments sent Little Miss Vicky into damage control, and when asked to clarify her remarks, or if they were taken out of context, she said that they were indeed misquotes.

She meant to say letting thirteen-year-olds drive cars, not three-year-olds.

Oh, well, then......carry on. Dumbass.

BRYAN FISCHER'S ILLOGICAL LOGIC
Bryan Fischer, Executive Bigot of the American Family Association believes that the repeal of DADT will actually lead to the LGBT community fighting for it's reinstatement.

Dan Choi, say what?

See, Bry, and he loves to be called Bry when he ALLEGEDLY snuggles with his non-sexual life partner, says the repeal of DADT will cause fewer gays to enlist because we only enlist so we can use being gay as an excuse to get out of the military, and because we don't really want to be soldiers anyway.

Which makes perfect sense. To morons.

Then he says that the repeal of DADT will cause straight men and women to stop enlisting because they don't want to serve with the gays.

But, Bry, you said the gays would stop enlisting with the repeal of DADT so why would the straights mind serving if there are no gays in the military anymore?

Oh, that's right, you're an idiot.

Don't ask, it makes no sense to me either.

Anita Gets The HBO Treatment

HBO is developing a biopic of Anita Bryant, the nutjob who went off on the gay community back in the 70s. Like a homophobic Chicken Little she ran around the country telling people that "The Gays"were recruiting children.

Now 69, Anita Bryant, is a former Miss Oklahoma [so maybe that's where the anti-gay stuff comes from] and a runner-up to Miss America; she was a fairly successful singer in the 1950s and 60s, and a spokeswoman for Florida orange juice.

But she is best known for her fights against gay equality.

Sex and the City creator Darren Star, who is gay, is set to direct and executive produce, while Chad Hodge is developing the screenplay. Hodge is said to be aiming for a "nuanced"portrayal of the Christian activist, saying Bryant is a "fascinating person on every single level."

Bryant was born to a religious family in Oklahoma, became a beauty queen, and then a singer, and then was a celebrity spokeswoman for the Florida Citrus Commission: "Breakfast without orange juice is like a day without sunshine."

I do a variation on that theme: "Breakfast without a gay man is like a day without sunshine."

In the 70s that Bryant became a controversial figure when she began rallying against a Miami-Dade ordinance outlawing discrimination against gays, and the ordinance was defeated. It would not be reinstated until 1998--twenty-eight years later.

Bryant then lead a group called Save Our Children, which encouraged other cities to protest anti-discrimination measures, she claimed that gays would "recruit" children, saying "As a mother, I know that homosexuals cannot biologically reproduce children; therefore, they must recruit our children.....If gays are granted rights, next we'll have to give rights to prostitutes and to people who sleep with St Bernards and to nail biters."

Nail biters? Seriously? That should have been the biggest clue that Anita had gone wingnut.

In response to the Save Our Children movement, gay bars across America boycotted orange juice, and Anita Bryant lost her Florida Citrus Commission deal and filed for bankruptcy.

A hater? Yup. A wingnut? No doubt. But still, quite the figure in the LGBT rights movement, because she stirred up our community and made us fight for equality.

The picture at the top was the result of being hit in the face with a pie at a news conference. Anita, in full holy roller mode, didn't want the gay man who tossed the pie, to be arrested; instead, she sat there and prayed for him. her comment at the time, however, was more telling of her hatred than he Christian faith: "At least it was a fruit pie."
