Random Musings

I do loves me some Alan Grayson, the extremely outspoken Democratic Congressman from Florida.
Earlier this week Grayson sought to bring a resolution declaring that the government shutdown had been a blight upon the dignity—sorry, gotta giggle at that …dignity—of the legislature, citing numerous polls that showed public opinion of Congress was worse than toenail fungus, hemorrhoids, and zombies.
Yup. Tis true, y’all.
But then Grayson took it a step further and said that Congress had a lower approval rating than “dog poop” and that was when the, well, poop hit the fan. Speaker pro tempore Steve Womack, a Republican dontcha know, interrupted and told Grayson to keep his remarks confined to whether the question was privileged.
Then Womack cut him off with several dramatic gavel bangs. “The chair has heard enough.”
Well, Chair, the people have heard enough and we are not happy.
Dog poop. It’s funny cuz it’s true.

This week the Olympic flame arrived in Russia and they rolled out the red carpet in Red Square.
They rolled out another red carpet for the man who made the big bet on Russia as host for the Winter Games in Sochi, President Vladimir Putin, but the flame wasn’t having it.
The flame entered from stage left, held modestly in a brass lamp. Putin came in from stage right. Two runners then lit a hand-held torch from the bigger flame and carried it toward the Kremlin where a handover took place. The new runner, Shavarsh Karapetyan, a one-time champion swimmer, then disappeared through the Savior Gate but not before the crowd noticed that the flame had blown out.
Yup, even the Olympic torch isn’t happy about being in Russia because, well, it’s a flamer you know.

While most in the media are keeping their mouths shut where the Republicans are concerned and not asking the hardball questions — not even Chris Matthews on Hardball — one journalist, Bob Schieffer of CBS’s Face the Nation isn’t playing along. This week he challenged Republican Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn on his party's childish tantrum:
SCHIEFFER: The law has been passed. Why not keep the government running and then everybody can sit down and decide what they want to do about it.
CORNYN: Well, there should be a negotiation, and this government would still be up and running in full if President…if Harry Reid had allowed Democrats to vote to eliminate the Congressional carve-out which treats them favorably under Obamacare and to treat average Americans the same way the President has decided to treat business with regard to Obamacare penalties.
SCHIEFFER: Senator, isn't there something wrong when you say I won't fund the government unless I can attach my personal wish list to the legislation every time we vote? I'd love to see the government find a cause, uh, cure for cancer, but I don't think you can say I'm not going to pass any funds for the rest of the government until [the National Institutes of Health] finds a cure for cancer. I mean, isn't that just kind of the same thing here?
CORNYN: :::crickets::::
And that’s the problem. Meanwhile, while the Republicans hold the nation hostage, saying they’re trying to save the taxpayers some money, but the shutdown is costing us, you and me, at least $300,000,000 every single day.

Sometimes Texas can surprise me.
This week, officials at the University of Texas at San Antonio have decided to offer the wife of a female  Air Force captain in-state tuition after previously denying her the rate.
Officials wouldn’t discuss their original decision in denying the in-state rate to the women, and would only say they were looking into it. But, even though Texas doesn’t recognize same-sex marriages, the federal government does, and Lambda Legal said public universities that receive federal funding are required to offer military members and their families in-state tuition.
BAM! Done.

So, what's new with TV?
Well, I wasn't hoping for much with Sean Hayes' return to TV in Sean Saves The World and I didn't get much. But it was cute, and Linda Lavin was good, so I'm gonna stick it out for a couple of more weeks.
In the interests of honesty and openness, I have decided to come clean about something:
I have a gay man crush on Naya Rivera, the lesbian character on Glee. Every time I see a picture of her I think, Man is she gorgeous … Then I go back to reality … For a woman.
Still loving The Blacklist and Hostages, and waiting for Grimm and Dracula, which premiere at the end of this month.
But, American Horror Story: Coven is back and it's delicious!

Back in 2008, Crystal Dixon, then a University of Toledo associate vice president of human services, was fired after writing an article in the Toledo Free Press in which she said The Gays "violate God's divine order."
"As a Black woman...I take great umbrage at the notion that those choosing the homosexual lifestyle are civil rights victims. I cannot wake up tomorrow and not be a Black woman. Daily thousands of homosexuals make a life decision to leave the gay lifestyle."
She later told reporters at her church that she had a divine mandate to write the column.
Dixon filed suit as a result of the firing, saying the administrators violated her First Amendment rights by retaliating against her for her speech and also violated her 14th Amendment right to equal protection under the law.
But late last year, a federal appeals court upheld her firing, saying that her column "contradicted the very policies she was charged with creating, promoting, and enforcing," and cannot be excused as merely a statement of her own views as a private citizen.
And then this week, on the first day of its 2014 term, the Supreme Court let stand the appeals court ruling, meaning that Dixon's accusation that the university violated her constitutional rights appears unwarranted.
She’s out. And that’s good.

Top Chef is back and they're in new Orleans.
Last week was week One, meet the chefs week and I laughed watching them all discuss their accomplishments.
Head Chef at a James Beard award-winning restaurant! Head chef at a restaurant that got a high Michelin rating! Voted Sexiest Chef in Chicago!
Huh?
Yeah, that's how Jason Cichonski introduced himself to the audience. Not a great chef, an award-winning chef, an inventive chef, but a sexy chef.
M'kay.

But, speaking of sexy, i was channel flipping Monday and was halted by one Brant Daugherty on Dancing With The Stars,
He was so adorable, such a winning smile, that I almost stuck around to watch that cheesefest.
Almost.
Still .... he's all kinds'o'cute.

Onto one Elisa Chan.
She’s the San Antonio Councilwoman who made headlines back in August for her recorded anti-gay comments in which she called gays 'disgusting' and unfit to be parents.
Well, she seems to think the people of San Antonio need her in higher office and this week she submitted her letter of recommendation in order to seek the office of Senator of District 25.
In a letter to Mayor Julián Castro, Chan said she was proud of San Antonio and "what we have accomplished":
"I have done my best to represent the conservative values of these fine people. The people of this district take an active role in deciding policy, giving their input, volunteering their time and listening to the views of their neighbors."
But not the gay ones, I’m guessing.
Really San Antonio? You aren’t gonna let this happen, are you?

Pat Robertson is such a delusional fuckmonkey that he’s barely worth mentioning, but every so often he says something so ludicrous, that it bears discussing just to remind folks that he’s as dumb as a box of rocks.
Discussing the new protections for transgender students in California—which Patty called “absurd”—he simply admitted that he doesn’t fully understand what it means to be transgender. In fact, he compared transgender people to his castrated horse:
“Now, we talk about transgender, I have a former stallion who is now a gelding, because stallions get very aggressive. But he wasn’t trying to be a girl, we just made him into a less aggressive male. And I want you to see him! He’s big and beautiful!”
And still the, ahem, cough, cough, Christian Broadcasting Network keeps this delusional fuckmonkey on the payroll.
Go figure.

Random Musings

Okay, so y'all know I'm no fan of Mittsy Romney, right? i mean, his campaign, between the gaffes, the lies and the flip-flops, was a blogger heaven. I relished every single Why Mittsy? post, and every The Height Of GOP Stupidity entry, but now?
I'm moving on.
There are a lot of posts about what he said in his concession speech and what he didn't say and how he said it or didn't say it and what he meant. A lot of nit-picking about the how and why he lost.
But not from me.
I'm'a take a page from our newly elected President, and I'm'a move....
Forward.
Well, you knew it would happen. You knew Mama Grizzly Bore™ would snow-shoe over to F**ksNews on election night to stir up her own brand of crazy.
But what you may not have known is what she would look like.
Mall hair, frosted lip gloss.
I couldn’t tell if she was auditioning for the touring company of Broadway’s Xanadu, or starring in a new version of that Fox classic: Married With Homophobic and Unwed pregnant Children.
Or maybe she was channeling her inner meth head.
Either way, could you imagine that as Veep?
Dodged.A.Bullet.
Is it me, or does anyone else think Michael Feinstein, Liza Minnelli and Carol Channing all have the same voice. Think about it—Google them if you have no idea who I’m talking about, though you should slap yourself first.
I want to throw a dinner party and invite these there just to listen to them speak. And to make sure they aren’t the same person.
Lizaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
I spent a good deal of time yesterday reveling in the election results, especially the LGBT friendly results all across this country. So, today, I’d like to point out the asshat who, well, got their asses handed to them by the voters:
Tea Party freshman Representative Allen West, who has claimed that there are 80 communists posing as Democrats in the US House, won't have to worry about that a minute longer.
He’s out.
Former Hawaii Governor, Linda Lingle, is also out.
Lingle once compared same-sex marriage to incest, and once, while governor, invited a group of LGBT Hawaiians into her office so she could veto a civil union bill right in front of them, lost her bid to the US Senate.
Snap.
You be the judge:
Carlos and I watched the movie 50/50 the other night, where the absolutely adorkable, Joseph Gordon-Leavitt  plays a young man with cancer. During the film, there was a reference to Terms of Endearment, and later I noticed how much Angelica Huston—who played the mother—looked like MacLaine.
I drove Carlos insane every time Huston appeared onscreen, by pausing the movie and shrieking, “Isn’t that Shirley MacLaine?”
More great news from Election Day:
Alan Grayson, one loudest, smartest, and most progressive members of the US House is back, baby, winning his race in Florida on Tuesday night over his Republican challenger Todd Long.
Grayson was first elected in 2008, but lost in the Tea Party wave of 2010 by 18 points. This time, however, he bested his opponent by 25 points—a 43 point swing—one of the biggest records in history.

I Didn't Say It....

Alan Grayson, former Congressman, on what the 'Occupy Wall Street' protests are about:
"They're complaining about the fact that Wall Street wrecked the economy three years ago and nobody's been held responsible for that. Not a single person has been indicted or convicted for destroying 20% of our national net worth accumulated over the course of two centuries. They're upset about the fact that Wall Street has iron control over the economic policies of this country, and that one part is a wholly owned subsidiary of Wall Street and the other party caters to them as well!"

There you have it.
Plain and simple.
Leave it to Grayson to just spell it out without the rhetoric.

Michael Keegan, head of People For The American Way, on Mitt Romney's condemnation of Bryan Fischer--even while never mentioning Fischer by name:
"Mitt Romney clearly realized that his presidential campaign couldn’t ignore the bigotry of Bryan Fischer and the American Family Association. I’m glad that he saw fit to put at least a small distance between himself and the hate speech regularly pushed by Fischer, even if he couldn’t bring himself to call Fischer out by name. Since he began running for President, Mitt Romney has bent over backwards in a desperate attempt to make himself palatable to the extreme right. At least we’ve seen that there are some things he’s willing to speak out against, no matter how tepid his condemnation may be. It’s disappointing that none of the other candidates have been willing to go even that far."

Maybe Mittsy is finally realizing that hate is hate. I mean Bryan Fischer hates Mormons as much as he hates the Gays.
And the Jews.
And the Muslims.
And the Black community.

Andrew Sullivan, on MGB not running for president:
"So she's bowing out. Call it cowardice; call it a rare example of sanity; call it a bizarre end to an even weirder game of hide and seek for the past few months. But the bottom line is: we can stop worrying about the threat she posed to this country. That is all I really cared about: the insane gamble with the world that John McCain foisted on us, with no vetting and no reason but desperation and cynicism. It is hard to describe the relief of this awful person finally going away."

The sad fact, however, is that she won't ever really go away because she thinks some folks want to hear her asinine opinions, and watch her asinine shows, and follow her asinine family.
She quite because she can make more money being an ass, which is a sad commentary on our country.

Neil Patrick Harris, on how to survive in Hollywood:
"Actually, the secret to surviving Hollywood is fairly obvious. Costar in a major motion picture with Whoopi Goldberg, accept the leading role on a television at 16, disappear for a while, surfacing only for the occasional TV movie or animated children's series, send up your image in a cultish stoner movie, play a womanizing scoundrel on a hit TV show, come out of the closet to millions of people, become a father of twins, and then take over the world. Sounds pretty simple to me...."

And I think he's on the right track to total NPH domination.
Woo! Hoo!

Ben Stein, Teabagger and hasbeen actor, on Occupy Wall Street:
"The next step, I am sure, by the way, for the Occupy Wall Street crowd is for Anderson Cooper, Bill Maher, and Jon Stewart, the trifecta of conventional wisdom's failed liberalism, to come down to Wall Street and join the masses in demanding more of our tax money so they can all be supported as novelists and movie directors. You poor kids. You are basically asking to be supported and taken care of by Mommy and Daddy. Wake up, kids. Wall Street is you, with all of your wants and needs and wishes, only they have the balls to go out and work for it. Sometimes they are crooks and sometimes they are fools -- but you know what? So are all of us. Listen to Mr. Cain. Shut up and get to work."

Blame the havenots for not having, while banks and brokers become multi-billionaires on their backs.
I guess it's okay to steal and rob from the poor because you, um, worked at it.
You're an asshat, Mister Stein.

R. Clark Cooper, head of the Log Cabin Republicans, responding to Herman Cain's assertion that homosexuality is a choice:
"If Herman Cain truly wants to see the science proving that sexual orientation is not a choice, Log Cabin Republicans would be happy to show it to him. The claim that a person chooses to be gay or lesbian has been discredited by every major professional medical organization, starting with the American Psychological Association and the American Medical Association. An individual’s orientation is no more a choice than the color of his skin or whether he is left-handed, and too many people have been hurt because of failed attempts to change the way they were born."

Herman Cain is that typical Republican, like Bachmann and Perry before him, and the asshats that will surely follow, who won't believe anything that doesn't suit their political agenda and aspirations, even with evidence right under their nose.
You cannot teach an old stupid GOP dog a new trick.

Rachel Maddow, on gay marriage:
"I feel that gay people not being able to get married for generations, forever, meant that we came up with alternative ways of recognizing relationships. And I worry that if everybody has access to the same institutions that we lose the creativity of subcultures having to make it on their own. And I like gay culture."

I kind of disagree with Maddow here.
i don't think fighting for the right to be married means we must all get married. It simply means we have the same rights as everyone else.
To form some sort of traditional marital bond, or do as Maddow has done, find a new way to have her relationship recognized.
We don't have to get married, but we do have the right to do so if we choose.

Courtney Love, on how she might react if Kurt Cobain came back to life:
"Mad? Ya think?! If he came back right now I’d have to kill him, for what he did to us. I’d f–king kill him. I’d f–k him, and then I’d kill him...He tried to kill himself three times!...He OD’d at least five times. I was the fucking E.M.S. I was always sticking pins in his balls. I carried around Narcan!”

She's quite the victim of Cobain's addictions, and the hero of them as well.
Love likes to rewrite history.
The sad thing is that even after she rewrites it, she rewrites it again and again so you'll never know what she actually means.

Mat Staver, head of Liberty Counsel and dean of Liberty University’s law school, on the "gay threat":
"We are facing the survival of western values, western civilization. And I think those survival, whether they win or lose, what will the future of America be will be determined in our lifetime…. One of the most significant threats to our freedom is in the area of sexual anarchy with the agenda of the homosexual movement, the so-called LGBT movement. It does several things, first of all it undermines family and the very first building block of our society, but secondly, it’s a zero sum game as well and it’s a direct assault on our religious freedom and freedom of speech."

So, in order to protect your freedoms, Mat, you work to denigrate, demoralize, and humiliate the LGBT community?
You work to deny us our freedoms in order to, in your words, protect yours?
STFU asshat.

Barney Frank, firing back at Newt "Serial Adulterer" Gingrich, after Gingrich said he should be jailed:
"I wish I knew that he was willing to listen to my advice, I would have given him some: I would have told him not to impeach Clinton, I would have told his successors not to go to war with Iraq, and I would have told DeLay not to go on the dance show. He’s been having a bad year, you know — this self-styled intellectual leader of the free world struggling to stay ahead of Michele Bachmann in the polls is unsettling him so he talks even sillier than he sometimes does."

Poor Newt, nothing going for him, no chancre at ever being elected to public office again, a possible divorce in his future--let's face it, he's a three-time loser at marriage--so he has to make idiotic statements just to get noticed.
Must be hard for Newty, realizing a pizza-maker, a Minnesota wingnut, and a Texas Bush 3, get more press.

Anita Perry, saying that her husband is being targeted for his devout faith:
"It’s been a rough month. We have been brutalized and beaten up and chewed up in the press to where I need this today. We are being brutalized by our opponents, and our own party. So much of that is, I think they look at him, because of his faith. He is the only true conservative – well, there are some true conservatives. And they’re there for good reasons. And they may feel like God called them too. But I truly feel like we are here for that purpose."

Oh Anita, you think it'd get any easier if your idiot husband was prewsident.
Delsuional? Meet Anita.
And, um, Anita, nealry all the recent front-runners of the GOP presidential field say that God called them to be president, so either God can't make up her mind or she's playing a coloosal joke on y'all.

I Didn't Say It....

Kathy Griffin, on Elisabeth "DimBulb" Hasselbeck's reaction to her joke about Scott Brown's daughters:
"Now I have to send Elisabeth Hasselbeck two muffin baskets because she confronted me when I was a guest on the show two weeks ago and then this morning she called me 'scum.' I have to send two baskets because as a comedian, I'm loving it. You have to remember that the genesis of that whole joke about Scott Brown was that when he won the election he famously said, 'My two daughters are available.' Then he was called a 'pimp' in the Washington press....The bottom line is, lighten up! Suck it! As the great Bette Midler said, 'Fuck 'em if they can't take a joke.'"

Poor Elisabeth.
She played right into Kathy's hand.
Asshat.

Congressman Alan Grayson, on Republican resistance to extending unemployment benefits:
"The Republicans have been after all three of those programs ever since 1935. They got welfare a few years ago, because that's poor people. They could jump on them. But unemployment and Social Security is middle-class people--they haven't been able to get them, but it isn't because they're not willing to try....Now, I know what the Republicans are thinking. They're thinking why don't they just sell some stock....If they're in really dire straits, maybe they could take some of their art collection and send it off to the auctioneer. And if they're in deep, deep trouble maybe these unemployed can sell one of their yachts....And I will say this to the Republicans who have blocked this bill now for months and kept food out of the mouths of children. I will say to them now, may God have mercy on your souls."

The more he speaks the more I like him.

Meredith Baxter, on coming out as gay:
“I thought I might put an ad in the paper, kind of like a little birth announcement that would say, 'OK, I'm gay – Meredith...[but]...When it became apparent that this was not in my control any longer I was put in touch with the lovely Howard Bragman and he sort of put things into motion in ways that I thought was way over the top...an article in...People Magazine....followed by on air with Matt Lauer saying to national television 'hello im a lesbian!'...It was not in my plan but I will say that an enormous amount of relief followed that. I didn't expect it. I didn't know to look for that. I didn't know to want that. But now the feeling is 'Fuck it. Everyone knows. I don't have to worry about anything.'"

Nor should they. Being gay is nothing to worry about.

Miss New York 2010, Claire Buffie, on her reign being run on a gay rights platform:
"I fell like gay rights are the civil rights movement of my generation, and I think it's really important to have straight ally support because any time you want to effect a change with a minority you have to have support from the majority, and I'm that voice now...My older sister Sarah is a lesbian, but in addition to her, I grew up in the performing arts. So many of my friends are LGBT, and it's my duty as a straight ally to represent them."

After Carrie Prejean, it's nice to see a beauty queen with brains and beauty, rather than a limited, homophobic, wiorld view.
Have a good logn reign, Claire.

Nicolas Cage, on doing drugs with his cat:
"I had a bag of mushrooms in my refrigerator. My cat used to sneak into the refrigerator and eat them. The cat ate them voraciously, so I thought what the heck, I better do it with him. I remember lying on my bed for hours and Lewis was on the desk across my bed and we just stared at each other for hours – not moving, just staring at each other, and I had no doubt that he was my brother… But having said that I don’t do that anymore. And you know what, later in life when I was completely not doing any of that, I know he said hi to me."

He is all kinds of crazy. All kinds.

Javier Bardem, on his crush, Brad Pitt:
"I had the great opportunity to meet Brad a couple of times…what a beauty. He is beautiful and his physicality is so amazing to see. But the beauty really comes from different places - the way he talks, the way he's interested in what you're saying. And that body is like - wow. It's amazing, no? He really made me feel very, like…I don't know, like, I could fall in love with him! Like a teenage girl getting crazy and going [screams] like that. I met him only twice but I would say it's a good self. And that is when the beauty comes voom!"

I can't help but think of being the meat in a Bardem-Pitt sandwich.

Hillary Clinton, on Chelsea's upcoming wedding:
"It says a lot about this wonderful experiment known as America, where we recognize the right that every single person has to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and over the years so many of the barriers that prevented people from getting married — crossing lines of faith or color or ethnicity — have just disappeared."

Well, Hill, we don';t atctually recognize the rights of every single person.
Some of are still less than.

Michael Bloomberg, on The Grizzly Bore's Tweet-a-Thon regarding the building of a mosque near ground Zero in New York:
"Everything that the United States stands for and New York stands for is tolerance and openness and I think it's a great message for the world that unlike another place where they might actually ban people from wearing a an item or they might actually keep people from building a building, that's not what America was founded on nor is it what America should become."
And he went on to add that the Grizzly Bore does thrive on using her freedom of speech.....though, for me, she uses it to try and restrict the Freedom of Speech and the Freedom of [and from] Religion to which we are all entitled.

More Wise Words From Alan Grayson

Congressman Alan Grayson introduced a bill to cut separate funding for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and use the money to eliminate federal income taxes on every American's first $35,000 of income.
Cosponsors of his bill include Ron Paul, Walter Jones, John Conyers, Lynn Woolsey, and Dennis Kucinich.
It'll never hapen, but it's nice to see someone trying.

I Didn't Say It......

Constance McMillen, the lesbian student whose prom was cancelled because she wanted to wear a tuxedo and bring her girlfriend:
"Anytime I feel like this is too hard, I think about the support I'm getting. And I’m just ecstatic that so many people would come together like this. I never dreamed there could be so much support out there for me. It’s just amazing. I’m so thankful... The locals don’t like me, but I can’t help it. And things were really hostile in school last week after they cancelled prom. People were rude, and if people talked to me at all it was real short answers. There are a few people who are with me, my real friends, people who are intelligent enough to realize what's really going on here."

Henry Rollins, in Vanity Fair:
"Let the record speak for itself. The Catholic Church does not approve of homosexuality; their position on pedophilia, however, is not as clear. I am sure most Catholics do not approve of pedophilia, but the executive branch of Catholicism seems to have difficulty convincing some of us that they are willing to do what is necessary to make sure that the members of their staff who are active sexual predators are brought to justice."I can't see any sane person not wanting someone who harms innocent children taken out of circulation as soon as possible. Relocating them is tantamount to enabling them further. Maybe there should be a television show called To Catch A Priest. I'll watch. I think the expulsion of this child from the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School is the best break the parents could have hoped for. Children should be raised in an environment of kindness and encouragement, not discrimination and ignorance."

Florida Congressman Alan Grayson, responding to Sarah Palin's attack on him:
"As the Knave's horse says in Alice in Wonderland, 'dogs will believe anything.' I'm sure Sarah Palin knows all about politics in Central Florida, since from her porch she can see Winter Park. I look forward to an honest debate with Governor Palin on the issues, in the unlikely event that she ever learns anything about them."

Arizona GOP Senate candidate and wingnut radio host JD Hayworth, comparing same-sex marriage to horse fucking:
"You see, the Massachusetts Supreme Court, when it started this move toward same-sex marriage, actually defined marriage -- now get this -- it defined marriage as simply, 'the establishment of intimacy.' Now how dangerous is that? I mean, I don't mean to be absurd about it, but I guess I can make the point of absurdity with an absurd point -- I guess that would mean if you really had affection for your horse, I guess you could marry your horse. It's just the wrong way to go, and the only way to protect the institution of marriage is with that federal marriage amendment that I support."

Iowa Family Policy Center's Chuck Hurley, anti-gay wingnut, citing a report this week by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control that showed gay men have higher rates of HIV and syphilis:
"The Iowa Legislature outlawed smoking in an effort to improve health and reduce the medical costs that are often passed on to the state. The secondhand impacts of certain homosexual acts are arguably more destructive, and potentially more costly to society than smoking. Homosexual activity is certainly more dangerous for the individuals who engage in it than is smoking....Because of their (legislators) unwillingness to correct the error of last April’s Iowa Supreme Court opinion, the Iowa Legislature is responsible for sanctioning activities that will lead to dramatically higher rates of HIV and syphilis in Iowa."

Josh Brolin, on playing Dan White in Milk:
"To me, when I look at a character, what makes it interesting for me is: What’s the redeeming value of who the person is, and how far did they have to jump to do the awful thing that they’ve done? I’d heard the confession of Dan White, and a very revealing thing for me was, he kept saying — this was an hour and a half after after he killed Harvey Milk and Mayor Moscone. His fingertips were very hot. He remembers, from one shooting to the other, from walking across the City Hall, from Moscone's office to Harvey's office, that his fingertips were, uh, hot. I thought that was an interesting thing...I don’t like killing, as an actor. When I shot Sean Penn’s character in 'Milk,' there was a lot of joking going on at the moment because we couldn’t deal with the intensity of it. I would much rather be the person dying than the person killing."

Archbishop Desmond Tutu on hate:
"Hate has no place in the house of God. No one should be excluded from our love, our compassion or our concern because of race or gender, faith or ethnicity -- or because of their sexual orientation. Nor should anyone be excluded from health care on any of these grounds."

GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios on the cancellation of a gay storyline on One Life to Live:
“Last summer, One Life to Live brought a ground-breaking relationship into the homes of millions with Kyle and Fish’s story, one that built acceptance and understanding of gay people,. While we understand that the close of storylines is a frequent occurrence on daytime dramas, canceling this story just as it gains momentum is a step backward in ABC Daytime’s representation of the lives of gay Americans.”

Johnny Weir, on reports that the 'Stars on Ice Tour' is refusing to invite him:
“It’s for real. All because I am not family friendly enough. I understand I am a little outrageous but I wish I could perform for the fans...Maybe right now, just artistically and creatively, I’d love to have my own show, with musical acts, like maybe getting Lady Gaga! I don’t like to think there are any boundaries. Anytime you get men in glitter it’s flamboyant!”

Archbishop Charles Chaput, defending the Colorado school that denied re-enrollment to a boy because he has two mommies:
"The Church does not claim that people with a homosexual orientation are 'bad,' or that their children are less loved by God. Quite the opposite. But what the Church does teach is that sexual intimacy by anyone outside marriage is wrong; that marriage is a sacramental covenant; and that marriage can only occur between a man and a woman. These beliefs are central to a Catholic understanding of human nature, family and happiness, and the organization of society. The Church cannot change these teachings because, in the faith of Catholics, they are the teachings of Jesus Christ. [He added people with a different understanding of marriage and family life] have other, excellent options for education and should see in them the better course for their children."
