Score Another One For Our Side: _____'s Muslim Ban Raises Money For Syrian Refugees

Every once in a while something good come out of something hateful ....

Kal Penn, an actor best known for roles in Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle and TV’s Designated Survivor, as well as the former Associate Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement under President Barack Obama, recently received a particularly hate-filled Tweet after Hair Furor’s Muslim Ban went into effect.

Kal Penn thought of responding, then thought better of it, and instead Tweeted out that he had set up a crowdfunding site for Syrian refugees, hoping to raise a few thousand dollars:

“To the dude who said I don't belong in America, I started a fundraising page for Syrian Refugees in your name. Donating To Syrian Refugees In The Name Of The Dude Who Said I Don't Belong In America"

He reached his goal of a few thousand dollars in just twenty minutes and as of this morning he had raised over ... wait for it ... $850,000!

He said he was surprised but then perhaps he shouldn’t have been because he knows that most people ... most people ... understand that banning people from our country who have had considerably more serious “vetting” done to them than any single one of the people in Trump’s staff or cabinet posts, is un-American.

And as the cash poured in—with people making donations under names like “Chief Strategist Steve Bannon,” “#Saynotobigotry,” “Tiny Trump Hands,” “Paul Ryan’s Lost Testicles,” “Mike Pence,” and “Donald ClownfaceVonf---stick Trump” — Penn gave updates on Twitter as he also continued to raise the goal.

Stop over and give a little if you like because it just proves that, while _____ and his band of white nationalists thinks they’re on the right side, the truth is that they are not.

So score another one for the Resistance.

Can I Get An Amen: A 95-Year-Old Holocaust Survivor Funds Rescue Of 2,000 ISIS Victims

George Weidenfeld is a Holocaust survivor, able to escape death in 1938 due to the kindness of the Plymouth Brethren and Quakers, Christian strangers who clothed him and fed him and helped his escape to Great Britain.  And when he arrived in Britain, Weidenfeld had just a few shillings to his name, but within a decade he had established the Weidenfeld and Nicholson publishing business.

And he never forgot that kindness of those strangers, so now, some seventy-seven years later, he is, as he calls it, ‘repaying a debt’ by aiding in the escape of 2,000 Middle-Eastern Christians from ISIS.

Weidenfeld, a member of Britain’s House of Lords since 1976, oversees the Weidenfeld Safe Havens Fund, which was able to support 150 Syrian Christians escape to Poland a few weeks ago.  

“I had a debt to repay. It applies to so many young people who were on the Kinderstransport. It was very high-minded operation and we Jews should also be thankful and do something for the endangered Christians.”

The kinderstransport is what the Germans named the organized shipment of Jewish children, often times by their own parents, to help them escape the Holocaust.

And so he is; the Weidenfeld Safe Havens Fund aims to help 2,000 Syrian refugees and is set to offer them 12-18 months of paid support for all the rescues.

And all because George Weidenfeld never forgot.

The Daily Hypocrite: Governor Rick Snyder

Some folks just want to be first in line for hate.

Take Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, for instance. He was the first of more than thirty — mostly Republican — governors hoping to block the resettlement of Syrian refugees in their states.

But, as happens with these haters, Snyder has difficulty explaining it. See, he was asked about his specific concerns regarding the current two-year screening process for refugees seeking to enter  this country and was unable to point to a single problem with it:

“I wouldn’t single out any specific problem I have with it.”

And yet he’s saying it doesn’t work and needs to be fixed because … Muslim. And he's saying he wants a  review of the process with which he can find no fault  in light of the recent terrorist attacks in Paris, a suicide bombing in Beirut, and the bombing of a plane over Egypt:

“When you have these events it does make sense to pause and simply say, ‘Let’s continue looking at these events. I really want the federal government to come back and say, ‘We have now made a review of these, at least three situations, and believe that our current system is acceptable – or not and that they’re making some modifications.’”

But when Snyder was reminded about the way people from Western Europe enter this country — they don’t even need to apply for a Visa — he replied:

 “Well I wouldn’t necessarily [limit the entry of tourists]. This is a particular case, this refugee process, where there is a high degree of concern.”

Odd, because none of the attackers, at least in Paris, were refugees, but were … wait for it, it’s rich ... citizens of, yes, Western Europe; and any of those people could have easily entered this country, but then again, Muslim.

Hate; it’s apparently the new ‘In’ thing in parts of this country because so many are lining up to join in.
