Architecture Wednesday: Napa Valley Vineyard Estate

To be fair, I could live in a lot of places around the world, but there is one place that I lived very close to that always draws me back: Napa Valley, California.

It’s the weather, it’s the valley, and, yeah, it’s the wine. And this week it’s this gorgeous Napa Valley vineyard estate because it’s stunning, it has gorgeous views, and is surrounded by vineyards; the wine is seriously close. In fact, the house sits on 3.62 acres and the vineyard is 3 acres … three acres of wine!!

I know … enough with the wine.

It’s a large home, right around 6,000 square feet, with five bedrooms—each with its own bathroom—and two half baths, a great room for living and dining—with a monstrous wine room at one end and a monstrous fireplace at the other. The kitchen and family room open up to the pool deak, the outdolor kitchen, and the outdoor bar.

Outdoor bar. Are they trying to get me to drain the bank account for this one??

Architecture Wednesday: A Home in Wine Country

There are few places I like more on earth than the Napa Valley … and not just because of the wine, though that’s a big part of it. Napa is everything, rich and poor, conservative and quirky, peaceful and bustling. So that’s what brings me to this house, on a hillside, down a meandering drive, above the valley; a modern. open airy retreat that screams California indoor-outdoor living.

And, yeah, again, wine.

The house sits on twenty-one acres of oak-studded meadow and is a hair under 5,000 square feet with five bedrooms and four bathrooms. There is a huge great room, with windows on both sides, one side opening to a massive terrace, firepit  and pool, and those views. An open kitchen, with what is called a working kitchen behind, with more storage and spaces to work so that the main kitchen doesn’t look messy when guests arrive; who wants that? There’s a simple calming master bedroom with a fabulous bath and soaking tub with views. A two-story wine cellar with a glass floor from the top half into the lower half, located on the lower level of the home.

So, I guess it is the wine for me.

Architecture Wednesday: Wine Country Farmhouse Cabin

I love wine. I love a pretty house. I love a pretty house in wine country.

This home, located in St. Helena, in California’s wine country is perfect for me; rustic, sleek, stylish. Originally the home was built as a guesthouse to the main building—which begs the question, how fabulous is the main house?—but once the owners saw the finished product, this became the main residence for their stays in California.

The home is just 1,200 square feet but feels much more spacious thanks to the site and the views from the home and the ample porches. Inside, high ceilings adds to the feeling of spaciousness, with 24-foot vaulted ceilings in the main room supported by roughhewn wooden pillars and a simple, clean decor scheme that sticks to woodsy, neutral tones of reclaimed wood walls, and ceilings and naturally colored concrete floors.

As if the inside isn’t appealing enough, there is the wrap-around veranda with several seating areas to sit and sip and relax.

Like I said, wine country cabin. I’m sold.
