Architecture Wednesday: Casa Nido

Casa Nido is a renovated single-family home in the city of San Fernando, a mile away from Rio de la Plata, in the province of Buenos Aires.

Latino! Check!

The original house exterior was saved, respecting the Art Deco style of the home, but anew home was created on two floors inside the structure.

Preservation! Check!

It has an enclosed patio at the front that opens onto the living-dining room, then the kitchen, which open to the back garden for cross-ventilation through the home. Entering the home, you come across  another green space under the light iron-mesh staircase, that calls to mind the front patio as well as the back garden. The plaster on many of the walls was removed to expose the brick, and both the front and back walls of the house, including the main door, were worked into the home in black iron, continuing with the manufacturing line.

Outdoor spaces! Check!

It’s not big; the living and dining and kitchen, as well as a powder room,  take up the main floor, while upstairs is a very generous primary bedroom, bath and massive closet, as well as a balcony overlooking the back garden, along with two secondary bedrooms and another bathroom.

Check!

I think it needs a pool, but other than that when can I move in?

Architecture Wednesday: LLM House

This modern, open, expansive home in São José dos Campos, Brazil sit on a sloping plot of land that also had a large number of native trees that could not be removed, so the architects worked around the trees and down the hill to create this gorgeous home.

Not such an easy task with a home that spans a little over 12,000 square feet. The home was arranged on the hillside so that all areas, the main floor great room, the family room had a relationship with the landscape, decks, pool jungle, and river below. comprehensive views and greater intensity of light. The more intimate bedrooms and baths were set below the treetops, forming a courtyard with tree trunks.

I am in love with the openness—though the size is daunting—and the views, the pool, the kitchen, that bathtub un the master and, okay, I love it all.

Architecture Wednesday: Nomades House

This one kind of screams getaway … as in get away from here I’m on vacation.

It’s an irregular piece of land in Barra Grande in the Brazilian state of Piauí, and so it needed an equally irregular floorplan and roof.

The rustic aspect of the house is achieved through the piassaba roof as well as the heavy timbers, stone and white brickwork, most created by local artisans. Everything opens and integrates itself, making the indoor areas, the terraces, patios and pool deck nearly indistinguishable.

I feel like Carlos and I could play Blue Lagoon there, though we’d probably fight about who gets to be Brooke Shields and who gets to be Christopher Atkins.

Oh hell, who am I kidding, we’d both be Christopher Atkins.
