This Bitch: Is Not Working For The People

Arizona’s DINO—Democrat In Name Only—Senator,  Kyrsten Sinema, spit in the face of Democrats, and 705 of Americans, who wanted to see changes to the filibuster that would allow voting rights legislation, said last week that she both supports the legislation itself and the 60-vote threshold that is keeping its passage an impossibility.

She’s trying to play you all that she wants to help but her hands are tied, and that is yet another lie from Sinema.

In a floor speech, the Arizona Democrat portrayed the Senate’s rule allowing members to block debate on legislation with a 41-vote minority as a necessary tool for safeguarding democracy in a time of unprecedented political divisions.

“I strongly support, and will continue to vote for legislative responses to these state laws. [But] I will not support separate actions that worsen the underlying disease of division infecting our country.”

She supports voting rights but won’t vote for the one way to pass voting rights because she believes in bipartisanship and yet not one single Republican will cross the aisle.

And keep in mind that she is allowing 41 people out of 100, a minority, to run this country

Sidenote: Arizona is coming for you and you’re not going to be able to lie your way out of this, and all that corporate money you took, that you swore you’d never take, won’t help you each.

A Simple Sneeze Killed Anti-LGBT Legislation

Last week, with just three minutes to spare in Utah's legislative session, Republican, of course, Senator Lavar Christensen [top] introduced an anti-gay amendment that would have barred same-sex couples from being joint tenants for tax purposes.

The bill, Senate Bill 252, had already passed the Senate once, but because Christensen amended it in the House, Utah senators needed to concur with the changes. So, Senator Curt Bramble introduced the bill, and then Senate President Wayne Niederhauser [middle] asked for a roll call vote.

And then there was a sneeze. See, when the clerk called the on Democratic Senator Jim Dabakis [bottom], the only openly gay member of the Utah Legislature, he took his time to cast his vote; he cleared his throat; he sneezed; then he kinda fumble his words and stopped to think about how he might vote.

Senate President Wayne Niederhauser saw what Dabakis was doing and said:

"Passing, passing, go to the next one. C'mon, let's go." 

All of the other senators had voted, and so the clerk called on Niederhauser to vote and he said:

"Aye, but we ran out of time. All right, we're done."  

The bill didn’t pass because of a sneeze and a cough and a stammer. Jim Dabakis took to Facebook to tell the tale:

“My mini-filibuster. What they did was very mean-spirited! SB 252 was a low blow anti-LGBT bill. It was pulled off the board at 11:57 PM. The session ends at midnight. As they rushed this redneck-pleasing, bad bill through, there was only one minute left to vote. Roll Call Vote. When it came my time to vote — I had to deliberate. A long time. Until the session ended! … The ham-fisted attempt to pass the bill under the radar was at least sneaky and tacky, trying to exclude our Utah same sex married couples from the law. And if it had passed, it most likely would have cost taxpayers hundreds of thousands in a lawsuit. Tacky.”

Tacky, but stopped by a sneeze … for now.

Mitch McConnell: Fighting Against Gun Control Because He's In The Pocket Of The NRA

What’s the deal with gun control? Why is the idea of background checks, and of keeping guns out of the hands of, oh, I dunno, criminals and crazies, such a bad thing?

I mean, surely the majority of Americans are sick and tired of reading about school shooting and mall massacres and want something done about it. Even the President is fighting for some kind of gun control; control, remember, not confiscation, so wipe that NRA lie from your mind.

But, while we argue, and while more folks die from gun-related deaths, Senate Minority Leader, and In-The-Pocket-Of-The-NRA-Republican, Mitch McConnell has announced via spokes-tool that he will filibuster the gun package that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid wants to bring up.

McConnell spokesman Don Stewart: "Sen. McConnell opposes the Reid bill, while nobody knows yet what Sen. Reid’s plan is for the gun bill, if he chooses to file cloture [The only procedure by which the Senate can vote to place a time limit on consideration of a bill and thereby overcome a filibuster.] on the motion to proceed to the Reid bill, Sen. McConnell will oppose cloture on proceeding tot that bill.”

Let's backtrack a minute, shall we? McConnell says he opposes the Reid bill yet does not know what the plan for the bill might be? So, he's gonna filibuster and fight for something that he doesn't know about yet? Why?

NRA money. I mean what else could it be? Why else would you want to run roughshod over a discussion of a bill about which you know nothing, unless you are afraid of pissing off the money guys? Or the Teabaggers.

See, McConnell is the fifteenth Republican to jump on the bandwagon of the filibuster effort being led by Tea Party asshat Rand Paul. He could have chosen to stay out of it, letting the votes happen on the gun package, and thereby putting the pressure on House Speaker John Boehner to decide the bill's fate, if it even made it out of the Senate. Instead, McConnell is making a calculated decision to be part of the filibuster effort that could derail the entire push for gun control legislation.

No gun control, in a country that has been decimated by guns. Ask yourself why. Why not background checks? Why not tighter controls on where and when and by who guns can be bought and sold.

Then ask yourself why Mitch McConnell doesn’t care about gun control. Perhaps it’s the $19,000 the NRA donated McConnell, the largest donation to any member of Congress. Seems pretty clear, to Mitch McConnell gun deaths are less important than campaign contributions.
