Sandra Bullock, on rumors she's dating Captain America, Chris Evans:

"We’ve since married and it started breaking apart, so we separated. We filed for divorce, and I hope everyone can respect our privacy. But we’re going to remain friends and share responsibility of the farm animals we’ve taken on, because you just can’t abandon the animals."

I love that she turns it into the usual Hollywood spin, as a joke.

But, yum, Chris Evans; if it’s true she’s one lucky girl!

Barbara Crabb, federal judge, in her marriage equality decision for Wisconsin:

“This case is not about whether marriages between same-sex couples are consistent or inconsistent with the teachings of a particular religion, whether such marriages are moral or immoral or whether they are something that should be encouraged or discouraged…. Quite simply, this case is about liberty and equality, the two cornerstones of the rights protected by the United States Constitution. ... Civil marriage is a legal construct, not a biological rule of nature, so it can be and has been changed over the years.”

Snap. I hope other judges in other states read her ruling and understand it.

Gordon Klingenschmitt, former Navy chaplain and current candidate for Colorado’s District 15, praising the baker who refused to service a same-sex couple:

"By endorsing their sin he would not be showing compassion to them; he would be showing cruelty. So the ultimate hate speech is to endorse homosexuality because you give them the impression that it's okay and that deceives them and ultimately trips them into Hell."

So, let me get this queer, if the baker had baked the cake as ordered, he would have been cruel, but by saying he doesn’t like The Gays he’s showing compassion?

Sit down, Gordon, your stupidity is showing.

Channing Tatum, taking over for Jonah Hill on his Gay Slur Apology Tour:

"I'll jump in and just say that I think most of the time when people have to go on and sort of apologize for something it might not come off all that well because it's not actually like what they mean. I can honestly say that is not who he is. It came off well and he did it well because he really means it, that wasn’t who he was that day."

First off, Channing, if you think it comes off as a bit insincere when the apology goes on and on, how insincere do you think it seems when a friend joins that tour?

Plus, you say it wasn’t who Jonah was that day, but, in fact, it was, because he said it.

Why don’t y’all just move on? We accept his apology.

Pete Cahall, principal as Wilson High School, who came out as gay last week, on how he feels now:

"I’ve stepped up to the microphone to address my students hundreds of times before. But this was different. My hands were sweaty; I was shaking. I’m the principal of Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington, D.C. Last Thursday, I stood in front of a thousand people, including my students, teachers, even D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray, and came out. 'I’m a proud gay man,' I said. 'And I just happen to be the principal of Woodrow Wilson High School.' It was the first time I’d ever talked publicly about my sexuality — I’d never even discussed it with my family. When I made my announcement, there were cheers. Afterward, kids came up and hugged me. The next day, parents and students gave me a five-minute standing ovation. I’ve gotten thousands of e-mails, texts, and Facebook messages from educators all over the world. I’ve heard from parents of gay and lesbian students in high school who’ve attempted suicide. They say, 'I just wish my kid could be a student in your school.' I’ve heard from the kids who used to bully me. Still, I haven’t talked to my parents about it."

Every single person that comes out makes a difference; sometimes big differences, sometimes small.

But it makes a difference and changes the world for the better.

Tony Perkins Wants Kids Pulled From Public Schools Because Pete Cahall Is Gay

It was just last Thursday that I posted about Pete Cahall, the principal at Wilson High School in Washington DC, who came out as gay at the school’s annual LGBT Pride celebration — see post HERE. It kinda proved my pint that it doesn’t matter when you come out, just that you do come out; strength in numbers and all that you know.

But, one person wasn’t happy that Pete Cahall decided to live his life truthfully and that person was rightwingnut Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council, a certified hate group. I mean, he really must have gotten his thong twisted over that story because he called for the most ludicrous response to Principal Cahall’s coming out party.

Perkins is calling for all parents, everywhere, across the nation, to boycott public schools and remove their children from public schools, placing them in “other alternatives” because there’s a gay principal in DC.

Seriously.

Perkins is especially incensed because the students cheered their principal’s coming out and that the school district even “tweeted it out.”

 “Eighty-three percent of the students coming out of the District of Columbia are not proficient in reading skills, but they know how to celebrate gay pride. As we drop further and further in the global ranking of math and science scores, at least our kids will understand sex-ed. Amazing.

“If you have your children in public schools, unless you’re in a district where you know exactly what’s going on in some rural part of the country where values are still embraced, you really need to think about whether or not you want to expose your kids to what’s happening in our public school system. I would encourage you to look for other alternatives.”

I got news for you Tony, I'm as queer as the day is long and I live in rural America; and there are others, just like me, right here in the same town, Tony.

And there are others like me, and Pete Cahall in every school district, in every city, town, township, zip code, rural country road; there are gay teachers and administrators, so why this one principal has gotten you so hot under the collar I don’t know. But why stop now?

I mean, if you want children pulled from public schools because a gay man was cheered for his honesty at one school, then why not completely boycott any business, any institution, any place in the world that has a gay person in it.

Leave your church because the choir director might be gay; or maybe the person in the pew in front of you is queer.

Remove all your money from Wells Fargo, or whatever bank you use, because I bet a teller, or a bank manager at one of the branches is involved in a same-sex relationship.

Stop all upcoming medical procedures because the hospital has a gay doctor or nurse, or intern or orderly.

You see how stupid you sound, Tony? If you want to boycott a school or any business or church or organization because a gay person came out and was celebrated then you’ll find yourself living all alone somewhere, probably behind a fence that says “Gays Keep Out.”

Tony, dear, we’re here, we’re queer, and we’re everywhere.

Boycott that.

Principal Cahall Comes Out

It’s hard out there for a queer. Sure, some of us come out as gay straight — no pun intended — from the womb, while others come out in high school or college; or even later in life. But no matter when you do it, your life feels better because you aren’t hiding any more.

Just ask Pete Cahall, principal of Washington DC’s Wilson High School who chose the school’s annual Pride Day even to finally tell his students that he is gay:

“I want to say publicly for the first time because of your leadership, care and support that I am a proud gay man who just happens to be the principal of Wilson High School.”

And the students greeted his Coming Out with cheers and applause.

“I feel really proud of him, even though obviously he’s an adult. I teared up … if it inspires other people to come out, that’s great.”— Marla Solow, event organizer and junior at the school

Also in attendance at the event were DC Mayor Vincent Gray, and David Catania, the DC Council’s first openly gay member. Gray congratulated Cahall for “going public with who he is” and hoped his example would encourage LGBTQ students to feel comfortable doing the same:

“There is nothing worse than walking around having to hide who you are. I think this is the most important lesson that these students will learn this year.”

And as several students came up to congratulate Cahall for his announcement, he finally breathed that sigh of relief that every LGBTQ person feels when they finally say those words out loud and in public.

“I’ve hid all my life. In this community, with these kids, I’d be a big hypocrite if I didn’t speak my truth.”

Now, of course, with all this good news, comes the bad, er, ridiculous. The Westboro Baptist Church had announced that they would picket Wilson’s Pride Day, though they didn’t do it on the actual day, but planned it for a week later because, well, I guess they don’t have a calendar? Yet when they do show up, late, they will come face-to-face with nearly 1,000 Wilson students who have signed up for a peaceful counter protest.

But that’s neither here nor there, because the WBC will always protest and always look foolish and yet every day, in every city, in every field, men and women are coming out as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender; that’s the good news, that sigh of relief.

The rest of this, the WBC of this, is just stuff and nonsense.

Welcome out, Principal Cahall, welcome out. And please, accept as our gift a copy of The Gay Agenda as well as the Obligatory Coming Out Toaster Oven.
