Bobservations

So we were watching the Oscars the other night and they announce that Mick Jagger is coming out to present an award and Carlos says:

“Mick Jagger?”

“Yes, sweetie, Mick Jagger.”

“Is he related to Mick Jagger the singer?”

“No, sweetie he IS Mick Jagger the singer.”

“Is he English? Because he has a funny accent.”

This is from Carlos who has the funniest accent ever.

And imagine what he might do in 2025 to fix the economy rather than focusing on taking control of the Post Office.

The more things change, the more we get the same stupid from The Felon.

Say what you want about Naomi Campbell but the bitch can rock a runway … even at fifty-four! Just don’t make her mad when she’s holding a cell phone!

Isn’t it funny how the GOP denigrates Volodymyr Zelenskyy for coming into the Oval Office and not wearing a suit, but then say not a word about Leon Skum, the Ketamine Kid, entering the Oval in a t-shirt, jacket and baseball cap?

It's almost like they don’t see their hypocrisy.

He’s shaving his upper cheeks now that he’s finished with the lower ones. Smooth cakes, baby.

I woke up Saturday morning and was doing some internet surfing when I saw a notice of Extreme Fire Danger in South Carolina. What? I’d never seen that in all the years we’ve lived in and was surprised. Cut to four hours later when I said to Carlos:

“Call the fire department.”

There was a fire alongside the road from three houses down and it was headed our way. It was coming down the hill toward our neighbor’s house so we got our hose and helped spray the flames while other neighbors ran with buckets.

Luckily, the fire department showed quickly and put all the fires out—no damage to any structures—and then Carlos and I had a nice chat with the fire chief and thanked him and his team them for their service.

Now, as I write this on Wednesday morning, we are awaiting tornados and heavy rain.

0y.

A couple of weeks ago singer Sheryl Crow, disgusted by Leon Skum’s presidency, sold her Tesla and donated the money to National Public Radio [NPR]

This week Cassandra Peterson, AKA Elvira, actor and media personality, followed suit and sold her Tesla to NPR and then gave the profits to NPR. But first she wrote ‘Elon SuX’ on the side of her car.

For anyone, and I mostly mean the people on the right who only believe what a convicted felon says, here are some facts:

Between 2014 and 2022 Ukraine held over 200 talks with Russia, reaching 20 cease-fire agreements.

Russia promptly violated all those agreements and invaded Ukraine on February 22, 2022.

Anyone, ANYONE, advocating for negotiations are either misled, uninformed or aligned with Russia.

That’s all.

I was visiting blogs the other morning and I found this on Voenix Rising and for some reason my mind went right to Maddie …

Silvester Ruck is a 36-year-old German born model who was discovered by agent David Todd of DT Model Management at a Coffee Bean in Beverly Hills; coffee is nice, but Would You Hit It?

Random Musings

On The Big C front:
First, the Showtime series ended this week with Cathy, played by the amazing Laura Linney, dying of melanoma.

I cried, because she died in her home, like my mother, after seeing her family and knowing they would be all right.

On the big C homefront:

My sister--that's who you're cheering for over there, AnneMarie--had her first three rounds of chemo this week and came through remarkably well. She's feeling good, sounding good, and doing good.

It's still a journey, but she's taken that first step and we'll just see where it takes her, and us.
Jody Arias.
Found guilty of shooting her ex-boyfriend in the head and then stabbing him 25 times, her first interview after the verdict she asked to be put to death because then she'd be 'free'.
In court this week, she begged for mercy and said she could do great things in prison, like:
  • Start a recycling program
  • Teach Spanish
  • Start a Book Club
  • Sell her designer T-shirts emblazoined with the words 'Survivor" on them.
Howsabout this: lock Jody Arias up and never let her be seen or heard from again. Even on the day she dies in prison, let there be no mention of her.
Ever again.
So, guns, gun control.
In a post from earlier this week [More Children Killing Children] I received this comment from ISBL reader, Helen Lashbrook, from ‘across the pond,’ as they say, in the UK. She gave me a little insight into what the UK does in terms of gun control:
“We have a gun in our house (sadly as far as I am concerned). By law it has to be kept in a gun cabinet, accessible ONLY by the gun owner and holder of a gun licence. My husband was inspected by the police before the licence was issued and is checked every few years to ensure that he is still a suitable person to hold the licence.Although we are far from perfect the United Kingdom has not fallen into chaos because we have strict gun control (contrary to what the NRA preaches); quite the opposite. We have very few deaths from gunshot wounds. We lose a lot fewer policemen too.”
How come we can’t be that enlightened here? No one is talking guns away, they are simply demanding responsibility.
I am a bit of a news junkie, but even I was overwhelmed with the coverage of the tornadoes this week in Oklahoma. I kept thinking about people losing their homes, having no places to stay, and then watching every single news channels sending dozens upon dozens of reporters and camera crews into the area, clogging the streets, taking up valuable hotel and motel rooms that might have better been used for those left homeless after the disaster.

I mean, seriously, is the idea of Matt Lauer talking about two-by-fours turning into spears in tornado winds really relevant. And did ABC really need to seen Sam Champion and David Muir and others down there?

Sometimes I want the news; the sensationalism, however, needs to be stopped.
Oh that wacky GOP. Try as they might—and they have been trying and trying [my patience] these past five years—to prove Barack Obama is everything from un-American to a Socialist to a Communist to, well, you get my meaning.

Now, the GOP tries to create scandals out of every issue that comes along and yet the president’s approval ratings are the same, or higher. But, you know whose ratings are going way down? The GOP.

In a newly released CNN poll, 59% of Americans view the GOP unfavorably, while that minority that still approves of them is at a low low 35%.

Maybe it’s the 37th attempt to repeal Obamacare, or the GOP’s failure on jobs, the economy, the environment. Maybe the GOP needs to get voted out of office because they have yet to accomplish one thing. They couldn’t even keep Obama to a one-term presidency, and that was Goal One three years ago.
So, this week at the Billboard Music Awards Little Justine Bieber was given the Milestone Award.

I thought it was because he reached the Milestone of Puberty.
The Milestone of Being Five Feet Tall.
The Milestone of Having Discernible Talent.

Then he took to the stage and admonished his critics for not understanding his ‘art’ and his ‘craft’ and the idea that in five years we’ll be, “Justin who?”
What’s that you say Virginia?
It seems that a clear majority of Virginia voters now support legal same-sex marriage, a sharp reversal from 2006 when they voted to amend the state constitution to define marriage as one man and one woman. Even the people’s attitudes on guns and immigration are different than those of their elected officials, which should mean one thing: Vote ‘em out.

What’s that you say Michigan?
It seems Virginia isn’t the only state seeing a shift in views on marriage equality. A majority of Michiganians, er, Michiganders, er, Meshuganas, now support same-sex marriage and equal rights for LGBT Americans.  Support for same-sex marriage has increased to 56.8%, up over twelve-points from last year.

What’s that you say Tennessee?

It seems that nearly half of all Tennesseans support legal recognition of same-sex couples—either civil unions, at 17%, or full marriage equality at 32%--as shown in a poll conducted for Vanderbilt University.
Meanwhile, 62% of Tennesseans say health insurance and other employee benefits should be extended to the domestic partners or spouses of gays and lesbians.
Say.What?

The march goes on, people.
So, Carlos snores. And snores loud. And I have learned that when the snoring begins, if I slap him in the face the mattress a couple of times, he’ll stop snoring and turn over. Oh, he doesn’t wake up, mind you, but he stops the snores and turns over.

Which can mean only one thing: he is subconsciously trying to ruin my sleep.

Only, this past week, the bitch mattress slapping hasn’t been working, and now I need to punch him in the gut tap him gently and ask him to turn over.

It’s a hard knock life.
So, the Mama Grizzly Bore™--never one to shut her illiterate piehole—gave us all her opinion on climate change in a little blurb on her Facebook page:
 “Global Warming my gluteus maximus.”
Loosely translated as “My ass is as big as the Earth.
Prince Carl of Sweden. isn't he just delicious? I've had his picture up here before, but I found a whole series over at Buzzfeed and they, well, tickled my nether regions.

Upside? He's royally hot.

Downside: he's third in line for the throne so he'll never be King, meaning I'll never be Queen. :::sigh:::

Asshats of the Week: Oklahoma Senators Tom Coburn and Jim Inhofe

While the town of Moore, Oklahoma is still digging itself out of the devastation wrought by the massive tornado that touched down there this past Monday, let’s take a quick minute to look in on their state Senators, Tom Coburn and  Jim Inhofe.

Coburn, apparently, was unaffected by the tornado, so his decision to require offsets to government spending in the area, before he votes in favor of disaster relief is just good sense, no? I mean, people have lost everything, homes, cars, jobs, family members, and Coburn needs time to think before he acts to send money to help his home state rebuild.

Fifty-one people dead—20 of them children-and Coburn and Inhofe need a minute. When did this country become one that only helps its citizens when the “proper budget cuts” have been made?

In fact, Coburn and Inhofe—both Republicans, of course—pride themselves on being ‘fiscal conservatives’ and have repeatedly voted against funding disaster aid for other parts of the country, most recently the areas affected by Hurricane Sandy. Coburn and Inhofe also oppose increased funding for the Federal Emergency Management Agency [FEMA], the agency that administers federal disaster relief. Coburn complained that the Sandy Relief bill contained "wasteful spending," and identified a series of items he objected to, including "$12.9 billion for future disaster mitigation activities and studies."

You know, to plan in case this happens again and maybe to prevent the disaster from being so devastating and widespread; you know, to help.

This past Monday evening, with bodies still being pulled from destroyed homes and schools in Moore, Coburn spokesman John Hart confirmed that the senator will seek to ensure that any additional funding for tornado disaster relief in Oklahoma be offset by cuts to federal spending elsewhere in the budget: "That's always been his position [to offset disaster aid]."

Coburn Tweeted, on Monday: "My thoughts and prayers are with those in Oklahoma affected by the tragic tornado outbreak."

Thoughts and prayers, but no disaster relief.

Quite a different tune, though, from past years. In January of 2007, Senator Coburn urged federal officials to speed relief to parts of Oklahoma after a severe ice storm, and in 2008, Senator Inhofe applauded the emergency relief efforts from the Department of Housing and Urban Development that was given to 24 Oklahoma counties in light of the severe weather. He said, at that time, "I am pleased that the people whose lives have been affected by disastrous weather are getting much-needed federal assistance."

Now he sings another tune while his constituents suffer.

It's All Our Fault! 10 Disasters "The Gays" Supposedly Caused

Well, while most of the East coast is still digging out from the Frankenstorm, I--and by 'I', I mean the good folks at The Advocate--decided to take a look back through time at the disasters which have been blamed on The Gays.
Because, you know, we have the power to send hurricanes flying through the skies, but passing marriage equality, or any kind of LGBT equality, is just out of our grasp.
So, without further ado, the Top Ten disasters that nutjobs blame on The Gays so they can get their names in the papers:

1. Hurricane Sally
So-called "chaplain," John McTernan, the founder of Defend and Proclaim the Faith ministries--shouldn't it be "proclaim" then "defend"--said of Hurricane Sandy, which caused billions in damages, and left many people dead: "God is systematically destroying America. Just look at what has happened this year."
Not to be outdone, America's Church of Hate and Stupidity, the Westboro Baptist Church, also jumped on the Praise Sally bandwagon. Shirley Phelps-Roper, the batshit crazy daughter of the WBC founder and leader Fred Phelps, Tweeted: "We bow in humble thanks 2 God 4 Sandy! Thank God for a plain message delivered to a puddle of states that proudly flip Him off! #FagMarriage"
2 Floods, Fires and Tornadoes Everywhere, 2012
Pam Olsen, the founder of the Florida Prayer Network and a member of Texas Governor Rick Perry's flailed election campaign, believes marriage equality and ordination of gay priests could lead to floods, fires, and tornadoes: "You know what, God is not one that is going to wink at sin. God is shaking. If anybody looks at the news and has just seen what's been happening recently with the floods, the fires, the tornadoes, God is shaking. Yeah I think you have God shaking, sure you have the enemy shaking, you have both and I don't want to say oh that's the judgment of God or that's the enemy. But the reality is God is judging us, and I think it's going to get worse."
3 Hurricane Katrina, August 2005
Shortly following the massive destruction of hurricanes Katrina and Rita on the Gulf Coast, Repent America director Michael Marcavage issued a statement blaming the massive disaster on New Orleans's annual gay party, Southern Decadence: "Although the loss of lives is deeply saddening, this act of God destroyed a wicked city."
A year later, Megachurch Pastor John Haggee of San Antonio, Texas, said “God caused Hurricane Katrina to wipe out New Orleans because it had a gay pride parade the week before and was filled with sexual sin.”
4 Eastern U.S. Earthquake, 2011
A tremor up the east coast undoubtedly rocked the typically solid region, but that didn't stop anti-LGBT notables from shaking things up. Archconservative Orthodox rabbi Yehuda Levin, after blaming Haiti's destructive 2010 earthquake on the island nation's high HIV/AIDS rates, blamed the earthquake that originated in Virginia last year on The Gays.
Not to be outdone in the dumbfuckery, Pat Robertson added that he believed that individuals "who act kind of gay" were behind the earthquake.
5 September 11, 2001
Following the life-changing terrorist attack, Jerry Falwell said, "I really believe that the pagans and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularized America. I point the finger in their face and say, 'you helped this happen.'"
6 Tsunami, 2011
Cindy Jacobs, of something called General International, said The Gays caused the 9.0 magnitude earthquake, which prompted a destructive tsunami in eastern Japan, causing 15,870 deaths and $235 billion in damage: "Everything that I said has happened. We have seen these disasters happen. We need to repent for turning away from God and saying that we can make any laws that we want, it doesn't matter... that God's laws don't count."
7 Mass Animal Deaths, 2011
Cindy Jacobs also comes in at #7, when she explained that the thousands of birds falling dead from the sky, or tons of dead fish were just floating around belly up, were the result of the repeal of DADT.
8 Hurricane Bonnie, 1988
Pat Robertson tried to preemptively blame gay revelers at Disney World's Gay Days Weekend for being the cause of the pending storm. However, when the storm approached the U.S. mainland, it completely missed Florida but hit the rest of the east coast, and one of those hardest-hit areas was Hampton Roads, Va., where Robertson's 700 Club is based.
9 Northridge Earthquake, 1994
King of Batshittery, Pat Robertson also said the 6.7 magnitude earthquake in Los Angeles County's San Fernando Valley, which caused about $25 billion in damage and 72 deaths, was attributed to God's displeasure with gays and lesbians, pro-choice activists, and "perversity."
10 Sodom and Gomorrah
Ah yes, where it all began. The Biblical tale of debauchery and mayhem in these two cities ends badly thanks to God's anger over all of that rape — in the form of, well, sodomy.
There you have it; proof, from every asshat and nutjob and wingnut that The Gays can send hurricanes, can kill birds in flight and fish in the seas, can cause the earth to rumble and tsunamis to roar.
And yet we don't have the power to create a little marriage equality?
Silly "Christians."
