Bobservations

I don’t really have a Carlos story, though he is still planning a vacation for us at the end of January, in time for my birthday and to take the onus off Fuckuary, my least favorite month.

I have been trying to get details from him and he’s very good at secret keeping. I don’t know if we’re flying, boating, trainspotting, hiking or driving, going South or North or East or West, or what clothes to pack and for what occasions.

I’m starting to wonder if he’s gonna hire a driver and drop me off somewhere, in the middle of nowhere, and make me fight my way home.

Pray I make it …

This Tuxedo Says is from June 2020:

It’s hard remembering which day of the week it is, or even, sometimes, which month. Tuxedo feels your pain …

The Felon is claiming that all his plans, including his tax cuts for the richest Americans will be paid for by the tariffs.

Yes, he’s that stupid if he thinks we believe this, and MAGAts are even stupider because they are buying it.

Earlier this week I once again declared my lust for Stanley Tucci and bald men, but I need to make it clear: it’s not all bald men, especially ones who look like a lump of unmolded clay or a giant eraser head:

I didn’t have the time to do a fashion roundup for the Golden Globes so I will just give you my Best Look and my Worst Look:

My BFF Nikki Kidman rocking a 60’s hairdo and a sexy backless number wins hands down while Kerry Washington looks like she stole a cheap pink sheet from the No-Tell  Motel on Hollywood Blvd. and is doing the Walk of Shame is my Worst Dressed.

PS Kerry’s hair; oh, honey, no … no.

While Vice President Kamala Harris was swearing in the recently elected senators for their new terms, she greeted new Senator Ruben Gallego, his wife who was carrying their young daughter, and his son. Harris asked Gallego’s about how their day was going and the boy replied:

“I’m sorry you didn’t win.”

Harris hugged him and said:

“Oh, you know what, sweetheart? But you know what? Do you worry about it because there’s still so much work to do. We’re not defeated. You know what that word defeated means?”

Just think, we could have more of that instead of a race baiting traitor.

Nancy Mace’s hopes of banning transgender women from sharing a bathroom with her on Capitol Hill appear dashed for now after her proposed controversial bathroom ban was not included in the GOP’s House rules package unveiled this week—a surprise omission less than two months after Speaker Mike Johnson reportedly assured Mace it would be included.

Be gone, Nancy Mace, before someone drops a house on you.

Aaron Pierre is an English actor who trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and has appeared in the period drama miniseries The Underground RailroadOld and Mufasa but who cares about that: Would You Hit It?

Well, They Look ALMOST Identical

Of note … on the left is Chris Hemsworth, who stands 6’3” and weighs in 215 pounds, while on the right we have Inmate # P01135809 who also stands 6’3” and also weighs in at 215 pounds.

I think the Inmate needs to be charged with falsifying a legal document … cuz this is another Big Lie!

Random Musings

Well, well, well, the people of the land Down Under, in a non-binding postal survey on marriage equality, voted YES in a landslide vote.

Members of Parliament are expected to quickly introduce a marriage bill that could see legalization of same-sex marriage as soon as Christmas, but as always … haters gonna try …
Last week Carlos had an appointment with an eye doctor to have some glasses made that he can use to read music; his regular glasses don’t help, they are used for reading and there is a difference in head tilt and distance from the page for music.

Anyway … the doctor came in all blustery and busy-like. He had a mop of curly hair and hideous shoes; that was all I noticed. He spoke to us for a moment and then he left the room and Carlos said:
“He’s kinda cute.”
And I replied:
“Good thing we’re getting your eyes checked. Just in the nick of time.”
Yeah. Not cute.
Keeping up the Not Cute theme …

People magazine has named Blake Shelton its 2017 Sexiest Man Alive. Really, People? Last year it was The Rock, this year it’s Blake Shelton—coincidentally his initials are BS—so who will it be next year … Carlos’ eye doctor?

Is it too much to ask to get an actual sexy man up in here?
This could almost … ALMOST … get me to shop at Walmart:

In 2015, Henry Walker decided to buy a watermelon at his local Walmart store, and once inside, Henry found the watermelon of his dreams and then the nightmare began.

He stepped forward, plucked the watermelon from the pile, unaware that his foot was stuck in the wooden pallet beneath the watermelons. He then turned, still unaware of the stuck foot, fell, and shattered his hip.

Naturally, because Henry Walker is not at fault for stepping onto, and into, a pallet of watermelons, he sued Walmart for negligence. His lawyers argued that Walmart had a responsibility to its customers to provide a safe environment and should have known the wooden pallet could cause injury—even though fifty-nine-year-old Henry Walker didn’t know that—and last week, a jury agreed with Henry and awarded him $7.5 million in damages.

When last seen, Henry was headed to McDonald’s for a hot cup of coffee in a cup with a loose lid …
TLC has officially and finally severed ties with former “Counting On” star, and Duggared Husband, Derick Dillard after he repeatedly made transphobic comments about one of the network’s other stars, Jazz Jennings:
“We want to let our viewers know that Derick Dillard has not participated in ‘Counting On’ for months and the network has no plans to feature him in the future. We want to reiterate that Derick’s personal statements do not reflect the views of the network. TLC is proud to share the story of Jazz Jennings and her family and will continue to do so.”
The decision came after Dillard spoke again about Jennings, arguing that he doesn’t believe anyone can change their gender identity and refusing to use feminine pronouns when discussing Jennings:
“I pity Jazz, 4 those who take advantage of him in order 2 promote their agenda, including the parents who allow these kinds of decisions 2 be made by a child. It’s sad that ppl would use a juvenile this way. Again, nothing against him, just unfortunate what’s on tv these days.”
I pity illiterate Fuckwads whose only claim to fame is the fact that they sperminated a Duggar daughter and continue to propagate that Children For Cash mentality of that family.

Go back to being a barista, Derrick and STFU.
In another win for Free Speech, advertisers are fleeing rightwingnut, and _____’s Head Ass Kisser, Sean Hannity’s Fox News[?] show after his skeptical coverage of the child sex accusations against Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore.

The exodus comes after Hannity tried to downplay the multiple accusations against Moore and actually suggested that sometimes children can give consent to have sex with an adult.

Yeah. Children. Sex. Adults.

So, at least five companies—Realtor.com, biotech company 23 And Me, Eloquii, Nature's Bounty and Keurig—announced they were done running ads on Hannity’s program. Keurig’s announcement on Twitter sparked a #BoycottKeurig campaign and spurred tons of rightwingnuts to smash their coffee makers to the ground and then posting the pictures on social media.

Seriously, Deplorables are dumb, because now Hannity has changed his tune and demanded Moore answer the allegations or drop out of the race.

Huh. Sean Hannity changed his mind because he agrees, or because he was costing Fox News money and the network can’t afford any more lost revenue after all its payouts over its own sex abuse scandals.

What is it with Republicans and conservative news outlets and sex scandals?
Speaking of Deplorables … one year after electing that Fat Bastard, the vast majority of Deplorables have no regrets. In fact, 82 percent of those who say they supported ____ last year would vote for him again if they had to do it over.

Seriously? Did they cast their votes and then just stop paying attention?

The only good news is the 18% who wouldn’t vote for him again; at least some of them got a little wiser.
Good news? Here’s some … many people on Puerto Rico may not have electricity or access to drinking water or be able to work in the nearly two months since Hurricane Maria struck, but some on the island are still receiving a paycheck because their employer knows what’s right.

Yup; even though Hurricane Maria destroyed much of the island’s infrastructure, and forced TJX—the parent company of  TJ Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods—to close its doors temporarily, the company has been paying their employees nonetheless:
“Based on the devastating situation in Puerto Rico, we can confirm that we have continued to pay our TJ Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods Associates on the island. We believe it is the right thing for us to do under these circumstances.”—TJX vice president of communications Doreen Thompson
TJX’s conduct was first flagged by Iván Meléndez when he posted a grateful message on Facebook thanking Marshall’s for paying his son, even though the store that employed him was closed, and remains closed, because of the storm.

Perhaps we should all head out to Home Goods and buy a Keurig, you know, to kill two birds with one stone.
A week or so ago, I visited Mistress Maddie’s place on the interwebz—
A Day with the Mistress Borghese—and spotted From The Candy Shop, featuring Davide Zongoli, up there, an acrobat, dancer, model, and eye candy.

I’d seen Zongloi before and remember seeing some shots of him that reminded me of my own post, #TuxedoInABox from earlier this week:

#ZongoliInABox

Nice.
Colin Kaepernick was last on the cover of GQ four years as a quarterback on the rise.

But, after a simple act—kneeling during the national anthem—changed everything, and cost him his job, Kaepernick is back as GQ’s Citizen of the Year for his activism and resistance.

And making a much sexier cover model than that other guy … and he rankles The Deplorables.

Just sayin’...

So George Zimmerman was arrested. AGAIN.

He ALLEGEDLY pointed a shotgun at his girlfriend, and has been charged with one count of felony aggravated assault, and two misdemeanors including domestic violence battery and criminal mischief for the ALLEGED domestic dispute.

Here’s my take:
  1. George Zimmerman thinks he has a right to use his guns to solve any issue that displeases him, whether it’s a girlfriend pissing him off or a young boy walking though his neighborhood.
  2. George Zimmerman is the poster child for why we need stricter gun laws in this country.
  3. George Zimmerman, like OJ Simpson, who also got away with murder, will one day find himself behind bars for another crime, just like OJ. It’s the universe righting itself.
Until then, let’s just hope he doesn’t murder anyone else.
Ted Cruz; “Senator” and comedian, er, liar.

At The Atlantic's Washington Ideas Forum recently, Fox News host Chris Wallace pointed out to Cruz that many of his colleagues thought he’d hurt the party by forcing the government shutdown instead of letting Obamacare fail on its own, and Cruz responded like this:
"That ignores who I think was responsible for the shutdown. I didn't want a shutdown. Throughout the whole thing, I said we shouldn't have a shutdown."
The audience howled, knowing a liar and charlatan when they see one.

And the Tea Party thinks he’s their newest darling? I cannot wait for him to run for President because that would really be funny.
Carlos and I went to see 12 Years a Slave over the weekend and I must say I loved it. Of course, I am a huge fan of Chiwetel Ejiofor, who played the slave Platte, AKA Solomon Northrup. It was hard to watch at times; cringe-worthy and WTF-inducing, but it’s the kind of story that needs to be told and remembered so it cannot happen again.

Based on a true story, Ejiofor plays Solomon Northup, a free man living in upstate New York, who was kidnapped in Washington, DC and sold into slavery, and forcibly taken to Louisiana, where he worked for assorted slave masters played by Benedict Cumberbatch, Michael Fassbender and Bryan Batt. The cruelest of all was Fassbender’s character who was insane and brutal and vicious, to say the least.

Other actors in the film, include Lupita Nyong’o as Patsey, in a heartbreaking performance, along with Alfre Woodard, a slave turned slave-owner, and Sarah Paulsen as Fassbender’s sadistic wife.

But it’s all Chiwetel Ejiofor and, these aren’t spoilers, in two scenes he proves whey I think he should win the Oscar.

One, at the funeral of a fellow slave who died in the field, the camera pulls in close on Solomon as the other slaves sing a Negro spiritual; with just his house and very subtle facial expressions, you see him go through all kinds of emotions about his situation, the plight of the slave, and his final realization that he may never get home.

Two, in one of the last scenes all he has to say is “I apologize for my appearance’ and the tears flowed.

It’s a great film, subtle and yet in your face; all of the performances are just spot on. It’s not the kind of film that you can see again and again, but it’s the kind of film that stays with you for a very long time afterwards.
Orlando Cruz, the openly gay Puerto Rican boxer married his boyfriend José Manuel Colón in New York's Central Park over the weekend.

New York City Councilmember Melissa Mark-Viverito, who is among the frontrunners to succeed Christine Quinn as New York City Council Speaker officiated the ceremony, and Orlando noted the ceremony on his Facebook page:
“Giving thanks to my heavenly father for one more day of life and with [my] husband José Manuel in it.”
Congratulations to the happy couple.
The Oxford English Dictionaries announced that ‘selfie’ is their international Word of the Year 2013.
selfie noun, informal (also selfy; plural selfies)
a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website
Oxford Dictionaries editors reveals that the frequency of the word selfie in the English language has increased by 17,000% since this time last year, though the word can actually be traced back to 2002 when it was used in an Australian online forum.

Other words on the short list included bedroom tax, binge-watch, bitcoin, olinguito, schmeat, showrooming, and twerk.

Yikes. I have taken but one ‘selfie’ in my life and it was a few years back when I had the shingles because my father wanted to see it. That picture was taken and sent and then deleted.
Pity poor Nom [National organization for Marriage].

After the Human Rights Campaign [HRC] filed a complaint with the IRS to compel NOM to publicly release its financial documents related to its political advocacy spending in 2012 comes the news that the hate group is some $2.7 million in debt.

NOM's sole 2012 ballot victory occurred in May, when North Carolina voters approved a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.

Ouch. I’m guessing Bryan Brown is really crying now.
This is a football game? Men in Speedos?

Perhaps I should have attended more game when I lived in Miami, those these two brutes in teeny bikinis were told to put their clothes back on by stadium security.

Damn them!
People magazine has named Adam Levine The Sexiest Man ALIVE!!

Hardly. Cute, sure; sexy, no. I could list hundreds more qualified for the title …
Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tom Hiddleston, Colin Farrell, Ralph Fiennes’ Morris Chestnut, Chris Pine,  Henry Cavill, Joseph Gordon-LevittTyson Beckford, Chris Hemsworth, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Diego Klattenhorf, Billy Brown, Sean Maguire, Zachary Quinto, Jake Gyllenhaal, Blair Underwood, Hugh Dancy, Jon Hamm, Jonathan Bailey, Idris Elba, Kellan Lutz, Channing Tatum, Kevin Ryan, Daniel Craig, Michael Fassbender, Daniel Day-Lewis, Matt Damon, Denzel Washington, Ryan Gosling, Anderson Cooper, Damian Lewis, Matt Bomer, Charlie Carrick, Oscar Isaac, Omar Borkan Al Gala, Baz Luhrman, Bradley Cooper, Jason Sudeikis, Tom Bateman, Blake Ritson, Francois Arnaud, Hill Harper, Sam Palladio, Mike Colter, Jonny Lee Miller, Hugh Jackman, David GiuntoliMax and Charles Carver …

Okay, I’ll stop.

Random Musings

Well, since New Year's Day is the big football day, and since Carlos and I are such fans, we plopped ourselves in front of the TV and watched every single......
Yeah, we went to see Les Miserables, starring Hugh Jackman and his Huge Ackman.
I'm still trying to digest it.
Don't get me wrong, i loved it; Anne Hathaway's I Dreamed A Dream was heart-wrenching. But it's not your father's musical. No big show-stopping numbers; the singing was so intimate and yet the story was so big, you were really drawn into the film. Sometimes with musicals, the singing tends to stop the show, but not in this case. It really moved the story along,
Plus, well, as shallow as I am, Eddie Redmayne--on the right, up there--as Marius was delicious to watch. Of course, then we had to watch My Week With Marilyn because Eddie was in that, too, although the revelation was Michele Williams, so perfect as Marilyn.
So, perhaps John Boehner, who last cried when he became Speaker of the House, might shed a few more tears. It seems even his own party is fed up with Boehner and many want him removed as Speaker.
Cue the waterworks.
Throw a little, well, not so little, Chris Christie ire into the mix--he's annoyed that Boehner and the GOP have failed to act on allocating funds for Hurricane Sandy Relief-- and Boehner really might have a reason to cry this time.
New Years Eve, because I loves me some Broadway, we watched Live From Lincoln Center on PBS. The show, One Singular Sensation, was a tribute to Marvin Hamlisch, and was planned well before his sudden passing last year, but went on anyway as a tribute to his music.
I appreciate Hamlisch's talent, but I watched because it featured Audra McDonald, one of the Great Voices I have ever heard. I'd listen to her sing the Phone Book, seriously.
Plus, well, as shallow as I am, it also featured delicious Latino-American, and openly bisexual, hunk, Raul Ezparza.
Out there to Michigan way,  Governor Rick Snyder, a Republican, of course, signed a bill that creates new regulations for abortion clinics and doctors. This bill requires doctors to screen patients to make sure they haven't been "coerced' into having an abortion, because, you know, women are like that; they can be easily manipulated and make the choice for abortion as easily as they decide what shoes to wear.
"To be screened for coercion is a reasonable thing," Snyder said. "It is really a question of women's health and safety."
Actually, it's a chance to make a woman feel like she doesn't have a choice in her own decisions regarding her body.
Hilary Clinton, who, if you believe FoxNews and the Wingnut Faction of the GOP, faked a stomach virus and a fainting spell, and a blood cot in her head just to avoid testifying about Benghazi, was released from the hospital and headed home.
Get well, Madame Secretary. You'll need to be in fighting form when you win the White House in 2016.

Random Musings

Okay, so the Mittsy the Bully story isn't dead yet, and, well, I for one have more to say.
While I am disgusted by his actions as a teen, I realize that people change, and the Mittsy who tormented the gay, and allegedly gay, students at his high school is not the same Mittsy today. But, the part of the story that disgusts me most, is that when he talks of the incident[s], he first says he doesn't recall them--which, you know damn well his victims have never forgotten--but he laughs about it, albeit nervously.
See, I have my own story of bullying, and, no, not being bullied, but being the bully. And the difference between Mittsy and me is that I feel shame, right now, today, as I write this, even though it happened when I was ten years old. That's decades of shame for what I did.
I was in the 5th grade. I didn't know from gay, though I did have a wee crush on my math teacher, Mr. Farris. But, my best friend Paul and I didn't like this one kid, because he had a funny sounding last name; well, his last name was also the name of a disease. So, we tormented him, at school, and on the way home. So, much so that he would try to find other ways of going home, and we would find him again, and start over. We verbally bullied him; it was never physical, though that doesn't really matter, you know?
Anyway, one day at school, the day after we’d sent him running home in tears, the principal wanted to see Paul and me. Our victim had told on us, and we were taken to the principal's office and reprimanded severely. Parents were notified, and I truly felt ashamed for what I’d done. There was school punishment, home punishment, and a public apology to our victim.
And, unlike Mittsy, I never did it again.
And, unlike Mittsy, I feel the sting of shame to this day.
That’s my issue with Mittsy and bullying. Not so much that he did it, because, most of us, as children and young adults, have probably done our share of name-calling and bullying, but because Mittsy seems to have no remorse.
When you giggle and offer a non-apology, you've learned nothing.

The male stripper movie, Magic Mike is coming out soon, I guess, and this is the new cover of Entertainment Weekly.
Channing. Joe. Matt Bomer. So cannot wait to see this.
But, um, Matthew McConaughey? The mere sight of him makes me wanna scrub myself clean.

So, we all remember how the Colorado House killed the Civil Union bill?
Well, Don Coram is one of the Republicans responsible for letting the bill die before a vote. And Don Coram has a son, Dee Coram, who is a gay man; a gay man who says he begged his father not to let the bill die. Which it did, by one vote.
Dee Coram: "Yesterday was the first and only time I ever called him and said, "Can you do this?....He said, 'I love you, but absolutely not.'"
The elder Coram said he was representing the interests of his rural district by killing the bill because, he believes, civil unions legislation was akin to gay marriage, which state voters banned in 2006.
I'm not seeing Father of the Year in Don Coram's future.

So, I saw this preview for a new show about a gay male couple wanting to have a child via a surrogate mother. It seems irreverent and funny, and really very witty. It's from Ryan Murphy, creator of both Glee and American Horror Story.
It looks fun, but, I wonder, after the baby comes, is it just gonna be the standard sitcom about a couple with a new baby where hilarity ensues?

So, Starbucks came out for Marriage Equality and NOM threatened a boycott.
Starbucks' sales and stock prices soared.
Tough break NOM. But, maybe there's a reason for that.
See, antigay preacher Bob Enyart proclaimed his dislike for Starbucks's Marriage Equality support by buying coffee at the chain and then dumping it down the sewer. And he videotaped himself doing it.
Um, Pastor Dumbass? The purpose of a boycott is not to go into the store and buy something from them. I don't think Starbucks cares if you dump your Venti-double-half-caf-half-decaf-low-foam-caramel-Latte-with-whipped-cream in the sewer after you PAY FOR IT.

So, season finales.
Desperate Housewives.
I hung with this show, even in the lean years, the bad years, and the awful years. So I watched the series finale.
Yawn. Except for the death of sarcastic Karen McCluskey, it wasn't much. But, oy, the writing.
See, Gabby’s husband, Carlos, killed Gabby's child molesting stepfather at the end of last year, but the wives banded together to protect him because he's a twice-convicted felon.
This year, Bree went on trial for the murder, and when it looked like she would be convicted, and you knew that wouldn't happen, Carlos was gonna step up and admit to killing Alejandro with a Candlestick in the Library.
But, Gabby begged him not to, citing the Three Strikes law. As a convicted felon, Carlos would go directly to Jail, and would not pass Go and....
Whoa, two board game references? But I digress.
So, how did Gabby keep her felon husband from testifying? She put a knife in his jacket and when the felon walked through the metal detector, it was discovered.
Um, anyone with me? Felon? Weapon? Courthouse? Three strikes?
The writers weren't thinking on that one. Oy.
Glee. Not really the season finale, that comes next week, but this was the National Championships for Show Choir episode.
It was cute. The choir finally won. Predictable. But the moments between Coach Bieste and Puck were, I thought, very sweet. And even their song together, "Mean" by wide-eyed Taylor Swift, was nice.
And then they added Lohan to the mix.
Yes, cracktress Lindsay Lohan played a sanitized version of herself, and made a less than memorable impression with her three-line art.
But, what I found funny was the scene where the awards were handed out on the stage. Other guest judges, Perez Hilton, playing an emaciated Perez Hilton, and an actor playing an Ohio congressman were onstage, but Lohan was not to be scene.
Was this one of those times when she ALLEGEDLY disappeared into the bathroom?
