Last Monday, July 11, marked the day that sixteen years ago I stepped off a plane in Ft. Lauderdale and met Carlos.

It’s not a day we celebrate, really — I just happen to have a good memory with dates — but we clinked beer glasses over it … and then ate pizza.

In case you didn’t realize that GOP stands for Gay Oppression Party, the Republican Party’s official platform this year will describe marriage as a “union between one man and one woman.” 

Sorry, asshats, you’re not undoing my marriage.

Last weekend Carlos and I watched The 100 Foot Journey because … Helen Mirren, but we both became enamored of a couple of Hot Men in the film. I liked one in particular and Carlos was enchanted by the other — I won’t tell you who picked which Hot Guy, you can guess.

Who is Carlos’ pick, and who is mine? And, of course, who is yours?

Speaking of the Gay Oppression Party, just days ahead of the Republican Convention in Cleveland, the Cleveland City Council unanimously approved legislation to allow transgender people to choose whichever restroom, shower or locker room aligns with their gender identity, without fear of discrimination.

Snap.

Last week, in reaction to a South Carolina Secessionist Party raising the Confederate flag at a public event at the State House, the Black Lives Matter movement staged a counter protest that blocked the I-126 corridor.

In response, Capt. Jimmy Morris, a 16-year Columbia Fire Department captain posted this to Facebook:

“Idiots shutting down I-126. Better not be there when I get off work or there is gonna be some run over dumb asses.”

And then he added this thoughtful post:

“Public Service Announcement: If you attempt to shut down an interstate, highway, etc on my way home, you best hope I’m not one of the first vehicles in line because your ass WILL get run over! Period! That is all....”

The next day Capt. Jimmy Morris was fired from his $53,722-a-year job.

Good on Columbia.

More on the GOP Clusterf**k, er, Convention?

Well, it seems that some anti-Trump delegates — I call them people whose brains fire on all cylinders — are preparing a rules change proposal that would allow the convention delegates to choose their own vice presidential nominee instead of voting for Donald Trump’s choice.

Infighting is fun.

Mike Pucillo, former Ohio State 2008 NCAA Division I Wrestling champion, has come out as gay, becoming the first openly gay Division I national champion wrestler:

“I’ve always known, I guess. I wish I was able to be myself seven years ago while still competing in college, but it isn’t until now that I am comfortable with myself to tell my story. I want people to know that you aren’t alone. If I can just help one person get through, then I will be happy.”

Remember when North Carolina passed their anti-LGBT HB2 and even Donald Rump spoke out against it? And remember in the days after the Orlando shooting when he made a Vote For Me Beg by saying:

“I am better for the gay community.”

Turns out he’s had a change of heart — and is a liar — and now says the law allowing discrimination against the LGBT community is just fine.

Gay.Oppression.Party.

So, the University of North Texas began selling coffee mugs with their logo imprinted on them. Good idea except … I don’t see UNT, I see...

... CUNT.

I know, right?

I loathe The Bachelor, a show about how many men can bang one girl, or how many girls can get banged by one guy. I find the whole notion kinda STD-gross.

And so I wasn’t keen on the idea of LOGO doing their own spin on the show called Finding Prince Charming that will feature a gay male ‘bachelor’ and 13 suitors vying for the, um, heart of ALLEGED first Prince Charming is designer Robert Sepúlveda.

Thirteen men in tight Speedos making out with that hot guy … wait, what? When is this on?

This week Jennifer Lopez and Lin-Manuel Miranda performed their new song, a tribute to the victims of the Orlando shooting, called “Love Makes The World Go Round.”

JLo then Tweeted a photo of herself and Lin-Manuel Miranda to promote the tune but added an unfortunate hash-tag: “All lives Matter” and Twitter exploded … until she deleted the Tweet.

Mike Pucillo Comes Out

Mike Pucillo, a 3-time All-American and 2008 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Champion Wrestler, has come out as gay in an article by Jason Bryant at The Open Mat.

Pucillo says he’s struggled with his sexuality for years and spent his high school years hoping he wasn't gay:

“You’ve been told that [being gay] is a bad thing your entire life. You hear it from your teachers, you hear it from your friends, you hear it from your coaches, you hear it from your parents.”

But finally, about a year ago, Mike had the courage to come out to his family and his friends and now he hopes his example will help someone ease struggling with coming out:

“I want people to know that you aren't alone. If I can just help one person get through, then I will be happy. If I can do that for one person, it's worth it for everybody out there to know my story… I know there's going to be people that don’t like it. To those people, I would say, ‘I've spent 26 years being uncomfortable. It's not my problem anymore.’ 'The only reason why I feel it's important to tell my story is I know there are a lot of other people out there that are like me who are in high school or about to go into college, whether it's wrestling or football or baseball or basketball or not in any sport, who are struggling with it. The more stories they hear about it, the easier it is for them.”

Pucillo spent a year as an assistant coach with the Buckeyes before quitting in 2011, saying he was afraid to recruit a kid to the sport because of what some might think of a gay coach recruiting a young man to the sport.

“Are their parents going to want their son to be at a school where one of the coaches is gay?”

Here’s hoping that by coming out, and inspiring others to do so, Mike Pucillo will open doors for gay athletes and gay coaches to come out.

And so, in that spirit, as we like to do here at HOMO HQ, we are sending Mike a copy of The Gay Agenda — and with so many people talking about it, let’s once again make it clear that The Gay Agenda is one page, one word, long: equality — and we’ll also send Mike the Obligatory Coming Out Toaster Oven.
