Bobservations

Years ago shortly after moving into Casa Bob y Carlos, we went to a plant sale at the State Farmer’s Market site. We saw many plants we liked, though we weren’t looking for anything in particular, and Carlos spied the Popcorn Bush AKA Popcorn Viburnum. It was described as having flowers that looked like popcorn balls and Carlos wanted it.

It stood about a foot-and-a-half tall and Carlos told me the guy wanted $17 for it so he got one and headed to the checkout. Carlos misunderstand the price and it was actually $70 and he was too embarrassed to say ‘No,’ so we drove home with it.

Carlos planted it near the shed and didn’t like it there so he dug it up and replanted it along the fence so we could see it from the kitchen; he didn’t like it there either and was going to move it when I told him this was the last move so he’d better pick a good spot.

That’s the Popcorn bush today in its final spot in the yard just off the deck. I’d say we got our seventy bucks worth!

This Tale of Tuxedo is from March 2009:

I was on yard patrol today, raking leaves, bagging leaves, hauling bags across lawn to be put in the car and taken away. Tuxedo likes to sit in the window and watch. But then he gave me that Pouty Cat face when I came in because he isn't allowed to go outside. Then he decided to punish me for leaving him in the house while I was outside having "fun."

Note to self: Don't piss off the cat!

We had a great time at Columbia’s No Kings protest with more people in attendance than the last one—over 1500—and more Republicans out protesting too.

Keep it up, The Resistance is real!

After his second drunk driving crash, this time a rollover accident in which he flipped his car on a suburban street Tiger Woods has said the reason he has never used a private driver over the years is due to concerns over his privacy, never mind the people he might kill.

A source says Tiger “doesn’t want anyone to watch over him or know what he is doing” which may explain all the pills ALLEGEDLY found in the car and his new statement about going to rehab.

Well, rehab is to keep him out of jail, they say.

Dear Pam Bondi: Do you want a great new thing to investigate besides Epstein? I recommend Pete Hegseth’s insider trading. You’re welcome.

By now you’ve all heard that cosplay actor Kristi DogKiller Noem’s husband also like to play dress up … as a woman.

Now a rumor is circulating that the person who informed on Bryon Noem was an immigrant sex worker, possibly in the country illegally, who wanted to go public about Noem’s husband using her services online.

Noem has asked for privacy during this difficult time so I will give her as much privacy as she planned on giving trans Americans when she wanted them followed into bathrooms and arrested.

Payback is a bitch, eh?

That's So White

On March 16, a few months after Lt. Caron Nazario was being stopped at gun point, pepper sprayed, drag from his car and pushed to the ground because two police officers couldn’t see his new car tags in his rea window, Kansas Highway Patrol Officer Austin Shepley was patrolling the streets of Topeka when he spotted a vehicle driving the wrong way down the street. He pursued the car, with speeds reaching upwards of ninety miles per hour, and Shepley because concerned about innocent people being injured or hurt. So he used a TVI—a Tactical Vehicle Intervention—to stop the car. The driver nearly hit the center barrier wall before coming to a complete stop.

Shepley exited his patrol car, drew his pistol and gave the driver commands to shut the SUV off; the driver did not respond. Two Topeka Police officers then arrived on scene to assist, and one noted that he could smell the odor of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle , and that the driver “looked back at me with a confused, frightened, blank stare. He was not registering my commands or responding to them.”

The driver allegedly tried to pull away from officers as they attempted to remove him from the vehicle and they noted that “his eyes were watery, droopy, and he had bloodshot eyes.” Officer Shepley says he could not understand the man as he was “mumbling words with slurred speech.” Shepley read the man his Miranda rights and the man said “No.” when asked if he wanted to speak with the officer at that time, though he did say that this whole thing was:

“All for going the wrong way.”

And then he, refusing a breathalyzer test because he didn’t “feel the need to do so,” called the “donut boy”. His mood changed, however, a judge signed a search warrant for a blood sample—which showed his BAC at ,17, three-times the legal limit—and the man became “slightly aggressive in his tone” and “looked [Shepley] up and down stating he played state sports competitively in high school” and he could “take me”.

This man, driving drunk driving down the wrong side of the street at over ninety miles per hour was arrested and taken into custody without a shot fired, without being grabbed and pushed to the ground, without being pepper sprayed.

But then he was Kansas GQP state Senator Gene Suellentrop.

UPDATE: Kansas Republicans removed Gene Suellentrop out of office.

Bobservations

When we were in Asheville a few weeks ago, after relaxing in the hotel for a hot minute, we ventured out to find a place for dinner. I’d forgotten it was the last Friday night before Christmas so I didn’t think about crowded spots. But we found a couple, and they sounded good, but, you know, the grass is always greener, so we kept walking.

And then we found Cúrate, a tapas restaurant. We love tapas, going back to one of our first dates twenty years ago, so we went in. Cúrate occupied two older buildings on a slight hill, so half the restaurant was up three steps from the other, with a bar running down the center of both buildings. The lower bar was just for cocktails and appetizers, while the upper bar was basically the kitchen bar where you could order the full menu; we took that option.

And, as things happen in bars, and especially tapas bars, you end up chatting with the people around you about the tapas, which is Spanish for appetizer or small bite; like sushi, you share the tapas and order several dishes.

Now, as I like to say, even though it’s not entirely true, I don’t generally like people; really, that means I don’t chat up strangers, even though sometimes I do. Carlos, on the other hand, will talk to anyone about anything, anywhere, anytime, ever.

We took a seat and  I ordered an Albariño, a Spanish wine from the northwest, and Carlos chose Red Sangria. My wine, as I knew, was wonderful, but Carlos’ was amazing; fermented fruit with brandy and juices and red wine. I died.

Right then a couple sat to Carlos’ left and began studying the menu. The women told her date she didn’t know much about Spanish wine and didn’t know what to get; it was then that Carlos turned to her, he does love to talk, and said:
“If you like, try the Red Sangria, it’s delicious.”
The women turned a side-eye to Carlos and said:
“Uh.”
And turned away. Carlos looked at me like a hurt puppy and I wanted to smack that bitch, but my Fabada had just arrived so, you know.

A moment later, after the two spaces next to me emptied, a couple sat on my right. No sooner had their butts hit the seats did the woman look at me and ask what I was drinking, what we’d eaten and how everything as. We sat and chatted food and wine, and watching the guys cook right in front of us, and it was lovely.

Then Carlos said:
“Oh, Mister I-Hate-People made a new friend and this bitch keeps inching away from me.”
I said:
“Can I help it if people like me?”
Luckily our Chistorra & Chips, and the Buñuelos de Bacalao arrived so all chit-chat stopped.

But, if you’re ever in Asheville, try Cúrate; the food is amazing, and the people, well, most people, are nice,

Remember the big kerfuffle about the Buttigieg dinner in the Napa “wine cave”? Remember Elizabeth Warren slamming Pete in that last debate? So do the owners of the wine cave and the hosts of that dinner and they’re here to set Liz straight.

Craig Hall, owner of the cave along with his wife, Kathryn, say they don’t have $900 bottles of wine as Warren  alleged and, in fact, they didn’t even serve their most expensive bottle, which comes in at $350. Oh, and wine caves are actually pretty common in the Napa Valley because they store wine at cool temperatures.

I know because I’ve been in wine caves and eaten lunch in a wine cave.

I don’t mind the squabbling among the candidates, but get your facts straight, Liz, before you take them to the debate stage.
In April 2018 “evangelist” and youth pastor Acton Bowen was arrested and charged with second-degree sodomy, enticing a child to enter a vehicle or house for immoral purposes, and second-degree sex abuse of a male minor under the age of 16.

This week Acton Bowen was sentenced to 1,008 years in prison after pleading guilty to all counts; he was also ordered to pay $840,000 in fines.

Good.
Is it possible that _____ could be impeached by the House again?

Perhaps; House Counsel Douglas Letter said in a filing in federal court that a second impeachment could be necessary if the House uncovers new [more] evidence that _____ attempted to obstruct investigations of his conduct.

Well, he might actually like that because then he could brag that he was impeached twice, more than any other president in History.

Nobody gets impeached like _____.
Oh how I love me some karma.

Recently WWE wrestler Lars Sullivan was fined $100,000 over comments he made on a bodybuilding forum, some of which were called homophobic. They included comments about the NFL quarterback Philip Rivers:
“Philip Rivers = Crybaby b*tch and is extremely gay. Most of California, especially sothern cal, is gay. Fits well. Hell ‘Philip’ is a gay name in itself!@”
This week Sullivan deleted his Twitter account after it was discovered that he had once done gay adult films under the name Mitch Bennett.

Yup. The homophobe did gay porn.
Karma. Bitch.
Again, karma.

New York GOP Assemblyman Brian Kolb was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated following a crash on New Year’s Eve. Kolb ran his car into a ditch in front of his home; no one was injured and no other vehicles were involved.

This is the same week that Kolb penned a column on the evils and the dangers of drunk driving.

Seriously, you cannot make this shiz up.
We just started watching The Crown—Carlos is a huge royal watcher after receiving a response to a letter he wrote Queen Elizabeth when he was a wee queerling—and it’s really very good. Best of all, at least so far, is Matt Smith as Prince Philip. He is rugged, in that pretty boy way; he looks good in uniform, and better still, he looks better out of uniform.

Just sayin’. That is one royal booty.
