ISBL Asshat of the Week: Josh Miller
About eleven years ago Josh Miller was in a catastrophic car
accident. Both he and his passenger were so drunk at the time that neither one
of them could recall who was actually driving that night, but Miller broke his
neck and was left paralyzed for life.
Luckily, for the uninsured Josh Miller, Medicare and
Medicaid stepped in to pay the $1 million bill for his hospitalization and
rehabilitation.
But this week, as the Arkansas legislature is debating continuing
its privatized Medicaid expansion under Obamacare, Josh Miller, now an Arkansas
State Representative, and Republican, of course, declared his opposition to
Medicaid expansion.
What was good for the goose ain’t apparently so good for the
gander.
To make matters worse, it has been reported that Miller
still receives ongoing coverage
through the government programs, including Medicaid-covered personal care
assistance. Funny, no, that someone who has reaped the benefits of insurance
paid for by the government would work against expanding those same benefits to
others?
But its typical GOP goose-stepping; when Miller needed help,
and it was offered, he took it, but if, say today, another young kid, uninsured
and drunk off his ass, wrecks his car and ends up paralyzed, josh Miller thinks
he should pay his own medical bills.
When asked about his apparent contradiction, Miller said the
difference between young and drunk and stupid Josh Miller and everyone else, is that some of the 100,000 people who have
gained coverage through Arkansas's Medicaid expansion don't work hard enough or
just want access to the program so they can purchase and abuse prescription
drugs.
So, he’s going to punish everyone because of the actions of
some.
I wonder how he might have felt, lying in that hospital bed
all those years ago, hearing he would be in a wheelchair for life, with a one million
dollar hospital bill hanging over his head, if some Arkansas asshat politician
had said to him, Well, it’s your own
damned fault you were so drunk, and your friend was so drunk. Pay your own way.

That's Our Nikki: She Doesn’t Care About The Poor, The Elderly and The Disabled
Nikki Haley so wants to be like Mitt that she has made it clear that she will not expand Medicaid, thereby punishing the poor, the elderly and the disabled of South Carolina.
She says: “South Carolina will NOT expand Medicaid, or participate in any health exchanges. We will not support Pres. Obama’s tax increase or job killing agenda. I WILL do everything I can to get Mitt Romney elected and work to strengthen our Senate so that we can repeal this unAmerican policy aimed at moving our country in the wrong direction.”
So, Haley, like a good GOP lapdog, wants to snub President Obama. That's nothing new; Nikki is one of the lead Goosesteppers in The Party Of No, but the people of South Carolina, especially the poor, elderly and disabled, ought to know what she means by that.
By not expanding Medicaid, some people will be left to die.
According to a new study published in the New England Journal of medicine, residents of states that expand coverage will probably live longer, be healthier and have better access to medical care:
'Medicaid expansions were associated with a significant reduction in adjusted all-cause mortality....Mortality reductions were greatest among older adults, nonwhites, and residents of poorer counties. Expansions increased Medicaid coverage....decreased rates of uninsurance....decreased rates of delayed care because of costs....and increased rates of self-reported health status of “excellent” or “very good”.'
So, you go, Nikki. Get Romney elected and let the people of South Carolina suffer, and perhaps, die for it.
How transparent can you get?
