Although it didn't enjoy the major label hype that his current output does, Walker's HighTone encore just may be his finest album of all, filled with soulful vocal performances, bone-cutting guitar work, and tight backing from the Boss Talkers and the Memphis Horns. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of Walker's remarkably consistent HighTone discs -- but give this one the slightest of edges over the rest. ~Review by Bill Dahl

Joe Louis Walker is a powerful blues guitarist and singer whose versatility and musical courage are showcased throughout this frequently rousing set. Walker collaborates (and sometimes battles it out) with Bonnie Raitt, Ike Turner, Otis Rush, Buddy Guy, Matt "Guitar" Murphy, Taj Mahal, Robert Lockwood Jr. and the Johnny Nocturne Horns on one song apiece, in addition to having three features of his own. Of the many highlights, "Low Down Dirty Blues" (which features Walker and Raitt jamming on slide guitars), the 1940s jump band feel of "Mile-Hi Club," the Walker-Guy guitar explosions on "Every Girl I See," the joyful encounter with Matt Murphy on "Nighttime" and Lockwood's appearance on "High Blood Pressure" are all quite memorable. This all-star gathering works quite well and is consistently memorable; all 11 selections are well worth hearing. ~Review by Scott Yanow

Originally from Dallas, Texas, Cathy Lemons has been performing regularly in the San Francisco Bay Area for the past 25 years. She honed her skills with Anson Funderburgh, played with Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Lee Hooker, Tommy Castro, Ron Thompson, Kid Andersen, Steve Freund and a host of others. Further confirming the universal appeal and contemporary sources of the blues; singer, songwriter and guitarist Johnny Cox from Scotland by way of Canada is the latest and one of the greatest to make his mark on the classic American art form. Emigrating from the British Isles in 1985, he was hit like a thunderbolt by the blues and ever since has been passionately dedicated to the music as evident in every note on his moving, expansive debut.

Eleven original tracks traverse the range of human emotions with the unwavering support of Richard Greenspoon (drums, production), Ian De Souza, Malcolm McCuaig, Jerome Tucker and Kenny Neal, Jr (bass), Marty Sammon (keyboards), Ansgar Schroer and Robbie Bellmore (harmonica), Neil Braithwaite (tenor sax) and Shelley Zubot and Brad Roth (backup vocals). “Your Love” is a jaunty, Stones-y pop rocker evincing the tender expression “That your love drives me crazy. Your love never lets me down. Your sweet love is going to save me. Only your love brings me around,” delivered in warm, dulcet tones. The blues shuffle “High Price to Pay” has Cox looking askance at romance: “I feel just like a raging hurricane. You’d better close up shop, I’ll knock you down just the same,” his raunchy guitar helping make his point. Funky wah wah guitar with a nod to guitar god Jimi Hendrix drives the roiling minor key blues-rock of “Runaway Train” containing the evocative images of “Red hot rails in a trail of burnt, black smoke. Hold on tight. It feels like I’m on a runaway train…” and a twisting guitar solo of compressed anticipation.

The sensual Latin rhythms and tough unison riffs of “New Way” nearly combust with intensity while Cox makes clear his redemption with “Feels like a new day coming. Born like this, but I won’t miss the ride…and though I didn’t know it, you were there right by my side,” his guitar snarling in defiance. Jacking up the energy with the relentlessly swinging shuffle “Something for Me,” Cox reveals his spiritual side with “There’s something for me the day I die. And when it comes a-hauntin’, there’s no need to cry,” the backup vocals “Come, come along with me” adding a layer of comfort. The title track likewise shows his deep convictions via “Talk to me baby, talk to me brother. Talk to me sister, I’ve seen you suffer. It’s a thin blue line we walk with one another” over a buoyant folk rock rhythm. Perpetuating a theme that runs through several compositions, Cox declares “I’ve wasted too much time thinking about it. Now I’m on my way, ain’t got time to wait and see” on the funky blues of “My Destination,” his lyrical solo belying the strength of his resolve.

The urgent boogie and explosive guitar licks of “I’m Fine” emphasize the message “I take it one step at a time. I take two steps and she’s taking nine. Then she went away like I wouldn’t mind” the refrain “And I’m fine, Yeah I’m fine” functioning as a mantra. The trance-inducing reggae “All These Tears” finds Cox again showing gratitude for love with “All these years, you by my side. All my fears and all my pride. Come on, baby, come with me. You are my sunshine. Oh baby, please.” The touching ballad “Long Day” is a classic tale of longing for home through “Because it’s been so long that it frightens me. Yeah, it’s been so long that it quiets me. Four hundred miles and I’m gonna be with you there standing next to me,” his guitar emoting as eloquently as his passionate vocals. The loping shuffle “Didn’t Commit the Crime” ends the infinitely expressive set with Cox giving forth the wry lyric “Cuz I had nothing to do with it, I didn’t commit the crime. I was at home playing my guitar, and that’s my alibi,” his crying axe backing his story to the hilt.

Johnny Cox sings uninhibitedly about the challenge of the metaphorical “blue line” while he and his band play on with unquestionable commitment to the therapeutic power of the blues. Back On The Road is a blues rock band from Siegen .
It was founded in 2006 by the founding members Olaf Nöll , Fritz rattling , Heiko Schmidt, Guido Molzberger and Benny Schmitges .

This CD is the work of three exceptional blues musicians from the Milwaukee area. The trio consists of Jim Liban on harp, vocals and baritone guitar; Jim Schutte on drums; and Perry Weber on guitar and vocals. Simply stated, these fellas are the real deal. Jim Liban is one of the top blues harp players in the world, but woefully under recognized, and is a soulful singer as well. Jim Schutte:
He has been a professional drummer with internationally renowned Blues artists from 1972 – Present. Professional recordings include "I Smell a Rat" with Lester Davenport and Jimmy Dawkins, "The American Living Blues Festival Live in Europe" with a host of blues legends, "Hot Wire '81" with Jimmy Dawkins, "Beauty Isn't Always Visual", with Bryan Lee, "Serious" with Luther Allison, Wound Up Tight with Lonnie Brooks and Johnny Winter, and "Bayou Lightening Strikes Again" with Lonnie Brooks. In addition, taught Blues workshops in France for the French government organization, The Federation National of Activities Musical.

Perry Weber:
Currently fronts Perry Weber & The DeVilles, formed in early 2007. The band plays a mix of Blues/Roots/Americana music. Before forming The DeVilles, the members of the group had toured and/or recorded with such luminaries as: Buddy Guy, James Cotton, Jr. Wells, Bryan Lee, Hubert Sumlin, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Jim Liban, and Nick Moss....just to name a few!!

THE CONCLUSION?
The entire CD has a loose, stripped down juke joint vibe - just guitar, drums, harp and vocals on most tracks. No tricks or gimmicks here, folks. Shoot, the closest thing present to an electric bass guitar (sorry Cornbread) is a baritone guitar. Jim Liban’s harp tone is HUGE, both amplified and acoustic and his vocals are very good. The guitar work of Perry Weber is of the Eddie Taylor less-is-more style (Tasty!) and the drums drive the songs along without overpowering them. A true blues ensemble sound in the spirit of the master of Maxwell Street. Let’s give it a 4.5 on the blues-o-meter (that’s 9 on a 10 scale – not bad at all!)

This is a reissue of the November 6, 1964, Bremen concert that was previously available as Live in Europe 1964 on the Sundown label, with the same incorrect title references. What is first-rate is the sound, which is head-and-shoulders above most of the Howlin' Wolf live recordings of this period, undoubtedly because the show was part of the American Folk-Blues tour, large chunks of which were recorded professionally, and also the performance, which comes from a time when Wolf was still in very robust health. It's been said that if Muddy Waters had been born in Africa, he would have been a king; this show, which Chess Records could only wish they'd recorded, is a reminder that if Howlin' Wolf had been born in Africa, he'd have been a witch doctor or shaman; he's spellbinding in his performance, and the band backing him (a kind of star combo itself, with Willie Dixon and Sunnyland Slim playing alongside Hubert Sumlin) is tight, if a little restrained. I have been a working musician since I was sixteen. It’s been a good life doing what I love for a living, though not without its challenges. After years of recording, working as a musical director, scoring for television and film, producing and writing arrangements for others, I have returned to the place where I began - writing my own songs and performing live.

I think the material I have been working on the last few years has merit. I’ve tested it out in some concert venues the last couple of years and it seems time to let the music go out into the world. So, this year I am releasing it in a series of three CD’s.

Collection One, aptly named, is the first. It is a collection of blues, soul and rock that surveys the current landscape with a hopeful heart. Well, mostly hopeful, and possibly helpful too.

I have this thought that the world is much in need of music as both a balm for the soul and a wake up call for the spirit. There are many wonderful singers and song writers who have offered up their creative work to the universe, and I think we are all better off for it. Here is my offering.

A word about the lyrics. Almost all of them are written by my wife, Candice Bist. She is, of her own accord, a wonderful writer and scholar. But I also happen to think she is remarkably musical, marrying the music effortlessly with her poetry at the same time she seems to channel both my own thoughts, and the deeper voice of the music itself. Quite remarkable really. I cannot say that I am a singer/songwriter, but rather that we are a singer/songwriter. Candice has written short intros before the lyrics of each song to give you an idea of their birthplace.

Danny Sandock is a unique singer/songwriter and instrumentalist whose writing spans blues, folk-rock, and Americana styles. He is a 'one-man band', playing 12-string guitar, harmonica and hi-hat/tambourine while singing, all one time. Danny is a well-travelled troubadour, having opened for Keller Williams, The Wooten Brothers Band, Scott Holt Band, Badfinger, and many others.
Originally from South Bend, Indiana, Danny Sandock has honed his skills as a singer/songwriter and instrumentalist in locales all over the United States, starting with his first paid gig at age 13. His songs are entertaining and fun, painting musical vignettes which explore the everyday idiosyncracies of life. Whether it's jumping from a roof as a child in an attempt to fly, or developing an allergic reaction to work, Danny's songs capture the sometimes humorous folly of life's experiences in ways that leave us smiling.
Danny joined the artist roster at Aardvark Records in 2010 with the release of a 6-song EP titled City of Dreams, a collection of original material recorded in Long Beach, CA. This was followed with the re-introduction of two previous projects, Back To Unreality, and One For All Seasons, which was recorded by Aardvark owner Barry Simon in his Flambay Studios in Austin TX. The Hollywood Fats Band's self-titled (and only) LP from 1979 (on PBT International -- long a collector's item) could be either lauded for being incredibly authentic or knocked for being a bit apish -- were it not for the level of musicianship from Mike "Fats" Mann on guitar, Al Blake on harp, Fred Kaplan on piano, Richard Innes on drums, and Canned Heat's Larry Taylor on upright bass. Great ensemble groove, although the excitement Fats could generate live never really translated to the studio. ~Review by Dan Forte

In March 1977, Muddy Waters, Johnny Winter, and James Cotton did a concert tour together in support of Waters' then-recent Hard Again LP, on which Winter had played guitar (as well as produced) and Cotton had played harmonica. This CD, not released until about 30 years later, has an hour of music drawn from three different shows on the tour. It might have been spurred by a Muddy Waters album, but in fact Waters, Winter, and Cotton all took vocals -- sometimes alone, and sometimes on the same song -- on stage, and these 11 songs feature the vocals of each of the three in about equal measure. Often these kind of touring combinations are too many cooks in the kitchen, or, if not quite that, at least more fun to attend than to listen to on tape. The latter could be said of the material on this disc, which is really just okay, not great, and not even among the best recordings that have been issued of Waters in the mid-'70s. It's still solid and decent, including some Waters classics ("Can't Be Satisfied," "Got My Mojo Workin'," "Trouble No More"), Cotton originals, and covers of staples by Jackie Brenston ("Rocket 88"), John Lee Hooker ("I Done Got Over It"), J.B. Lenoir ("Mama Talk to Your Daughter"), Lowell Fulson ("Love Her with a Feeling"), and Elmore James ("Dust My Broom"), as well as the famed jump blues "Caledonia." It's undeniable, however, that Waters was, even at this relatively advanced age, by far the most commanding singer of the trio. The songs on which his vocals are prominent (especially "Can't Be Satisfied" and "Trouble No More") kind of dwarf the ones on which his singing is absent or secondary, making the cuts that emphasize Cotton and Winter seem rather workmanlike in comparison. Nevertheless, the sound is good, and the band filled out competently with sidemen (particularly Pinetop Perkins on piano), making this a satisfactory listen for serious blues collectors, though a little superfluous for most fans. ~Review by Richie Unterberger

Right now Gerry Jablonski And the Electric Band is one of Scotland’s best rock blues bands. ‘Twist of Fate’ is full of great songs, tight arrangements, passionate playing and real spark. And even if Dave Innes’s ill health has given the album title some unwanted irony, it hasn’t hampered their mission to produce a rip roaring, riff-led, blues rock album of the highest order.

Much like Blues ‘n’ Trouble 25 odd years before them, The Electric Band has had to work that little bit harder to get noticed outside of their native Scotland and Poland, but this album should help immeasurably.

Led by guitarist Gerry Jablonski and powered by the deep toned effervescent harp playing of Pete Narojczyk, ‘Twist of Fate’ takes no prisoners. From the mighty riff powered opening double lines of ‘Slave To The Rhythm’ via the catchy hook of ‘Liar’ to the closing slide harp-led celebratory roller coaster of Suzi Sunshine’, this is an album that rocks with the same kind of intensity and well crafted harmonies that the band brings to its live shows.

Ultimately ‘Twist of Fate’ is all about the quality and wide variety of the material. Everything somehow subtly fits together and flows elegantly on the back of a bristling ‘live in the studio’ approach, which brings an essential vitality to an often tired genre.

Jablonki’s is equally good on a variety of inspired solos – shifting from a resonant tone, to wah-wah inflected crunch and slide – as he is on expressive vocals, while harp player Narojczyk never overplays, but fills the space beautifully with some deep toned phrasing. And when the two coalesce seamlessly as on ‘Taste of Paradise’ the band soars magnificently over a fluid rhythm section.

However, it’s not all fire and brimstone as evidenced by the piano-led, slow blues of the title track. Gerry’s emotive vocal is perfectly counter balanced by a beautifully toned harp and a poignant hook: ‘So why did you throw it all away, there’s no one left to cry for you today, no more joy left in your heart, success always comes too late, we call that a twist of fate’.

The Electric Band is inspired and versatile in equal portions, slipping into the tightly wrought groove of ‘The Dance’ with its ‘yeah yeah’ Beatles style refrain and Gerry’s wah-wah guitar, before the muscular Trower style guitar riff of The Preacher’. The latter is a perfect example of how they successfully build their songs from a riff led base.

There’s still time for a funky instrumental ‘Dave Says’, which drummer Dave Innes nails with with a crisp, stop-time shuffle rhythm, as Pete and Gerry trade solo’s over Grigor Leslie’s walking bass line. It’s the stuff of a classy road tested band that has finally penned the sort of quality material to match their stellar chops.

‘Twist of Fate’ might not offer anything radically new but it breathes fresh life into a hoary old genre, and if tightly arranged, kick ass blues-rock is your bag, then this album comes highly recommended. **** ~Review by Pete Feenstra

“King of the World” is the new Roots Rhythm & Blues group from the Netherlands. Legendary guitarist Erwin Java decided to form a band after the dead of his buddy and blues legend Harry Muskee, with whom he played for over 25 years in Cuby & the Blizzards. The guitarist also known for his work with Jan Akkerman, Larry Carlton and Herman Brood got in lead singer and bass player Ruud Weber, known for his work with Snowy White, Hammond player Govert van der Kolm who played with artist like Coco Montoya, Matt Schofield and Monster Mike Welch, and drummer Fokke de Jong who’s been in the drum seat of the number one dialect band Normaal for over 20 years.
After their first rehearsals in beginning 2012, the rumour started going around the Netherlands and within weeks the first try-outs were booked and sold-out. Soon there was talk of a new superband.
King of the World’s name refers to an old John Lee Hooker song and of course to the three Kings, Albert, Freddy and BB King.
With a wide variety of roots combined with 3 parts harmony singing, they developed their own sound in songs they wrote and performed throughout 2012. This resulted in their recently released debut CD “Can’t go home” that received raving reviews and got them on the Dutch Album charts, National Radio and Television shows.

The Flaming Mudcats return with another brilliant slab of their eclectic roots infused tunes, full of toe tapping, good soul feeling stuff. Craig Bracken’s jazzy vocals ring true and clear on their second offering, that makes you turn the volume up that little bit louder.

Rosco Gordon began his career in Memphis alongside Johnny Ace, BB King and Bobby Bland as part of the Beale Street group in the late 40s. Ike Turner (then a local talent scout) first recorded him for Modern Records in 1951. He next recorded for Sam Phillips who sold a master of Bootin' (Gordon's own composition) to two competing labels, Chess and RPM, a mix-up which did not prevent the song making #1 on the R&B chart in 1952. The follow-up, No More Doggin', another hit, was a hugely influential record, which pre-dated and influenced Jamaican ska.

Following a pattern set by Bootin', it featured a loping shuffle rhythm with a strong accent on the off-beat that depended on monotony for its excitement. It also gave the impression of being inexpertly recorded (it was, in fact, produced in someone's living room) and this slightly shambolic feel was later reflected in much of early Ska. Gordon developed the style which came to be known as 'Rosco's Rhythm', on follow-ups such as New Orleans Wimmen and Lucille.

Johnny Ace, Floyd Dixon, Shirley & Lee, Fats Domino and T-Bone Walker have been cited as seminal influences in the development of post-war Jamaican music but it wasn't until 1959 that the local scene coalesced into a recognisable movement when aspiring musos were galvanised into action by Gordon's No More Doggin' (not available in Jamaica until the end of the decade). No greater authority than former Island Records supremo Chris Blackwell underlined Gordon's importance in the scheme of things in an interview he gave in 1964 - around the time Ska or 'Bluebeat' was experiencing a growth in popularity among white British teenagers.

"Towards the end of the 50s," he explained, "Jamaicans got keen on rhythm and blues, particularly a record called No More Doggin' sung by Rosco Gordon. They got hold of this beat, cheered it up a bit, added some cute lyrics and called it Ska - an onomatopoeic word for the sound the guitar made. From 1959 onwards this was all the rage."

Digitally mastered from primary sources, BOOTIN' contains the cream of Rosco's RPM sides (including one previously unissued title) and represents the distinctive young Gordon at his creative peak. ~by Rob Finnis

The band is made up of five local, accomplished musicians, who each have over 25 years of experience in the Pittsburgh and tri-state area. Ron has opened for national acts such as Robbie Krieger of The Doors and Mark Farner of Grand Funk. Our band performs an upbeat mix of high energy Blues, R&B and Funk. We get crowds on their feet to dance, party, and enjoy your place of business.

In December of 2011, we released our first original CD Heart & Soul. All songs were written and arranged by Ron Vis and recorded at Dave’s World Studio in Ambridge, PA and engineered by Mr. David Granati. Songs from Heart & Soul have been receiving airplay on The WYEP Blues Show Saturday evenings.

We were honored to have track number one from our Heart & Soul CD, “Shake it Up”, selected to be on the Blues From The Burgh III CD. Blues From The Burgh III features the top 12 blues bands from the Blues Society of Western Pennsylvania.

In December 2013, we released our second CD Loud Rockin' Rhythm & Blues. Again all songs were written and arranged by Ron Vis and recorded at Dave's World Studio on Ambridge, PA and engineered by our good friend David Granati. Our new release is another great collection of Rumpshaker originals featuring on fire guitar work, complemented by the smoking hot horn section, also known as "The Weapons of Brass Destruction", and keeping it all going with the rock solid rhythm section. There is a case to be made for the benefits derived from gargling with broken glass and razor blades. Exhibit A-Dan Sinasac. His voice ranges from a tad smoother Tom Waits to a less spastic sounding Joe Cocker. It sure works within his framework of all original R&B that takes chances. And oh those herky-jerky horn arrangements! Dan also plays Hammond B3 organ and/or piano on most tracks and producing as well as writing all the songs. He was raised in Windsor, Ontario, Canada absorbing the sounds of Motown, across the river. He paid his dues in the blues project Jack Shadow.

His raspy vocals and dramatic delivery blend in well with the interesting horn arrangement on “Tow The Line”. “Her Spell” recounts being mesmerized by feminine charms. It also includes some nifty rock guitar. “Born With A Heartache” packs a horn-fueled punch reminiscent of Blood, Sweat & Tears.

“Wonderin’” eschews the horns in favor of a melody carried by guitars that sound like they were supplied by Jeff Beck and David Gilmour in an aching melancholy approach. Girl vocals and guitar fill in the spaces left by the missing horns on “When My Heart Breaks” as the Joe Cocker similarity comes in the vocal. The dramatic tension builds up in “For Goodness Sake”, leading up to Robert Walsh’s slide guitar workout. Dan offers up some nice late night piano on “Honeybee” a slow tender ballad again with a Cocker-ish vibe. The title track starts off as a ringer for the piano part of Eric Clapton’s “Layla”. It’s just Dan at his piano pouring his heart out.

This R&B offering has creativity and imagination written all over it. He takes the best parts of his favorite music and rearranges them into something refreshing and familiar at the same time. He isn’t afraid to interject some soaring fusion guitar soloing into an R&B song. Every aspect of the music is in the right place at the right time. The female vocals serve a vital purpose, rather than just being used for window dressing. He wrings every ounce of emotion out of his weather-beaten voice. This is a fully realized project.

I just received the newest release (March 25, 2014), Traveling South, and it's great! Opening with Traveling South, Mikey Junior shows that he's got a great voice for the blues and absolutely great harp chops and tone to match. A stripped down track with emphases on drums by Michael Bram this track has a dark sound and guitarists Dave Gross and Dean Shot and Mikey on harp really make the best of it! Excellent! Nobody Does It Like It Like Me has a nice lumbering pace driven mostly by Matt Raymond on bass. This is old school blues with emphases on vocal and harp... but that is old school...not old! It's really nice! Morning On My Way opens with tom tom beat and guitar riffs. Mikey's vocals are really super and his harp work paired with the sparing use of crisp guitar inserts it mighty fine. Mill Tavern has a great pace with just the right amount of syncopation that gives New Orleans music it's flair but with harp and guitar instead of horns. Jeremy Baum adds really cool piano work on this track and again a laid back guitar solo is nicely executed. This may be the best vocal track on the release. Katie Lynn has just a touch of country rhythm but with a rockin beat. Different rhythm and paces give harp players a different phrasing and this track shows us yet another side of Mikey's diverse palate. Cool track. Bad Time Blues opens with a cool guitar riff with heavy hand vibrato. I like the sound. A more conventional blues track with a cool story line. Mikey again controls the tempo of this track with is vocal phrasing and the band shows just how tight a blues band can be on a low slung track. Mikey shows his chops again on harp and Short rips these great signature guitar riffs placing this bands high on my want to see list. The Cheat opens with squawking harp and rim shots. A blues rock track with a lot of swagger, Mikey again steps up and takes authority with his harp like few players I've seen do today. It isn't flashy, just crisp and direct. Very nice. You opens with an interesting guitar riff and what I'd call a stumbling drum riff. I like it already! I can see Mikey performing this track in my mind. It's a theatrical piece with a lot of sonic animation. Mikey (with Lee Oskar like tone) and Shot trade punches over this stumbling beat...excellent! Possibly my favorite track overall. She's Good At Being Bad, with a vocal melody, tremelo laden guitar chords and percussive drum stiffeners is a cool listener. A different approach to your basic blues number and one that has real merit. Please Come Back is much more down the middle of blues highway with R&B bass line. A definite James Brown return on this track gives it a cool feel and Shot again steps up with a really nice guitar solo followed by Mikey on harp. This track has a really nice riff filled ending with vibrato bends on guitar... excuse my excessive guitar interest but that's who I am! Wrong Number, the first soul ballad on the release is really nicely written and executed with Baum stepping up on B3. Mikey again shows how strong his vocals really are. An easy radio play... really! The last track, Trying To Do the Best I Can, is the surprise of the release with an acoustic country blues feel. After forming in 2003 and experiencing a few line-up changes, the final version of Fats Wah Wah has been together since 2006.

Honing their sound at long residencies at The Scarab Bar Belgrave, The St. Andrews Pub and the Rainbow Hotel Fitzroy they released their first CD 'Fats Wah Wah' in 2006, 2007 they released their second CD 'Fats Wah Wah Live' to critical acclaim, and continued to build a cult following of dedicated Fats fans.

After great success with their 3rd CD 'Surfs Up in Gembrook' launched to several full houses including the auspicious 'Prince of Wales', they have just released their 4th, a double live CD, 'Monsterio Delicioso'.

RRR presenter and drummer of Daddy Cool Gary Young described the Fats sound as 'tough but sensitive' combining as it does elements of delta blues, reggae, country, and free flowing improvisation, all with an unerring ear for a hook. RRR along with 3PBS, ABC National and 3MDR have all been extremely supportive giving 'The Fats' regular airplay.

'The Fats' have also enjoyed great success at such Festivals as Mordialloc Food/Wine, Apollo Bay, Eltham Jazz & Blues and Thredbo

Many of the songs are characterized by a killer riff, some have weird chord structures and time signatures. Others are heavy on the harmony chorus and hypnotic vocal chants. All are uniquely 'Fats' with the rasping bluesy lead vocals of Luke Spekes sometimes giving way to a more Dylan-esque whine or sometimes a whispered plea.

Energy levels are felt as a controlled and understated power which could jump off the leash at any time. Excitement is always high with Luke seemingly plugged into a wall socket and the backing vocalists swaying and flowing while the rest of the band take the groove out the window and round the universe.

Watch out for 'Fats Wah Wah', you'll never hear another band like them.

Frequent trips to the USA brought him to collaborate with many Blues artists mainly in Chicago : touring with Carlos Johnson , Little smokey Smothers , collaborating on the Lurrie Bell's " Let's talk about love " album's production . Meanwhile Vincent , intrested by the links between the blues and different african music forms , took many trips to Africa , touring and recording with Malian legend Boubacar Traoré , Donny Elwood from Cameroon , Tao Ravao from Madagascar etc ? David James Brinston was born April 19, 1959, in Marks, Mississippi. He is the 3rd child of 12 sisters and brothers. His family instilled in him a strong work ethic and healthy family values. David is an American Recording Artist who has made a significant contribution to Southern Soul (blues) and R&B music. David’s family relocated to Clarksdale, Mississippi where he grew up and continued his education. David and his siblings formed a gospel group and performed at Church and local events in Clarksdale, Coahoma County, Mississippi. David was the lead vocalist. In 1990, he decided to begin a music career and with the support of his family relocated to Memphis, Tennessee and signed with Jomar Records. In partnership with Jomar Records, David produced his first hit single “Love Maker.” In 1992 he record “Hit and Run” his first Album and “Slow Down from the Run Around” on Jomar Record Label. In 1993, he recorded “Two Way Love Affair,” his biggest hit and still today one of the hottest songs on the charts of R&B. David’s latest CD “Beat It Up” is steadily climbing the charts. The facebook Blues was a gift. I believe that God has his own way of talking through all of us and there is a message in the CD. Neal Wyms spent most of his musical life playing electric bass and keyboards.Playing behind a few well known artist such as Clarence Carter and Willian Bell ans also touring with Speech (lead singer of Arrested development) plus many others. Born into a musical family and to a father who loved the blues, music came easy. Playing guitar however came late. It wasnt until mid 2013 that the acoustic guiter fell into his hands and within a couple of months time these magical hit songs started to pour into his mind and hands. In a two week period Neal Wyms wrote 26 songs on this guitar ( check UTUBE). and months later He recorded this whole project in another two weeks. Lack of musicians to work with forced Neal to record all the instruments himself. All the songs are real and have a life. Blue Touch is a band based in the UK and perform, what they like to call, Blues Rock with an edge, and features Neil Sadler (Guitar and Vocals), Adam Cleaves (Guitar and Vocals), Andrea Maria (Vocals), Hugh Lawrenson (Drums), and Merv Griffin (Bass). Additional artists on "IV" included Keith Jones (Harmonica) and Woosehill Philharmonic.

"IV" consists of 12 Tracks which include a nice mix of originals, covers, and traditional arrangements. Of the 4 originals, Neil Sadler, Adam Cleaves, Andrea Maria, and Dennis Siggery, are credited with the writing, with Neil co-writing 3, Adam and Dennis co-writing 1 and Andres co-writing 1 and solely writing 1.

For the covers and traditional arrangements, Blue Touch chose a wide assortment of songs, such as "Big Bad Handsome Man", a song by Irish rockabilly singer Imelda May, "Hangman Jury", "a song by American hard rock band Aerosmith, written by lead singer Steven Tyler, guitarist Joe Perry, and outside collaborator Jim Vallance and is a re-working of an old blues song, used by numerous artists over the years, particularly Lead Belly and Taj Mahal", "32-20", known as 32-20 Blues, "is a song by Delta blues musician Robert Johnson, The title refers to the .32-20 Winchester cartridge. The song is partially based on the Skip James song "22-20 Blues", and was an arrangement by Blue Touch on this album.

A few of the other covers and traditional arrangements were, "St. James' Infirmary", "an American folksong of anonymous origin, though sometimes credited to the songwriter Joe Primrose (a pseudonym for Irving Mills)", "Wayfaring Stranger", "is a well-known American spiritual/folk song likely originating in the early 19th century about a plaintive soul on the journey through life. It became one of Burl Ives's signature songs, included on his 1944 album The Wayfaring Stranger", and a song that I thought I would have never heard covered, Tony Orlanda and Dawn's "Tie A Yellow Ribbon". "Tie A Yellow Ribbon" was actually done really well, in more of a bluesy style, which kind of threw me off a bit until I realized the song they were singing.

All the songs on "IV" were performed very well and certainly lived up to, Blues Rock with an edge, which the edge part being more on the beginning of the album and the Blues and Blues Rock part being more at the end of the album, especially the last 4 Tracks, ""St. James' Infirmary", "32-20", "Trouble", and "Magnolia Blues". In fact, it was the last track "Magnolia Blues", that really got my attention on how good they sounded doing a straight Blues song and I had the feeling that I would like to hear more of that style from Blue Touch, not saying that the other music was not enjoyable, just that there is a nice little Blues niche there that they might want to fully explore someday.

"IV" was certainly an interesting and entertaining album to listen to and was a great intro to a band I had not heard of. Everyone involved was just great whether it was the Singing or the Instrumental aspect. I particularly liked the fact that, as far as singing was concerned, they mixed it up a bit with a few different members taking the lead, with the icing on the cake being Andrea Maria.

There is a lot of nice stuff on "IV" and it is certainly an album I would not hesitate in recommending for those that not only like Blues and Blues Rock, but also for those that don't mind a little extra treat now and then. ~Review by John Vermilyea (Blues Underground Network)
