The road-tested blues duo Long Tall Deb & Colin John return with Light It Up. Known for their globe-spanning musical journey and genre-blending approach, the pair deliver a set that leans deep into blues-rock muscle and soul. Long Tall Deb’s commanding vocals meet Colin John’s raw, shape-shifting guitar work across a slate of originals, along with two sharp reinventions: Willie Dixon’s “Spoonful” and the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams,” reimagined with a Texas blues shuffle. The album was co-produced and co-written with Chris Butler (The Waitresses), who also handles drums and bass on several tracks. Rounding out the lineup are guest turns from Canadian harmonica ace Steve Marriner, drummer Jason Edwards, guitarist Alastair Greene, French bluesman Pascal Fouquet, and backup vocalist Jennifer Milligan.

As the title track so clearly professes, Long Tall Deb and Colin John are ready, willing and able to “start a new kind of fire.” They strike a match on the song and let it burn. With a blues pulse and a video to match, the song calls out the familiar culprits: misinformation, institutional greed, and the long shadow of putting profit over people. These may sound like modern ailments, but the blues has always named them out loud. Amen. /Lauren Leadingham, American Blues Scene

Long Tall Deb - Streets Of Mumbai EP

Bitrate: MP3@320K/s
Time: 18:25
Size: 42.2 MB
Styles: Electric blues
Year: 2015
Art: Front

[3:57] 1. Streets Of Mumbai
[3:56] 2. Jailhouse
[3:34] 3. Hole In My Heart
[6:57] 4. Shine That Song Like Gold

Long Tall Deb and Colin John combine a genre-bending and refreshingly original new sound on their new VizzTone EP Streets of Mumbai. The richly-textured layers on these four tracks incorporate world influence with a soul-blues base picked up on their travels throughout India, Nepal, Hawaii and the American South. Together with a whip-smart band: Nate Hollman, organ; Melvin Powe, bass; and Jo El and Brandon Pettiford on drums, they have created forward-thinking, next-generation music crowned with an old soul. Streets of Mumbai was produced and engineered by Michael Landolt (Maroon 5, O.A.R) at Curry House Records.

"Long Tall Deb raises attitude to a new latitude. Her songs cook with more smoke and sauce than all of Memphis, and her soul will break your back. Colin John’s guitar flogs you with a cotton branch ’til you bleed honey. Together they ride a no-brakes rhythm section locomotive to a time when the rooms were red, the music was black and the untold tales waited patiently for the coming of the voice worthy of the telling. Get ready. Here she comes.” ~Terry Abrahamson

Long Tall Deb & The Drifter Kings - Raise Your Hands

Bitrate: MP3@320K/s
Time: 45:37
Size: 104.4 MB
Styles: Electric blues
Year: 2012
Art: Front

[3:53] 1. What Would A Good Woman Do
[3:26] 2. Hush Your Mouth
[2:51] 3. Train To Tucson
[3:23] 4. Let's Get Lost
[3:39] 5. The Last Time

[3:41] 9. Raise Your Hands
[4:57] 10. Muddy Jesus
[5:47] 11. To Find His Home
[2:13] 12. New Coat Of Paint

It’s not just her honey and molasses-soaked voice, who About.com described as “the best mix of Koko Taylor’s heart and Etta James’ soul” or her keen, nuanced songwriting that blend experience with a hint of mysticism (Long Tall Deb’s Texas/Mexico border roots are never far away from her songwriting). What Long Tall Deb brings to the studio and the stage is nothing short of one-of-a-kind. She goes beyond the “my-man-done-me-wrong” songs to paint a stunning picture that is deep, full-bodied and a reflection of who she is, as evidenced on her well-received VizzTone debut “Raise Your Hands”. Now with the release of her upcoming single, “Streets of Mumbai”, produced by Mike Landolt and inspired by her recent touring in Southeast Asia, she continues to push the envelope stylistically and musically.

This past year’s highlights include a coveted slot at North America’s second largest music festival: the Ottawa Blues Festival, headlining dates at Buddy Guy’s Legends, opening slots for B.B. King and Robert Cray, numerous other festivals, a tour of Italy and a tour India and Nepal culminating in a performance at the Himalayan Blues Festival. Her band feature an explosive group of musicians: Colin John on guitars, John Popovich on organ and piano, Melvin Powe on bass and Jo El on Drums.
