Ola Dixon is from Marion, South Carolina. Her introduction to music was through the gospel church. She also heard the latest in blues and R&B on a nighttime radio broadcast out of Nashville. It was during this period that the seeds were sown for her love of these musical styles. By the end of the 60's, Ola began singing with the late guitarist Charles Walker's Band in NYC. It was also during this period that her drumming career began. Ola made her drumming debut during a recording session for the legendary producer Bobby Robinson. The result was Charles Walker's Blues from the Apple. She continued to work with Walker until his passing in 1975. At this point, Paul Oscher (Muddy Waters' former harp player) hired Ola to play in his popular Chicago Breakdown Blues Band. They often featured the Queen of the Blues, Victoria Spivey. Ms. Spivey became a mentor and great personal friend to Ola. As the 70's came to a close, Ola played with the likes of Big Walter Horton, Jimmy Rogers, and Sugar Ray and the Bluetones with Ronnie Earl. In the 80's, Ola put in several years playing with Luther "Guitar Jr." Johnson.. She also was a member of the house band at the Abilene Cafe, where she backed up several top blues performers including Johnny Littlejohn, Magic Slim, and Pinetop Perkins.
