Since 1990 Shun resides in Chicago and he has performed and recorded with such blues, soul, R&B and jazz legends as B.B.King, Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, Otis Rush, Johnny and Shemekia Copeland, Bo Diddley, Robert Lockwood Jr, Hubert Sumlin, James Cotton, Tyrone Davis, Willie Clayton, Brian McKnight, Dave and Louis Myers, Irma Thomas, Denise LaSalle, Marva Wright, Roy Hargrove, Mark Turner, Mark Whitfeild, Kenny Wayne Shepperd, Pinetop Perkins, Lonnie Brooks, Eddy Clearwater, Marcia Ball, Kenny Neal, Billy Branch, Dan Aykroyd (Blues Brothers) and Susan Tedeschi.

Shun has recorded several albums under his own name, such as "Rising Shun"(2007), and also appeared on many albums as a guitarist includes Koko Taylor's Grammy Awards nominated "Old School".

Shunsuke "Shun" Kikuta was born in Utsunomiya City, a Tokyo suburb, in 1966. In 1986 Shun moved to Boston and enrolled at the Berklee College of Music where he studied jazz composition, arrangements, and harmonic theory. George Benson, whom Shun credits as having a tremendous influence on him, was guest of honor at Berklee's graduation ceremony in 1990 and presented Shun with his diploma. Shun then moved to Chicago to play the Blues, playing weekly at Rosa's Lounge with the Louis Myers band. Over the years he has produced and collaborated on many blues recordings, in addition to his own leading albums "They Call Me Shun" (later released as "Me and My Guitar" on Bluesox in the USA), "and Chicago Midnight" in 1995 and 96.

One of the top blues guitarist, Shun Kikuta's first acoustic solo album. In 2020 while his touring was limited by COVID 19, he decided to focus making an acoustic album. Total of eleven songs and eight of his own and other three are the well known covers. One of them features France's young blues ace, El Jose and recorded duo in France.

Shun resided in Chicago, known as a home of blues, over two decades and he was a regular guitarist of Koko Taylor, "Queen of the blues" for nine years until her passing. He also was a long time member of 2010 Chicago Music Awards winning band J.W.Williams & Chi-Town Hustlers. Currently he focuses on his own group "Shun Kikuta Band" and "Blues Company".
