Rock music! Timeless, powerful, dynamic, melodic and varied: It takes only a few adjectives to describe the musical world of the Australian trio VDELLI. Anyone who has ever experienced the band built around frontman Michael Vdelli on stage or at least owns one (or better several) of their albums, knows the unbridled energy of the group, their relentless line of approach and unwavering Rock ’n’ Roll attitude. So, you believe you know what to expect when the first notes of their new album Out Of The Sun come pounding out of the speakers. At the same time one is amazed in a most positive way, because the current disc not only offers VDELLI we have come to expect, but also some exciting innovations and successful surprises. Out Of The Sun is both the logical continuation of their 2015 release Higher and also brings a vitality and downright exuberant rock piñata with addictive effect.

“We wanted to produce an album that sounds simultaneously raw and experimental,” explains Michael Vdelli, founder, namesake, guitarist and singer of the band. “That is why we have taken more risks than ever before, both in our playing and recording techniques.” Bassist Leigh Miller adds: Out Of The Sun is the next logical step after Higher, because there were no limits to the songwriting and arrangements and we have further evolved our image towards a more hard rock and alternative sound. “

Michael Vdelli and Leigh Miller are the compositional heads of the group, a closely cooperating team, which complement each other perfectly, mutually inspired, and offering different approaches in versatility and artistic colours. Since Miller has joined VDELLI seven years ago, his importance to the band has steadily increased. For the first time in the band’s history, he contributed not only half of the song ideas, but even came in on one of the pieces (‘Rock Out’) as a lead singer.

The third man is drummer and new member of the band Hanser Schüler who debuts on Out Of The Sun, but already puts his own stamp on VDELLI. After original drummer Ric Whittle remained in Australia as the band decided to spend more time overseas in 2015 leaving the drum stool vacant, VDELLI struck gold on the search for a suitable successor in Hamburg. “We tested numerous candidates, a lot of really good drummers, but with Hanser it clicked with us instantly,” says a pleased Michael Vdelli. “His style fits perfectly with the band, and he was immediately appealing to us. Hanser is not only a fabulous drummer and backing vocalist, but has also contributed many ideas. He contributes significantly to the development of the band, and helps us get closer to our true sound and style. ”

Vdelli - Higher

02. Catatonic (2:57)
03. Feline (3:03)
04. Higher (3:51)
05. I Can’t Cover For You Forever (3:55)

11. Alive Again (3:56)

With its 2013 studio release Never Going Back and the sizzling follow-up Live & On Fire, hard-rocking trio Vdelli created Tsunami-sized waves that traversed the globe from its headquarters in Perth, Australia and crashed down hard upon Continental Europe. The lyrical purging of personal demons on cuts like "Change The View" and "Dream Girl Nightmare," paired with a muscular musical attack, resonated with fans and critics alike. Never Going Back was hailed in the German press as a "true steamroller of an album" (Access All Areas) and a "superb album of timeless quality" (Breakout) and was selected by Rocks magazine as one of the top albums of the year.

But despite that album's resounding success, band leader Michael Vdelli was in no mood to try and repeat the formula on his newest studio effort, fittingly entitled Higher. Instead, the aim was to kick it up a notch and take the combo's already-potent blend of powerhouse rock to the next level.

"The only preconception, in my head at least, was to make an album that shows we can write and perform contemporary rock that is relevant," says singer, guitarist and chief songwriter Michael Vdelli. Yet this doesn't begin to tell the whole story. When they hunkered down to make Higher, Vdelli and bandmates Ric Whittle (drums) and Leigh Miller (bass) all felt ready to push the sonic envelope. "We recorded it at home in Australia and did heaps of crazy stuff, getting sounds and messing with amps, drums and mic placements and effects. We had it sounding more like a garage band at this stage. Very raw and aggressive, pretty much like our previous two CDs."

The trio then called upon German co-producer Achim Lindermeir (who also worked on the 2010 release Take A Bite) to give the raw files a bit more punch. "Achim streamlined the whole thing and made it sound more modern and a whole lot slicker. This is why we got him on board – to give us a fresh sound and help launch us into broader market acceptance."

But don't let that statement fool you: Anyone who listens to Higher should get ready for a wild and adventurous ride. After the prog-tinged teaser "Don't Know How I Got Here," the disc charges out of the gate with the buzz-saw energy of "Catatonic" and soon adds echoes of gospel to the heavy sludge of the title track "Higher." "Dark and Lonely Place" is an entirely different animal: a somber and melodic semi-acoustic tale. The album hits the home stretch in full gallop with the brisk "My Baby Does It Better" and reaches breakneck speed on "The Only" before crossing the finish line with the chugging riffs and swirling electricity of "Alive Again" – surely Vdelli's most experimental number to date.

A readiness to take risks applies to the vocals as well. Determined to leave his comfort zone as a singer, Michael Vdelli enlisted the help of friend and contemporary Christian Parkinson of the Perth-based outfit Sleeping Giant. The transformation is so remarkable that long-time listeners may barely recognize him on some of the new cuts. "Christian would take what I had sung and say, 'Why not try singing it like this or that?' Which was awesome! His influence on some of the melodies should not be underestimated. His voice is also throughout the album singing power backing vocals and adding his unique color to our sound."

Higher. The name suggests a continuous ascent. Like being halfway up a mountain and taking the next leg of the journey toward the summit. Or having a good buzz on when the band kicks in and transports you to another dimension.

That kind of upward movement is what Vdelli's fifth international release for Jazzhaus Records is all about. "Artistically," says Vdelli, "I feel we've achieved our goal of producing something fresh and energetic that has progressed from our last effort. So now we wait and see how it is received by the people. I can’t wait to be on the road playing these songs live!".

Outstanding studio disc by this bad-ass, axe rippin', blues/rock power trio from Australia featuring Michael Vdelli on guitar & vocals. Strong, muscular riffage and way-kool, soul-powered, whiskey-soaked vox rule in the world of Vdelli. 12 tracks of top-shelf, world-class, ass-kickin', hard-edged, powerful, bluesy heavy guitar grooves that will rock your blues into the dirt. Excellently produced by veteran studio ace Kevin Shirley (Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Bonamassa, among others) who puts a fresh, exciting new "sonic spin" on this amazing power trio riff:machine. If you dig your blues/rock riffage with a killer, groove-induced, guitar heavy edge that rides hard, solid & funky on the big, electric boogie train, tune into the Vdelli disc @ all costs.

“Got to get over you/ got to get myself together before I get too old”, sings Michael Vdelli on the opening track of his three piece’s latest album Never Going Back, yet on the strength of their annual Eurotours including repeat appearances at Sweden Rock Fest, the only thing these guys aren’t over is hard rocking blues.

The cover shows a hot car moving at high velocity through a desertscape, and that’s the band summed up – moving forwards fast with high octane power, pedal down hard and looking dead ahead, all eyes on the finish line.

It’s not just the Michael Vdelli show though. Sure, his raw vocals and beefy guitar are the centrepiece, but it wouldn’t mean half as much without such a tight and grooving rhythm section – comprised of drummer Ric Whittle and bass player Leigh Miller – underpinning proceedings with style, power and grace.

Vdelli - Live & On Fire EP2

Size: 51,7 MB
Time: 22:16
File: MP3 @ 320K/s
Released: 2014
Styles: Blues Rock
Art: Front

01. Loose Endz (4:10)
02. Into The Zone (4:40)
03. Could Be Good (5:33)
04. She Don’t Care (4:24)
05. Boogie A (3:26)

VDELLI are a unique three-piece rock band of rare quality and substance.

Formed in Perth, Australia in 1997, VDELLI quickly established themselves in the club scene of the “world’s most isolated city” and within a short period of time the band achieved local success and gained a support slot for ZZ Top on their “XXX Australian Tour” and supported acts such as B.B. King, Buddy Guy and Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

The trio started constant touring in Europe, building up a loyal fanbase. In 2007 VDELLI co-headlined the “Fehmarn Festival” in Germany playing in front of 30.000 people. Soon after, German indie-label Jazzhaus Records signed the band and released Ain't Bringing Me Down (2009), which was recorded under the guidance of producer Kevin Shirley who is known for his work with such great acts as Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Iron Maiden, Journey, Black Crowes, to name a few. The follow-up Take A Bite (2010) shows a more versatile side of the group and combines elements of blues-, indie- and mainstream rock. The two albums have already been making a significant statement amongst rock listeners and have both been voted among "Best Rock Albums Of The Year" by German "Rocks" magazine.

Over the years, one of VDELLIs’ greatest strengths has been their consistently high-standard live presentation and performance. With over 150 gigs a year and 16 tours throughout Europe since the band started, VDELLI has to be considered one of the most hard-working bands around and most critics are found wanting to find superlatives to describe this astounding live act.

The current line-up features singer and guitarist Michael Vdelli, a charismatic frontman whose vocal diversity ranges from smooth, soulful, bluestones to the voice of a Rock n Roll madman about to explode. Combined with his powerhouse guitar playing, Michael has a stage presence that continues to captivate audiences. He is considered by many industry insiders and fans alike to be one of the shining lights in the genre.

On drums, the group features Ric Whittle, a master drummer with a lifetime of experience on his instrument that is immediately evident from the first bar he plays. Lightning chops and brutal energy, combined with taste and class give a clue as to what to expect from this heavyweight of contemporary drumming.

Bass player Leigh Miller has joined the band in 2010. Sharp witted, with boundless energy and always affable, Leigh brings to the band not only the solid groove and pump orientated playing the group requires, but also a personality that fits perfectly into the pressure cooker situation that is VDELLI.

This collaboration stimulates highly improvised performances in a hard rock fusion of blues and funk influences.
