The Chess Project was assembled by Marshall Chess, son of Leonard Chess, one of the two brothers who ran Chicago’s storied blues label Chess Records from the 1940’s through the 1960s, issuing records by Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Koko Taylor, Little Walter, Etta James, and many other greats. The The Chess Project has an album out now called New Moves on which they recast some old Chess label hits, and some blues classics that weren’t on the Chess label. The band is headed up by drummer Keith LeBlanc, who rose to prominence in the house band of a hip-hop label, Sugar Hill, and brings that perspective to the group. ~Jonny Meister
