DVL is a "Blues super group", playing Blues so dirty you can smell it!!!

DVL is a cross-continental “Blues Super Group” comprising of Austin based Vocalist/Harmonica player Guy Forsyth and members of British Blues Hall Of Famers, The Hoax.

In 2013 Guy Forsyth and The Hoax were separate headliners at Bluesrock Festival in Tegelen, NL. A brief pre-gig dressing room discussion resulted in Guy jumping onstage with The Hoax to perform “Going To The Church” by The Red Devils. In 2016 the two acts combined to create DVL, initially as a special headline act at Bluesrock Festival, playing a tribute set to The Red Devils. After two short European tours proved such a success, DVL have decided to return with the same hard edged raw blues sound and a new set of material.

Guy Forsyth is an Award Winning multi-instrumentalist and founding member of the legendary Asylum Street Spankers. His powerful vocals have always formed the bedrock of his varied and eclectic musical career.

Jon Amor is a founding member of The Hoax and enjoyed continued success with his varied solo career. Nominated multiple times as British Blues Guitarist of The Year, his is revered for his no nonsense and uncompromising approach to the Blues art form.

Robin Davey is also a founding member of The Hoax. His latest project sees him taking guitar duties with California based band Well Hung Heart who were recently voted Best Live band at the prestigious OCMA’s.

Mark Barrett has been a staple of the British Blues scene for 20 years. Joining The Hoax in 1997 he has established himself as the master of the shuffle and set a new standard for British Blues drummers.

Dave Doherty a former member of the Jon Amor Blues Group completes the group on Bass Guitar.

Traditionally speaking, Guy Forsyth isn't strictly a bluesman. True, he covers Bo Diddley and Muddy Waters, but he is more concerned with expanding the palette of the blues than paying reverence to his idols. His style varies wildly from song to song, from the straight Delta blues of "Poor Boy" to the slouching psychedelic monster "Good Time Man." Forsyth isn't a great guitarist or singer, but his energy is commanding and his delivery is natural enough to put his ideas across, especially on the jump blues workout "Makin' Money." His music isn't for everyone, but when he finds a groove, he pounds it home with all he's got. ~Jim Smith

Guy Forsyth - 3 albums: The Pleaser / High Temperature Live / Red Dress Live

Guy Forsyth grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, where he became a street-smart entertainer, who worked, among other things, as a comic stuntman at renaissance faires. In order to develop more as a musician he moved in January 1990 to Austin, Texas. Here he soon had his own band, and he found work in bars - like Joe's Generic Bar, that didn’t pay him but would let him play for tips. It was in this bar, in the spring of 1993, that his performance was seen by Sjef Willemen, a.k.a. Doc O-Zone, who was so overwhelmed with it, that at that spot, he decided to start a record company, Lizard Discs.

A few months later, on June 18, 1993, the performance of the Guy Forsyth Band was recorded at Metropool in Hengelo, the Netherlands. This was a legendary show that lasted till 5:00 a.m., an exhausting event for both band and audience, but what a great show! This resulted a year later in the release of the 1st CD of Guy and Lizard Discs: "High Temperature". This was followed by a European tour, with highly successful performances at the Blues Festival in Peer, Belgium and in Notodden, Norway, later followed by the Bluesrock Festival in Tegelen, the Netherlands.

In December 2013 a new blues CD was recorded in Austin, Texas, by Andre Zweers and Stuart Sullivan from Wire Recording. This has become a wonderful, varied CD, called "The Pleaser " which will be released along with "Red Dress" the “High Temperature” companion disc..

Guy Forsyth's debut album, High Temperature, suffers a bit from his unfortunate tendency to deliver lyrics as if they were jokes, but there's a lot of merit to his music. Forsyth and his backing band have real energy and can turn his originals (plus a handful of covers, like Jimmy Reed's "Mr. Luck" and Elmore James' "Done Somebody Wrong") into real barn-burners. It takes a little work to get beyond the feeling that this is all a parody, however, so this may try the patience of some hardline purists. Those that can take the bad with good, however, will hear some sturdy roadhouse boogie. ~Thom Owens
