Open All Hours (2004) is The Hamsters' ninth album. It was recorded during a hectic touring schedule June/July 2003. The band's notorious self-deprecating humour came to the fore with the artwork for this particular album. It featured several pictures of famous movie stars and classic British comedy stars with heads being replaced (and not always in a flattering manner) by members of the band. The whole booklet was designed to represent the walk from the box office to the screen of an old-fashioned British flea-pit cinema. Slim has stated that this will most likely be the last CD release by The Hamsters, and that all subsequent releases will be on the DVD format. /Wikipedia

Based in Southend, Essex, England, this blues rock trio was formed at a rehearsal on 1 April 1987 by ex-Kursaal Flyers member ‘Snail’s Pace Slim’ (b. Barry Martin, Essex, England; guitar/vocals). Named after an alias used by the Sex Pistols, Martin, Andy ‘Zsa Zsa’ Billups (bass) and Rev. Otis (drums) began playing locally, their powerful live performances belying the inoffensiveness of their name. Setting up their own mailing list to promote records and gigs, they currently hold over 20, 000 names on database, justifying their strong belief in self-promotion. Perennial regulars on the club/pub circuit in the south of England, the enthusiasm of the band’s loyal live following easily outweighs the harsh criticism meted out to them by members of the press. They have also released several albums to date, including their 1990 CD debut Electric Hamsterland, which consisted entirely of Jimi Hendrix cover versions. /AllMusic
