King Pug was started by British singer, songwriter and producer Dave Wilkinson in the summer of 2013. Wilkinson's work as a session musician and producer had required a deep understanding of many genres of music, but his urge to get "back to basics" led him to ask long time friend and collaborator Caspar St. Charles to fill the drum stool. The two musicians had a pretty long list of session gigs behind them including work with Sharon Jones, Jackson Browne, Brian Jackson (Gil Scott Heron), George Brath (Blue Note Records), Charlie Wood, Geoff Young (Sting, Steely Dan), Hook Herrera (Allman Brothers, Richie Sambora.) Wilkinson had also spent the past 4 years working solo under the name David Philips and touring Europe extensively to promote his solo records. Their mastery of many styles from Be Bop to Hard Rock help give King Pug their unique and tight sound.

2 digital only EPs, "Borneo Mint Shave" and "Water Pressure" were released on Black and Tan records in Holland, recorded and produced by Wilkinson in the duo's own Dog House Studio. Their first full length "Grocery", once again totally self produced by Wilkinson, was self released in October 2014. King Pug make raw, groovy, hook heavy blues rock. For them the song is just as important as the riff or the sound of the record. "With good songs you've won half the battle."

Indie-Blues-Rock duo King Pug was a project started by hyperactive English guitarist, singer, producer and songwriter Dave Wilkinson as an outlet for a back catalogue of songs that didn't seem fit with his other various musical incarnations. Heavily based in the blues with driving rhythms provided by fellow country man Caspar St. Charles, King Pug could be compared to The Black Keys and The White Stripes due to their duo format... if you were lazy! But with a British touch notable in Wilkinson's voice and writing, and a long, varied career as session musicians, the duo certainly add their own flavour to the mix, enough to carve them their own niche in the “power duo” scene.
Their debut E.P. “Borneo Mint Shave” was written, produced, mixed and mastered by Wilkinson in his own “D.I.Y.” studio.
