For a decade, Boogie Matt (guitar, harp and vocals) and "Sleepy" Vince (double bass, drums) have been traveling all over Europe and have been touring almost every major blues festival.

Bo Weavil turn the clock back by half a century. They play the blues of the 50s authentic, lead the audience to the roots of the blues, so you can hear Joe Hill Lewis or Junior Parker at the Maxwell Street Market in Chicago. What is especially remarkable is that they play almost exclusively their own pieces.

Boogie Matt blew a few years of harmonicas in bluesbands in the Paris area until he met "Sleepy" Vince in the early 1990s. Vince was a member of the very successful rockabilly band "Booze Lovers". Together they decided to found a blues band, which returns to the origins of blues music.

In the current work, the two Frenchmen serve 14 own boogies and blues nuances with incredible pressure, authenticity and "old" sound. It is quite convincing to both the intensity and vitality known from their live concerts to be audible on the disc.

An absolute must for all lovers of vintage sounds.

Howling Wolf meets Mercy Baby. Elmore James dukes it out with Little Walter. Jimmy Rogers and Robert Nighthawk. Sonny Boy Williamson meets .. well .. one of the other Sonny Boys. The Bo Weavil Blues Band may well come from France (not usually known as a hot bed for Mississippi delta blues) but when you hear them, you're transported to the south with poverty, segregation, Jim Crow and fish house functions. Days spent in toil over cotton, nights tapping the rotting floorboards in some moonshine soaked flop house.

The spirits of the above blues legends seep through this blues band, with a large dollop of John Lee Hooker at his Von Battle best. And like all the great blues men, all the songs are original compositions, albiet a variance on a well-worn theme. If you're a fan of these guys above and like your music down & dirty, this is the record that'll be permanently glued to your turntable. It's Downhome blues bop at its best. Originally from Paris, Bo Weavil raises a deep-timbred, warm and powerful voice, which one could easily imagine being that of an African-American singer. Bo mostly sings his own compositions, supported by his hypnotic electric guitar style alternating chords and slide. Cherry on the cake, he complements his singing by fat brass sounding harmonica riffs. Multi-instrumentalist, producer, arranger, he recorded most of his projects in his own studio. Since 1994, with over 1200 concerts to his credit, Bo Weavil has toured all the European countries and even made it across the Atlantic, playing in the most prestigious Blues & Rock festivals, always well appreciated by both regulars and newcomers.

Praised by Ben Harper and many other artists, Bo Weavil is considered as one of the best artists of the international blues scene and recognized as an essential European reference. Bo Weavil’s music is groovy, colored, terribly bewitching and utterly irresistible!

They started off as the roughest and dirtiest European blues band, ever. We all enjoyed their original treatment of the early Sun sound. Today, the band has arrived in the late '50s and the more polished sound of the Chess studios. Not bad at all. On the other hand there are hundreds of blues bands playing Chess-style blues.
