The Alexis P Suter Band is a powerfully compelling six-piece ensemble that artfully blends the lines between blues, soul and rock music. The band burst on to the music scene with regular performances at Levon Helm's legendary Midnight Rambles in Woodstock, NY and continues to captivate every audience they meet more than twenty years later.

Three-time Blues Music Award (BMA) nominee, vocalist Alexis P. Suter, is an American blues and soul blues singer-songwriter. Raised in Brooklyn, NY by a musically gifted family, Suter was infused with the passion and belief that music is to be an emotional and spiritual experience. Owner of a booming voice that is equally poignant roaring with pained passion, exploding with energy and purring with soothing soulfulness, her powerful presence radiates energy and love.

The core band, fellow Brooklyn natives Ray Grappone (drums), Jimmy Bennett (guitar), Daniel Weiss (keyboard), Peter Bennett (bass) and Vicki Bell, (producer, vocals and percussion) have been making music together for almost three decades. Grappone and Bell own and operate the Hipbone Records label, where they first met and worked with Suter in the 1990's when she was performing house music, funk and R&B and signed to Epic/Sony Records Japan. Captivated by her unique and incredible talent, they invited her to record vocals on a Hipbone project, which was the start of a life-long collaboration.

The Alexis P Suter Band is not just another musical act, but an energetic and emotional experience to which fans of all ages flock time after time. Their touring schedule spans venues and festivals on both US Coasts to parts of Europe including France and The Netherlands. /Blues Music Magazine

There’s nothing subtle about Alexis P. Suter. On Be Love, she uses her powerful voice to own every track. She’s backed by a talented band, but Suter’s vocal talents are impossible to ignore.

Suter has a strong, deep voice. It resonates. You almost feel it in your chest before you hear it in your ears. She’s also not afraid to use that vocal strength. There’s a lot going on behind her instrumentally, but she always manages to stand out without having to resort to devious front-person tricks, like lowering the band in the mix. Nope, Suter seemingly invites her band to try and bring her down and then successfully fights everyone off.

As Alexis P. Suter Ministers of Sound take the stage on “Live From Briggs Farm Blues Festival,” Suter, the powerhouse vocalist, says, “It’s great to have church on a day like today.” She’s not the first person to use the church metaphor when it comes to music, especially the gospel and blues she and her bandmates preach. But if we were to take her literally, two things would be true: 1. A lot more people would go to church. 2. There’d be a ton of churches with their roofs blown off from the joyful noise this force-of-nature singer and her band unleashes.

The group kicks it off with “Didn’t It Rain,” a traditional song that tells the familiar tale of Noah’s Ark. Drummer Dave Grappone’s tom-toms and Dave Keys’ piano set a swampy foundation for Suter, with some vocal tags from backing singer Vicki Bell, to do their thing. Continuing on with its self-proclaimed (and apt) “gos-blues,” AMOS slides into “Them Days,” penned by Suter and Bell. It’s a bright, mid-tempo song, not unlike some of the peppy and inspirational numbers favored by the legendary Mavis Staples, and when Suter repeats, “The days are over, over, over/ Them days are gone,” it’s cathartic and celebratory, not mournful.

While Suter’s sheer vocal strength is a given to anyone that has followed her career, it’s songs like “Faith, Grace, Love, Forgiveness,” written and sung by Keyes, that show the dynamic breadth of AMOS. His feathery piano, along with Chris Bergson’s guitar, blend effortlessly behind the straightforward vocal. It’s the softer side of AMOS.

By contrast, “Love,” another Suter/Bell tune, is smooth and funky, and Leon Russell’s “A Song For You” is a slow-burning, gut-wrenching duet with guest vocalist Victor Wainwright.

“Piece Of Clay,” made famous by Marvin Gaye, is another change of pace, lyrically at least, with Suter singing the song as if she wrote — and lived — the words herself, pleading with parents to let their children be their own person rather than try to mold them into an image of themselves.

Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come” is welcome on any setlist, as it is here, while the traditional “When I Rose This Morning” has Suter delivering on that church promise again, enthusing over jumping piano and drums that conjure up images of celebrants swaying in their pews on a sweltering day.

Suter and company close out their set, recorded at the long-standing festival in Nescopeck, Pennsylvania, with The Beatles’ “Let It Be,” which might seem like an odd choice for a gospel/blues act, but it fits like a glove. A different tempo from the original gives the arrangement a different air and amped-up sense of yearning, and yes, gospel-drenched bluesiness. ~by Michael Lello

APSB are a powerful and unique 5 piece ensemble who artfully blend the lines between Blues, Soul and Rock music. Alexis' voice ranges from a pained passion to explosive and soul bearing. Her band is also on fire manned by the power trio of Bennett, Bennett and Grappone. Jimmy Bennett is a guitar phenomenon with a fierce and ferocious tone. Drummer Ray Grappone and Peter Bennett on bass lay down the groove like a heavy duty Rhythm and Blues machine. Along with the trio is the very talented backing vocalist Vicki Bell.

When the great Bluesman B.B. King first heard Alexis sing, he was visibly impressed and said so after her opening set for him at BB Kings in NYC. Shaking his head in wonder in his characteristic way, he remarked….
“It’s a rare thing to share the stage with great talent like that young lady.”

Alexis and the band have earned similar honors from other well-known musicians and performers, including Dan Aykroyd and LevonHelm of The Band.
Suter and her band have been blazing trails and taking their music to festivals and venues both nationally and internationally.

Their upcoming new recording "All For Loving You" takes modern blues in new directions, pushing the form just a bit beyond its normal boundaries with Suter's powerful, deep soulful voice charging forward.
The new album is produced by Ben Elliott and APSB. Elliott is a master of his craft and has produced albums for blues legends Hubert Sumlin and JamesCotton, and has recorded rock and roll greats Eric Clapton and Keith Richards to name just a few.

The band burst on to the music scene as regular performers in the late nineties at Levon Helm’s legendary Midnight Rambles in Woodstock, NY. Levon was captured by what he called Alexis’ wonderful spirit and had the band open for him nearly 100 times.

Alexis P. Suter is a big woman with a big and surprising voice. She possesses a powerful bass/baritone voice that could easily be taken for a man's, and sometimes is. She wields that remarkable voice to produce amazing blues and soul music on her third album, Love the Way You Roll (which hit stores August 12).

Suter's roots are in gospel and she also performs as Alexis P. Suter and the Ministers of Sound in that genre. Two of the members of the gospel band are also members of the Alexis P. Suter band, background vocalist Vicki Bell and drummer Ray Grappone. The other members of the band are guitarist Jimmy Bennett, who also wrote some of the songs, and bassist Peter Bennett. John Ginty guests on keyboards and Hammond B3 organ.
