Ryan Lee Crosby is the real deal, tracing a Bentonia lineage from Skip James to Henry Owens to Jimmy "Duck" Holmes but very much his own modern thing. All but one song on Winter Hill Blues is an original but they sound timeless after a few listens. Highly recommended. Favorite track: Slow Down. This album has been nearly ten years in the making, with material that was written and refined on stages across Europe, before I began traveling to Mississippi to learn more about the Bentonia style of blues with Jimmy "Duck" Holmes. The music was recorded in Memphis by Bruce Watson (Fat Possum/Big Legal Mess/Bible & Tire Records) with a band that includes drummer George Sluppick (Albert King, Chris Robinson Brotherhood), Mark Edgar Stuart (Alvin Youngblood Heart) and my long time collaborator and friend Grant Smith.
