As a follow up to his hugely successful Got Me Electric, delta bluesman Dave Arcari delivers his latest offering, Devil’s Left Hand. Combining his now trademark fusion of traditional pre-war delta blues based riffs and a voice that feels at home down on the bayou, Arcari pleases both fans and newcomers with this latest album, his sixth in total.
With the impressive and wonderfully accurate tag of “Scotland’s answer to Seasick Steve” hanging over his head, a lesser musician would be swallowed up by such a hallowed compliment.
Dave Arcari, however, is not a lesser musician. Rather than shy away from this pseudo sycophantic compliment, Arcari instead relishes in the spotlight and the accolades that follow a statement like that around.
In this latest collection of material, Arcari once again demonstrates the vast wealth of musical talent and knowledge from which he regular draws upon. With a unique ability to combine the sweet, soothing sound of the American Deep South with the more folk and vague rock elements of traditional Scottish music, Devil’s Left Hand once again aptly demonstrates the Scots guitarists best assets and love of what he does. ~Jonathan Whitelaw

Dave Arcari is one of those guys that is often out on the road touring, gigging and travelling around his native UK, Scottish homeland, much of Europe and more recently the USA. Known for his hard, driving and percussive style, Arcari favours steel-resonator guitars and banjos for his, at times pretty unique, take on blues and roots music, with a fine eye for Scottish traditional folk music which he attacks with absolute confidence and thundering acerbity.

In many ways it’s hard not to think of Arcari as a bit of a ‘wild man’, a blues rebel with a purpose and power that spills out with every song he works. Most of the twentysix tracks on this live release are self-penned and all feature his distinctive blues take and gripping, grit and whiskey-fuelled vocals. I’ve been a fan of this guy’s music for some years now and have caught his live performance where he really does come into his own clearly enjoying the performance and his audience participation.

With ‘Live at The Memorial Hall’, an album recorded in a live venue close to his West of Scotland home, he has at last delivered an album that truly captures the essence of his vital, hi-energy live shows. Many songs have a distinct autobiographical theme while yet others simply rip along with a rocky feel or a country-music, Hank Williams sort of echo.. All have a wonderful raw-edge that in many ways is a central, core element to Arcari’s own blues approach and purpose. Already particularly popular throughout Scandinavia, with ‘Live at Memorial Hall,’ Arcari has now produced a release that serves as a marvellous introduction to both the man and his music. An album to enjoy, best played loud with a glass, or better still a bottle, of single malt close to hand.

Slide guitarist & songwriter Dave Arcari’s alt.blues sounds owe as much to trash country, punk and rockabilly as they do pre-war Delta blues and have been showcased via six internationally-acclaimed solo CD releases. Nobody’s Fool was recorded in Glasgow, Scotland and Helsinki, Finland. The new album features collaborations with Finnish musicians Juuso Haapasalo (bass) and Honey Aaltonen (drums) and Scottish fiddle player Jamie Wilson. As well as Arcari’s trademark National slide guitar playing and original material, Nobody’s Fool presents another side of Arcari with ‘normal’ guitar and some material from key traditional, geographic and musical influences.

Dave's album "Got Me Electric" is hitting blues and roots radio charts worldwide and fantastic reviews are coming in thick and fast. Scottish bluesman Dave Arcari has been pumping out rough-hewn nuggets of punky blues for years, and while this fifth album maintains that momentum, it shows much more. Slapping and picking away on his guitar, growl of a voice ever present, the songs are undeniably heartfelt.

This generous 13 song CD features a mix of self-penned material with some covers and gives a snapshot of his energetic live show. Mr. Arcari is one of the blues hardest working road-warriors and deserves any goodwill that comes his way.

Dave Arcari & The Hellsinki Hellraisers - Whisky In My Blood

Scottish ‘rabble-rouser’ and all-round good guy Dave Arcari has teamed his ‘take no prisoners’ guitar and vocals with two Finnish musicians on this latest release, “Whisky In My Blood”, on the Finnish record lace, Blue North. He is accompanied on all tracks, bar one, by The Hellsinki Hellraisers – namely Juuso Haapasalo (upright & electric bass) and Honey Aaltonen (snare drum, cymbal, and rub-board).As ever Dave’s roaring, growling vocals and his flailing National steel guitar are to the fore on the 11 orginals and three covers, but two standout tracks – “Still Friends” and “Third Time Lucky” see a switch to banjo. “Tell Me” has definite rockabilly flavours, and another gem is the driving blues, “Get Outta My Way”.

The Finnish musicians contribute fully to the glorious sound throughout the album, complementing Dave Arcari’s input. The three cover versions present are a brace of Robert Johnson classics, “Walkin’ Blues” and “Preachin’ Blues” – both given a ‘good kicking’ here, as is the oft-recorded “Jitterbug Swing”, from the pen of Bukka White, with the aforementioned ‘swing’ of the title firmly in place!

The raucous title cut “Whisky In My Blood”, is an ode to the ‘fire water’ itself; “Wherever I Go” is another highlight and swaggers along in its own sweet way! The whole collection was recorded live in the studio in Helsinki, and gives the album a great feel . . . with the mixing done in Arcari’s native Glasgow, and mastered in Chicago. It’s easy to see why Dave Arcari is never off the road, with his never less than 100% commitment and energy to the music and performances he’s certainly the ‘real deal’ . . . . catch him on the road near you somewhere soon I’m sure! ~Graham Rhodes
