Keep On Dreamin’ is the new record of Egidio Juke Ingala & The Jacknives, their second album published by the prestigious label Rhythm Bomb Records, and features the extraordinary participation of guitarist Alex Schultz. The songs on this album are like many stories born from the fruit of these last years of concerts and tours that have taken the band all over Europe. It’s probably the album that best represents them, all the songs are among the most intimate they have ever written and recorded, an album with a fresh, spontaneous sound, linked to that style and mixed groove of blues, R&B, soul and rock n' roll, which has always characterized them.

Personnel: Egidio Juke Ingala (vocals, harmonica); Marco Gisfredi (guitar); Max Pitardi (bass); Enrico Soverini (drums). Special guest: Alex Schultz (guitar).

Dirty Hands was formed in 1990 when friends Andy "Dirty Hand" Carrieri (guitar) and Cesare "Kid" Ferioli (drums) joined forces after touring with their earlier band Jack Daniel’s Lovers. After bassist Max "Pitta" Pitardi have joined the group, they toured all over Italy and continued on to the US in 1992 where they played in well-known blues clubs on a 90 day tour that took them from coast to coast. Once back in Italy, they kept busy producing original material and the band's line-up was completed with the arrival of Milanese harp player Egidio "Juke" Ingala who previously had played with Omar & The Magic Roosters.

The band's debut CD "Dirty Hands" was completed in 1992 and received enthustiastic reviews in blues and rock press both locally and internationally, putting the bands name on the headlines. In 1993 Dirty Hands released their second recording entitled "XXX Hot Chili" on the Swiss label Boots Records, marking an impressive step forward in an explosive combination of blues, swing and down and dirty rock and roll. Their next album, "Four Cool Cats", was released in 1995 and sold well all over the EU.

In 1997 The Dirty Hands made a change at the height of their career. After 800 concerts and 3 albums, and after having performed as one of the most respected Italian blues bands, they decided to call it quits. Max Pitta moved on and created Jr. Pitta and Junglebeat; Cesare Ferioli would become a soloist and a DJ/Producer known as Big Mojo; Andy Carrieri formed a trio of the same name and Egidio Ingala continued with the Egidio "Juke" Ingala Band.

Another masterpiece from Egidio "Juke" Ingala ! Along with his Californian" friend, the highly gifted guitar virtuoso Alex Schultz, Egidio is demonstrating his skills, and superb taste. Rightly, this team's playing the first league of European jump and blues bands. This album features a well-balanced mix of originals and covers. Stylewise, Juke even went a step back in history. Covers by Jimmy Liggins or Tiny Grimes, and the addition of horns on four cuts are nice examples of 1940s and '50s style r&b. But you'll also hear a lot of harmonica, and guitar. Superb!

Egidio "Juke" Ingala has a very distinctive style on harp and vocals. His harmonica sound has been described as something in between Little Walter and George Harmonica Smith, with a touch of Walter Horton. Juke is a natural-born entertainer with a strong sense of showmanship, something that too often lacks in contemporary blues performers. A subtle combination of tone, phrasing and attack combined with a strong sense of swing are his trademark. He's also excellent singer, he loves the stage and always manages to train his audience with a swinging retro jump blues, mix of West Coast and Chicago Blues. A veteran performer with a few albums under his belt, he has been on the scene since the early 90's, he has been working/touring with American "heavy weights" such as Alex Schultz, Lynwood Slim, Anthony Paule, Johnny Nitro, Gary Primich and many more.

In every city, town and hamlet in the world, there are a few people who are just a little different. From a little fishing village in southern Brazil to a factory town in the Ukraine there is someone, maybe even three or four like-minded individuals, who speak an esoteric, universal language. From Stockholm to Los Angeles, from Chicago to Milan and Bologna here are people, not many mind you, who communicate in this unwritten dialect. It is the language of the blues. Just for sake of clarification, I’m not talking about “blues-rock” that ugly, coarse, rather juvenile, bastardized way of communicating, but…real blues. In northern Italy, there are four gentlemen who speak this language and have for many years. They are known as Egidio “Juke” Ingala and the Jacknives. The four individuals who make up this band have naturally gravitated to one another. Their love for the blues and mutual commitment to presenting this music to the public the right way is so deeply ensconced in their collective consciousness that any deviation from the truth that lies in the heart of this music would be tantamount to blasphemy.

They are of course Egidio, as well as guitarist Marco Gisfredi, bassist Max Pitardi and the great Enrico “Henry” Soverini on drums. This ensemble has been called the Italian Aces. I don’t think that is really much of a stretch as these guys are cut from that same bolt of cloth. Think about that as you listen to this album. How many guitar players really understand how to play behind a harmonica for instance like Louis Meyers or Marco? How many drummers understand the various blues shuffles that Fred Below incorporated into the music of Junior Wells and Muddy Waters for instance? Enrico does and he brings that to the bandstand and the recording studio every time.

Then we have the album’s producer, Little Victor – who also guests on a few numbers. He is a vagabond, globetrotting raconteur roaming the countryside in search of that “sound.” An accomplished and highly acclaimed traditional blues musician his own right, he is always putting his skills to work getting like-minded individuals into the recording studio. He even found the great Carl “Sonny” Leyland, who is a British ex-pat living in the middle of nowhere in the California hinterland at an undisclosed location. Victor and Carl’s resumes and recording credits are as long as my arm. Suffice it to say their inclusion here is just perfect.

As the late, great Lynwood Slim used to say, “Blues music is the universal language.” Thanks to Egidio “Juke” Ingala & the Jacknives I get to hear it spoken articulately.– David Mac BLUES JUNCTION Productions

Fresh from Italy's popular Dirty Hands band, Egidio Ingala makes his solo debut on Italy's new "Popolo del Blues" label with this great CD, a rocking set of juke-joint, bar-brawlin' dance classics. Juke is a helluva harpster and his grooves swing like mad: in step with the raging swing thing and, oddly enough, right in line with the best of the baddest Chicago bar-band blues. Alex Schultz plays guitar on all tunes!
