When it comes to one-man bands, guitarist and singer extraordinaire Steve Hill has no limits. Anything goes. He is the true exponent of a one-man band. Steve performs standing up while singing and playing guitar, his feet playing bass drum, snare drum, hi-hats and with a drum stick fused to the head of his trusty guitar, any other percussion within reach. He’s an ambitious and raucous force to be reckoned with on the Canadian and international blues-rock scene. Now, he’s ready to break out internationally.

The One-Man Blues Rock Band features originals that are outright rockers (Damned, Dangerous, Rhythm All Over, The Ballad of Jonny Wabo, Still Got It Bad to more acoustic-based melodic tracks (Emily) and three re-imagined and rearranged covers (Voodoo Child). The live album shows an artist at the top of his game. It comes to no surprise why the Montreal Gazette has referred to Steve Hill as, “the meanest guitar player in Canada.”

The Steve Hill Trio is based in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area. Hill (aka Steve Territo) has been playing, singing, performing, and writing original material in the DFW Metroplex since 1974 when he relocated from his birthplace in Chicago, Illinois. While in Chicago, Hill played in a series of bands from 1965 on. In the early 70's he decided that blues and blues and soul related rock were the only styles of music he was interested in performing. His original songs are a combination of the above styles delivered with a high energy, garage band spirit, and sometimes with a tongue in cheek sense of humor.

Steve Hill is a guitar virtuoso and one of the top stars on the Canadian blues scene. What makes him unique is his ability to simultaneously sing and play guitar, bass and drums. He is an exceptionally skilled, raw and gritty blues incarnation of the one-man band. “To me playing the guitar has always been around finding one's true voice. There’s a lot of guitar players that do stuff that I can’t play — but there’s not a lot of people who can make it sound like I do. At least that’s what I’m trying to do.”

"The Steve Hill Trio IS WORK-ing Twice as Hard on this enjoyable, six-song EP. It's blues and rock with a bit of humor about a perpetual human male condition: yearning for somebody to love, even if we don't know what love is.

In the slightly slinky title song, a man sees himself in the mirror and realizes he "done got old." In "Somebody Please, " and "Rocket Science," he's lonely in a bar and wants somebody to take him home. He falls for a woman---"the chemistry sure is there"---but doesn't care about the big guy she's with. In "Half Honeybee, Half Snake," well, the title makes it clear. In "You Think You Know Her (But You Don't)," he learns, "you may think she will, but then she won't." "Live and Let Live" is a bit different from the first five, as a sort of libertarian anthem: "I don't need nobody to do my thinkin' for me....I ain't hurtin' nobody except maybe me."

Hill does the vocals and plays guitar and harmonica. He's joined by David Strong on bass and Virgil Zanders on drums. For anyone who's unsure, this is not the other local musician Steve Hill, who I used to work with and who recently died, nor any other Steve Hill who is a musician. Following the success of his JUNO nominated Solo Recordings Volume 1, which also won album of the year at the International Blues Challenge in 2013, and JUNO Award winner Solo Recordings Volume 2, Steve Hill is set to release Solo Recordings Volume 3 (March 4, 2016). Solo Recordings Volume 3 features originals that are outright rockers (Damned, Dangerous, Rhythm All Over, Smoking Hot Machine, Can’t Take It With You, Walkin’ Grave) to more acoustic-based melodic tracks (Slowly Slipping Away, Troubled Times, Emily) and three reimagined and rearranged covers (Still A Fool & A Rollin Stone, Rollin & Tumblin / Stop Breaking Down, Going Down That Road Feeling Bad).
Solo Recordings Volume 3 shows an artist at the top of his game and proves why the Montreal Gazette called him “the meanest guitar player in Canada.”

“When I started the Solo Recordings projects four years ago, I had hopes that the songs and performances would resonate with my existing fan-base”, says Hill. “I am constantly trying to improve on the songs, both lyrically and technically, live and recorded, in order to keep the fans excited about my material and live shows. I feel that Solo Recordings Volume 3 is my best work yet and I am excited to present it”.

Steve Hill - 2 albums: Call It What You Will / Domino

Steve Hill got an early start as a professional guitar player at the age of 16. By the time he was 20 he was already doing more than 200 gigs a year, which lead to the success of his first album in 1997. The album was voted Best Canadian Debut Recording by Vancouver’s Real Blues magazine. Following a tour that took him across Canada, France and Belgium, he returned to the studio in 1999 to record ‘’Call It What You Will’’. On his second tour across Canada and Europe he shared the stage with Ray Charles, B.B. King, Jimmie Vaughan, Buddy Guy, Johnny Lang and many more. He won Electric act of the year at Toronto’s Maple Blues Awards and was nominated for a Juno award.

In 2001, he produced, played and co-wrote on Nanette Workman’s ‘’Blues and Roots’’ album. He completed a promotional tour for the album before joining Louisiana cajun legend Zachary Richard for yet another Canadian Tour. The next year, Hill released his third album ‘’Domino’’ announcing a departure from his earlier work. ‘’Domino’’ had a more contemporary sound showcasing Steve’s rapid evolution as a songwriter and a producer. A blend of rock, R&B, electronica, and blues, the album and the tour received great reviews.
