Pardo has been touring worldwide for the last 15 years, with his own project or playing as a sideman for american Blues artists like Michael Burks, Vasti Jackson, Kenny Wayne, Jimmy Burns, Bob Stroger just to mention a few.

Rolling Stone Magazine said " Pardo reminds us of Robert Cray, Clapton or John Mayer but with a new and disctintive approach"

In this album Pardo gets back to his Blues roots after flirting with spanish original "pop" tunes in his last record " 13 formas de limpiar una sartén" (2014)

The virtuous guitarrist found an exquisite balance between the search of fresh sounds and the Blues
Pardo is joined by american legends Kenny Blues Boss Wayne, Vasti Jackson, Bob Stroger and Doug James to make this record even better.

The CD was recorded mainly at Escuela de Blues de Madrid Studios and produced entirely by Jose Luis Pardo. The artist is also the principal of the Madrid Blues School since it´s been founded in 2011

In this new recording, 35 years old Pardo, shows his unique and personal approach to the guitar playing that mixes influences from Mississippi John Hurt to Al Greeny, from Jimmie Vaughan to James Brown and everything in between.

Duke Robillard - Passport To The Blues

Year: 2010
Bitrate: MP3@320K/s
Time: 64:23
Size: 148,1 MB
Styles: Electric blues
Scans: Full

1. Workin' Hard For My Uncle (4:05)
2. Hong Kong Suit (4:48)
3. Blues Train (5:20)
4. Girl Let Me Tell Ya (2:45)
5. Rhode Island Red Rooster (3:45)
6. Fatal Heart Attack (4:10)
7. Make It Rain (5:44)
8. When You're Old You're Cold (5:29)
9. Text Me (4:00)
10. Duke's Evening Blues (5:22)
11. The High Cost Of Lovin' (4:48)
12. Grey Sky Blues (8:38)
13. Bradford Boogie (5:24)

There has been no lack of Duke Robillard product on the market; the roots guitarist has recorded approximately ten albums since 2000. But he's been more of an interpreter than songwriter and there haven't been many original compositions on them. That makes this 2010 disc a welcome appearance for fans of the guitarist aching to hear fresh tunes from the Roomful of Blues founder. Perhaps touring as part of Tom Waits' band - this disc's only cover is a roaring version of Waits' "Make It Rain" - inspired him, but these songs combine a deep blues sensibility with a sharp band and a raw instrumental attack often lost when Robillard indulges his jazz and jump blues sides. Like Waits, he uses Howlin' Wolf as a model, especially with regard to his flinty vocals, and even titles one track "Rhode Island Red Rooster", an obvious homage to one of Wolf's most recognizable compositions.

Robillard won't win any awards for his singing but he's clearly inspired here and gets by on sheer vocal enthusiasm as he spins out this rollicking collection with gruff joy. A few jazzy numbers pepper the set, especially the playful "When You're Old You're Cold", but most of the disc is dedicated to tough, aggressive, swamp-inflected blues-infused tunes. He nicks another page from Waits' early years with the spoken "Duke's Evening Blues" that would have fit well on Waits' Nighthawks at the Diner and references Waits' Rain Dogs period on the Latin-flavored "Hong Kong Suit". Robillard dives deep into slow Chicago blues on the eight-minute guitar showcase of "Grey Sky" and revives "The High Cost of Loving", a track co-written by Doc Pomus and first heard on the guitarist's 1990's Turn It Around, giving it a new lease on life.

Current events are run through some choice Chuck Berry riffs on "Text Me" and on the pounding, grinding opener, "Working Hard for My Uncle", that relative named Sam. His tight backing quartet features longtime associate and original Roomful member Doug James on saxes, who adds gutsy blowing to these bluesy romps. A closing bonus jam on "Bradford Boogie" gives the listener a sense of how musically connected the bandmembers are as they feed off each other and just have fun. That camaraderie is ultimately what makes this such a successful entry into Robillard's bulging catalog. /Hal Horowitz, AllMusic

Sax Gordon - You Knock Me Out

Year: 2000
Bitrate: MP3@320K/s
Time: 52:26
Size: 120,6 MB
Styles: R&B, blues, jazz
Scans: Full

1. 90 MPH (3:21)
2. Mishnock Rock (3:48)
3. Lonely For You (4:13)
4. You Knock Me Out (2:46)
5. Speed Rack (2:31)
6. BY-YA (3:49)
7. Lorenzo Leaps In (6:24)
8. That Little Town Rocks (4:23)
9. Tino's Dream (4:58)
10. Big Mouth (2:56)
11. Bug Hunt (3:52)
12. Twenty Dollar Gig (3:19)
13. Crawling Home (6:01)

When Charlie Parker and other beboppers were demonstrating how complex and intellectual saxophone playing could be, the honkers favored a much more accessible, groove-oriented approach. Gordon "Sax Gordon" Beadle's funky, grits-and-gravy style of tenor sax playing is right out of the honker school, and his very extroverted You Knock Me Out is a throwback to the days when Willis Jackson, Big Jay McNeely, Arnett Cobb, Doc Sausage, and others weren't afraid to play the you-know-what out of their horns.

Indeed, hard-blowing instrumentals like "Crawling Home", "Lorenzo Leaps In", and "Speed Rack" (all of them Gordon originals) sound like they could have been written in the late 1940s or early 1950s. Red Tyler's "Lonely for You", with its dusky, evocative, "Harlem Nocturne"-ish mood, conjures up thoughts of an era of burlesque shows, Mike Hammer novels, and film-noir thrillers starring Veronica Lake and Alan Ladd. Though Gordon loves the honker era, the saxman/singer occasionally detours into 1960s soul. "90 MPH" (one of the tunes he sings on), for instance, and "BY-YA" wouldn't have been out of place on a Stax release in the 1960s; the latter, in fact, has a Booker T-ish appeal thanks to Tom West's organ playing. No, this jazz/R&B/blues effort isn't innovative, and yes, Gordon plays his share of clichés, but he plays them with a lot of heart and passion, making You Knock Me Out quite rewarding if you're a lover of the tenor saxophone's honker school. /Alex Henderson, AllMusic

Doug James - Blow Mr. Low (with Duke Robillard & Sugar Ray Norcia)

Year: 2001
Bitrate: MP3@320K/s
Time: 48:04
Size: 110,2 MB
Styles: Blues, swing, jump
Scans: Full

1. Extra Axle (4:10)
2. Blow Mr. Low (3:38)
3. I Want A Little Girl (4:37)
4. Bobbie's Boogie (3:58)
5. Son Of Mr. Big Horn (3:17)
6. Blues For Leo (5:53)
7. Dirty, Dirty People (4:17)
8. Dog Ate My Reed (4:45)
9. Cry Me A River (9:01)
10. You Better Hold Me (4:23)

This baritone sax player searches out that lowest down, deepest bottom-end of the music that can be found in any horn section, and then takes the listener on a tour of those depths. He does this not in the jazz idiom where it is more common, though his playing shows great influences of jazz, but with the blues. You can hear shades of Paul Williams and Bobby Smith in his playing (they jumped and boogied in the late '40s and early '50s). He's played with and anchored Roomful of Blues, Duke Robillard's band, and on many sessions for such as Big Joe Turner, Eddy Clearwater, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, to name but a few. He is well-respected as an arranger, producer, and engineer.

He has written four of the ten songs (and co-wrote one other with Duke Robillard), and this is the first CD in his name; he is in the front as the bandleader and co-producer. He grabbed a few of his friends to help him out, which they do with great effect. Duke Robillard provides guitar and the vocals on two of the cuts, including the title cut, which he wrote to honor Doug James and his nickname, Blow Mr. Low. Sugar Ray Norcia, former frontman for Roomful of Blues, takes the lead vocals on two numbers also. This is a solid and full effort from one of the finest horn players who is recording today. It jumps, shake, and has that deep-down soul that many only dream of achieving. /Bob Gottlieb, AllMusic

07. Groove Me (3:10)
08. I Got The Feeling (4:22)
09. Prison Of Love (4:37)
10. Soulful Strut (3:28)

Having collaborated live on innumerable occasions over the past decade, Ari "Doc o' Rock" (bass/producer), Doug James (vocals), and Billy Shaffer (drums) figured it was high time to commit to audio posterity. With typical light-hearted, high-energy approach, the trio lays the basis for 10 tunes - 3.5 original and 6.5 classic covers - showing off their eclectic taste and showcasing many of Chicago's finest jazz and rock musicians. The song selection criteria was "songs we really like," and the choice of musician collaborators required passionate and tasteful players, including a 4 piece horn section. Each tune leaves plenty of space for improvisation, just like their live performances.

It's like they say - when a band is "in the pocket", it means they are TIGHT!

When I formed this band I had one goal in mind: Make tight music with friends, for friends. We call what we do "American Hip Shakin' Music". It's high energy and funky and there's nothing we enjoy more than performing live. No doubt about it, we're out to have some serious fun.

We dedicated this debut effort to Joe DeFrancesco and Jackie Schur. Joe played lead guitar in the band and Jackie was the wife of our drummer Ron Schur. Both succumbed to cancer, both will forever remain in our hearts and minds.

As you listen to our music I hope it makes you shake, think and feel, and I hope you have as much fun listening to it as we had making it! Because life is precious friends! See you at our next dance!

Notes: In their early days, Roomful of Blues recorded some seminal LPs for the Muse label, which were bought by 32 Jazz, and two of them are available on this two-disc set. Blues Train with Big Joe Turner and Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson & Roomful of Blues are the recordings included, and they offer some of the very best, and certainly seminal, early-period work of the Rhode Island-based horn-fired blues/jazz band. Dr. John also helps out on the first recording, which features Turner's signature takes on "Crawdad Hole" and "I Want a Little Girl," while the sessions with alto saxophonist/vocalist Vinson serve up evergreens "He Was a Friend of Mine" and "Past Sixty Blues," among many others. This one is also out of print, but will surely come back. The music is too keen, vital, and precious to be off the market. Find it as best you can.
