Mel Bryant uses the gift of rock music to promote thoughtfulness, respect, justice and love throughout the human community. Combining poignant, bold lyricism with folk and blues guitar stylings, her songs seek to challenge apathy and shine a light on complex issues like anxiety, women’s rights, oppression, political partisanship and the pain of love and loss. Her music spans many years and many genres; she draws upon the classic blues and rock greats for guidance, and modern punk, alternative rock, and female pop artists for inspiration. She has performed her original music at the GroundUp music festival (the brainchild of Snarky Puppy’s label), the Okeechobee Music Festival (performing her own music and performing alongside members of Snarky Puppy, Vulfpeck and Michael McDonald) in addition to performing extensively in the South Florida, Nashville and New York City areas. She also orchestrated a national tour for her former band, Electric Church, and performed with them in various venues along the east coast. As a graduate of the University of Miami Frost School of Music songwriting program, she has extensive experience working in collegiate and professional studios in the recording booth and behind the console, producing her own music as well as the music of other artists. During the summer of 2017, Mel toured the Northeast US and Canada in support of her debut album, High Priestess. She currently resides in Nashville, TN and works at an independent recording studio and management company with her bandmates, Conor McCarthy and Brendan Bird.
