It has been 25 years since the first album of JT Lauritsen & The Buckshot Hunters was released and they celebrate that with the follow-up to Blue Eyed Soul Vol. 1, of course entitled Blue Eyed Soul Vol. 2.

The album has 11 tracks, mostly own penned songs, two were written in collaboration with Monika Nordli and with Mike Zito and one cover was recorded, a beautiful adaptation of Don Robey's You're Gonna Make Me Cry. The wonderful arrangements for the wind section were written by Børge-Are S. Halvorson. That was possible because the 5-piece band was expanded to 8 with saxophone, trumpet and trombone, and they will continue to do so in the future.

A must for fans of swinging, soulful blues.

J.T. Lauritsen - 2 albums: Make A Better World / Play By The Rules

Jan Tore Lauritsen born in Norway and began playing at the early age of 6 and pretty much immediately got interested in the Blues and related music after first hearing BB King, blues pianist Charles Brown and the legendary Ray Charles. JT had his first paying gig at the age of 14, which resulted in a steady flow of jobs for him on the organ - an instrument he stayed with for many years. J.T. was searching for his own style on the instrument when he had to admit that a B3 Hammond organ was too heavy to drag around from gig to gig - so he compromised by taking up the accordion.

Eventually, his blues harp began accompanying him wherever he went and became a new sound in J.T.'s music. Since 1989, both accordion and blues harp have been his trademark instruments. In 1991, he started Buckshot Blues Band with the now well known guitarist, Vidar Busk.

J.T. Lauritsen & The Buckshot Hunters - 2 albums: Squeezeboxing / Live

Over the years there has been a steady stream of evidence that Scandinavians know, and can play the blues. The latest example comes from Norway in the shape of Jan Tore (J.T.) Lauritsen & The Buckshot Hunters' "Make A Better World." Lauritsen has been playing for over quarter of a century, but is still only in his early 30's. Over time he has migrated from keyboards to accordion and harp, and this is reflected in the selection of material, which mostly combines styles from the Louisiana region (swamp blues, Zydeco, New Orleans funk). The blend of Louisiana musical styles works very well, and the musicianship is of the highest order. As with most bands from Scandinavia, the songs are all delivered in perfect English.

Lauritsen comes across as a blue-eyed-soul vocalist, with just enough gravel in his voice to give his delivery the requisite grit. He does have a hint of an accent but it's only apparent on occasion and never really distracting. Above all there's something in his voice and his phrasing that somehow conveys his sheer love of every song he sings - it's intangible but genuinely infectious.

In addition to his soulful vocals, Lauritsen pays mean harmonica, accordion, and B3, wielding each judiciously for maximum effect - lots of squeezebox add a rather atypical texture to much of the material while occasional flourishes of squalling harp help keep things firmly grounded in the blues.
